ORIGINAL: GreedyTop I admit: question for the Army/former Army types. I just saw a pic, on the CM side, of a guy wearing an Airborne uniform - and sporting a goatee and mustache. It wasn't full color (but not quite sepia). It is my understanding that -while in uniform - military personnel are expected to be clean shaven. So, is this dude visually mis-representing himself? When my husband was in the Navy from 1990 until his death in 1994, the rule was you must be clean shaven but you could have a mustache as long as it was trimmed neatly and hair could be no longer than a certain length which I don't remember anymore. My husband just always got a buzz cut. And if you were on vacation or time off for whatever you could not wear the uniform if the physical requirements were not in place. I remember one guy back then who did that. He was on a two week vacation and he put his uniform on because he had to go the base form some paperwork or something. He got in trouble for it and ended up with extra duty on the ship when he returned. In all actuality you were not to wear a uniform while off duty unless you were going on the base during that time. Maybe they have relaxed the rules since then. I'm not really sure. I am a US Marine...not active duty anymore, BUT we were not allowed to wear our cammies off duty except for traveling to and from work (or on base). Other uniforms (Alphas, Charlies, dress uniforms etc...) were okay. I think other branches have different rules though.
