Tsk tsk..... not the numbers you were hoping for. We shall just have to wait to see the adjustments.

How can an increase of 114K lower unemployment to 7.8% when the increase of the working age population increased by 206K as reported by the household survey?

One answer I can fathom is that the required difference to achieve 7.8% is composed of the increase of people not in the labor force.

Additional New jobs added in july and august that weren't added in take it just over 200,000. It has been happening every month since the Bureau of Labor Statistics started using the current model, which started under Clinton, perhaps earlier.

There was news of the un-counted jobs some weeks ago but it didn`t draw much interest or have a lot of newsworthiness........much like the cons belly-aching about today`s jobs numbers

Gee you would think that everyone would be happy things are turning around, but NOOOOOO....it's only good when the USA fails under Obama according to some

Greetings,

I' don't understand this thought. Does anyone actually believe the Right wants the U.S.A. to "fail" under any circumstance? I, speaking for the Right and I can because I am Right, do not hate Obama, he is a brilliant professor and a sorta ok senator and the worst President ever, he lost the debate by a margin larger than any President in history. We are frankly scared he will do something we may never recover from.

Well wishes,
Arturas

Oh yes, I do think that. When the Leader of the party has vast sums of his resources employed in other lands and not benefitting the USA then yes. Republicans hope and pray we go down the tubes.

Greetings,

He has 74 percent in USA investments and 26 percent in foreign investments; So, most at home and much less overseas. He also pays taxes to the USA for those foreign investments. So this is bad?

Well wishes
Arturas

P.s. I bet you are starting to feel like Obama on Wednesday night.

Oh not at all. Why do you think Obama was feeling bad Wed night? He got plenty of pussy(anniversary)......Up in the polls. Let Romney show himself as a lying fool.....He had a great night

As to Romney, yes, it is a very bad thing. He wants to be President. Should invest all his monies in making sure we are moving Forward. Not trying to screw the system for his own gain....Which is really against his religious beliefs...

I read a piece yesterday titled "Obama`s next big hurdle,Friday`s Jobs Report".

I thought,if it`s a bad one....Mitten`s and friends would jump on it and parade around and such.

And if it was a positive report....the lunatic fringe would call it a lie, bullshit etc....

The question is, are these numbers actually good?

So putting it all together, what does this mean for the true state of the US economy? Recall back in September one of our Charts of the Day was the number of Unemployed and Underemployed for the month of August, which was 25.8 million. Readers may be surprised to learn that when putting it all together, in September this number increased to 26.2 million.

So what we have is a stunning increase in the underemployed. Part time work is the cause. Hardly a reason for exuberance. It underscores one sentence from the article.

The number of people with part-time jobs who wanted full-time work rose 7.5 percent to 8.6 million.

This is hardly indicative of a healthy economy. But hey, unemployment dropped to 7.8%.

BBBBBBLog Warning
The BLS produces reliqable data within a span of three months. I don't think most people who use this agency's numbers for political fodder understand how closely these numbers are watched, or even what they are for.
They are watched from every possible angle.
But you know what's the FUNNIEST THING OF ALL? These numbers become terribly reliable when they reflect badly on the President. Specious  crap,,, nothing more.

Yeah not surprising facts are funny to you .... but only when they don't support whay _you_ want bto claim as an outcome.
The fact is... and very reliably since EVEN THE SUBSEQUENT CORRECTIONS ARE TRENDING UPWARD... that unemployment is starting to turn a corner. And it just upsets you because you needed a slam dunk to get Romney past his gaffs.

One problem there sport. You're applying a metric to me that does not exist. I'm not a fan of Romney. I do not support Romney. But please continue to believe the bullshit your being shoveled.

Axlerod got himself a pair of Mitt's magic underpants and went to the BLS and ordered them to get the unemployment number below 8% before the election.

Low and behold, somehow the magic in the underpants must have worked because 114K seasonal part time sales jobs was sufficient enough to drop the fake to begin with unemployment figure by five whole points.

And the Obama supporters eat it up, and continue to act like mushrooms.

quote:

Our Summary of U.S. Real Unemployment [attachment 1] makes these three adjustments. It also identifies average weeks unemployed, job openings, and the all-important "Jobs Gap" that needs to be filled in order to be at full employment in real terms. With the three adjustments made, in March:

· The number of real unemployed workers in all four categories - official BLS, part-time-of-necessity, marginally attached, and discouraged - decreased by 193,000 workers to 28.2 million, which remains more than twice BLS's official figure of 13.5 million. Significant changes in real employment included: private service-providing sector employment increasing by 199,000 jobs; manufacturing increasing by only 17,000 jobs; construction employment flat after increasing by 37,000 jobs in February; and government employment, mostly local, again declining, this month by 14,000 jobs.
· The real unemployment rate is 17.7%, compared to last month's real unemployment rate of 17.8% and to BLS's dramatically lower 'official' rate of 8.8%.

· The number of real unemployed workers has increased by 11.5 million since the start of the Recession, and just since December 2008 by 3.7 million. The latter figure and the Jobs Gap figure that follows are of significant political import, since the economy needs to add at least 150,000 new private sector jobs each month simply to keep up with population growth.

· The Jobs Gap, in real terms, is 20.2 million.

A source ALL of you should accept, even the most progressive of you all

But even more mysterious is the divergence in the two surveys done by the Labor Department.

The Household Survey showed a gain of 873,000 people employed in September - resulting in the surprise drop in the unemployment rate - while the Establishment Survey only showed a rise of 114,000.

Hmmm.

Drink your Kool-Aid. It's good for you.

Except it is not mysterious, hell it is not even close to head scratching.

The establishment survey is non ag payrolls
The household is ag and self-employed.

Isn't it amazing that most of the same folks who were gleefully crowing like a bunch of carrion birds when the numbers were high are now calling bullshit as they drop?
