For the first time in about seven years, I am allowing myself to be cautiously optimistic. It is starting to look like the JAY! EEE! TEE! ESS! JETS!!! JETS!!! JETS!!! at least want people to have the impression that they are trying to change the losing nature of their team.

They re-signed Harrison and Dekker. They picked up Brandon Marshall and now, Revis is back in the fold.

If they could just find someone to throw the ball to the up-graded receiving corps (Fitzpatrick ain't the one), this could be a 10 win season.

The Eagles just traded their entire team and got all new players. This was a 10-6 team last year. Gutting the team to this extent was quite literally an unprecedented event. We might be OK... or we could be licking the boots of every other NFL team.

So, as I posted a little over a week ago; my

JAY! EEE! TEE! ESS! JETS!!! JETS!!! JETS!!!

are starting to look like they're serious about playing ball, this year.

I'm wondering if anyone has the intestinal fortitude to make things a little interesting. No, I'm not talking about gambling ... for money, anyway. I'm trying to come up with a "forfeit" that would work, here. Something like the loser has to honor the winner's team, in some way.

I used to run a football "pool" that was strictly for bragging rights amongst my friends and that was actually, pretty cool. I send out Excel spread sheets with the games, point spreads, and then, results, every week. I would be willing to do that, again, if there's any interest.

I will go out on a limb, right now (they still haven't signed a decent quarterback but they do have one with pine splinters in his ass and I still can't figure out why) and say: MY over/under for the

JAY! EEE! TEE! ESS! JETS!!! JETS!!! JETS!!!

is 9 games.

Anyone care to take me up on my offer?

I would but frankly I never understood the point spread thing. I can tell you that my prediction for the Eagles is that they will take the field this coming season. Outside of that, I abstain from any prognostication.

ETA: You don't understand or you don't agree with point spreads? If it's a matter of understanding, it's easily explainable. It's a "handicap" given to the team that most would see as the "winner, on paper".

It's similar to bowling. If you are 220 average bowler and I'm a 180 average, I would be "given" 40 points, just for writing my name on the score sheet.

Similarly, if the bookies decide that your Eagles could beat my team by 9 points, on a particular day (accounting for injuries, suspensions, etc.), they would set the "spread" at 9 points. That means that your team has to beat my team by ten points in order for you to win your bet.

A 9 point differential (advantage to your team) would mean a tie or a "push" and they won't pay on that game, either (the odds are always with the house).

Hmmm why would the Eagles trade a pro bowl quarterback for a quarterback with a bad leg that cannot stay healthy and questionable ability to read defenses on the fly?

lol...I thought maybe you knew... As a man and a leader Bradford is great... all his team members liked and respected him.... In my opinion he just can not think fast enough for the pro game... he is not mobile and cannot find his second receiver let alone anyone else.

So if you have any line problems at all it will be a disaster even if he stays healthy.. But with a good line and receivers that can get separation he is very accurate. ... Good luck.

The school of thought here in Philly is that Chip Kelly is positioning himself to move up to get Oregon QB Marcus Mariota. Apparently, Kelly was offered a 1st round pick for Bradford, this report was confirmed from what I understand.

Foles here was a big question mark for a lot of reasons. Full disclosure... I like the kid. The knocks against him however were pretty glaring, not mobile, throwing off the wrong foot consistently, holds the ball too long, and so on. I believe as do others that Kelly's offense is not suited for Foles and his ability... yeah I know about 2013 and the fact that he made everyone sit up and pay attention but as good as he was that season, he stunk up the joint last season before injury. So, the biggest question was: Which Nick Foles was the real one, the 2013 one or 2014? My belief is that he falls somewhere between them.

Trading away McCoy, Foles, and letting Macklin walk out the door actually did make some sense overall, albeit I still am highly skeptical of whether or not it was the smart move or not. It cleared a good deal of cap space, which also lends a bit of credence to Kelly's desire to get Mariota. Kelly was just put in charge of player personnel, before it was Howie Roseman at the helm, but Kelly got the job and is making this his team... and he is either going to sink or swim with it.

I am not on board fully with Kelly as a coach because I think he has made some very questionable moves during games, and a few more off the field. How he is going to be as a GM is anyone's guess. The bottom line, and the way it stands now is that if Kelly and his system demands a QB like Mariota, then I believe he is doing what he can to go get his guy. I support him in this effort while I am still highly critical of Kelly overall, if his system needs Mariota, then let him get his QB... but if this guy doesn't fart rainbows and Lombardi trophies rain from the skies, then we are stuck with a "system" QB while Kelly can return to a $10 million dollar college coaching position. Philly isn't going to be very patient if we don't see results right away after Kelly gutted a 10-6 team that the fans saw as simply needing a few tweaks to get over the hump.

That said, the climate here in Philly is a combination of stunned and cautious. There are some knuckleheads that are fully on board with Kelly because he is the second coming of football Jesus, but they are few and far between. The consensus of the majority of the fans is a "wait and see" attitude. Either way, whatever happens, this is not going to be a dull offseason.

Yeah, it is the mechanics of that whole thing that doesn't make sense to me. The over/under cover/push and all the lingo is fairly confusing to me. It makes sense the way you explain it, but I still think I will abstain from a pick pool as it were. I used to follow each and every team and could damn near quote you every roster of all the teams, but free agency and life changed that for me. Now it is a lot of effort for me to just to keep up on game scores, let alone figure out who is going to win or lose games based on all those factors.

If I was inclined to do so, I would be the first to sign up.

I always understood the point spread a little differently....The book needs 50% of folks to bet for team a ,the other 50 obviously for team b
The book lives,or if you prefer makes his money,on the vig.
In other words the book doesn't care who wins,he wins either way....so the line was created to give the betting public a reasonable justification for betting the inferior team...or not betting the superior team..

In other words the line is not a measurement of relative strength as much as a reflection of betting trends.For instance Dallas,or Pittsburgh,two teams with large national followings and fans willing to bet money to "back" their team will have lines on their games that reflect that fact as opposed to let's say the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Certainly the Bucs have their fans,but not in numbers that will skew the line.
Dallas will always have a slightly skewed line that reflects not only the number of fans but the amount of money willing to be bet on this team by their fans

So strictly speaking the line is so much a "handicap" system ala golf lets say ,where your handicap is a indicator of your game and nothing more.
It's important to remember who came up with the line....Bookmakers(probably Lansky himself...lol) they looked at football betting,they looked at the fervor fans had and just needed a system where they could give an appearance of a level playing field to a game played by teams of vastly different talent levels.

Yea we heard that too... now does that really may sense to you? Bradford and Foles have similar statistics with Foles a little bit better. Foles salary for next year is around 1.5 million where Bradford's is 13 million. Now if a team was interested in trading a draft position for a quarterback why not trade the better prospect instead of going through all this? Otherwise Foles could have been traded for the draft pick with more upside than Bradford.

Anyway ...I know a few quarterbacks step right into NFL systems and work quite well but this is the exception rather than the rule... To me , what do i know, but it seems foolish to draft Mariota and expect him to step in and run a pro offense.... I can't believe this is his plan.
