Status: offline 		So, I have a stupid question to ask.  I am an idiot when to comes to food and physiological reactions.  I have gotten in the habit of eating a piece (or four :-) ) of dark chocolate with caramel or with vanilla bean every day.  But, the past few weeks, I have had a headache every day in the afternoon.  I never get bad headaches...so I am wondering if this is a reaction to the caffeine in the chocolate, or the sugar.

Any ideas?

Chocolate and caffeine are both considered by many to be triggers with migraines. So are environmental situations, such as stress, changes in the weather, and chemical changes that the human body goes through roughly once every seven or so years (more or less).

The only way to tell if chocolate and/or caffeine is a culprit is by going through an elimination diet (which I'm still on one). No chocolate or caffeine containing products for at least six weeks (preferably eight to ten), then introduce only one of the eliminated items every three weeks. If you get your headaches after the introduction of an item, don't ingest any more for two weeks, then move on to the next item.

It takes a hell of a long time to work through everything, but that's about the only way you can tell for sure if chocolate and/or caffeine is a trigger for your headaches.
