Greetings

i have quite a bit of weight to lose. It's not because my Master necessarily wants me to, but because i know i need to for health reasons. i find my hips knees and ankles are aching and with the least bit of strenuous activity (or even an acre walk to the back part of my family's property where we grow our blackberries) i'm winded. i'm tired of feeling like this, so i'm going to lose weight.

i'm about 265-270 and wear a US size 24 pant now. i want to be back where i was in high school, which was about 160-170 and a size 16 pant.

How do i plan to achieve this? *sigh*    any way i can.

Seriously, though. i have already cut out all candies, cakes, and stuff like that because they just don't seem very appealing to me anymore. i have not yet cut out my beloved Dr. Pepper. i know i have to and will be doing so immediately because it's loaded with all that extra sugar i don't need. Over the past week i've been taking walks to the blackberry patch and back (which, as i said, is about an acre one way, so total of 2-acre walks so far). i don't want to overstress my body at the very beginning. If i do, as i have done in the past, i end up hurting and not wanting to continue. So, i'll begin my exercise routine by taking a walk to the blackberries at least 4 times a week, if not every day, then extend it to longer and longer walks.

i want to lose enough to be down one to two pant sizes by August. That is when i go to visit my Master and i want to be looking better than i do now for Him.

i will be posting updates and information on what seems to be working for me, and what isn't. One thing i know for certain that works for me is eating one pint of blackberries a day. Having a blackberry farm has its advantages *smiles*  Last year when i was doing nothing all day every day but sitting in the booth selling blackberries, i'd eat about a pint of them every day and by the end of the season i'd lost 10 pounds. And i did nothing but adding blackberries to my existing diet! :) Did i say i love blackberries? lol...

Any encouragement will be very much welcome and appreciated.

Hi,

This is exactly the same thing (Dr. Pepper and all) that someone close to me had! She decided to do the medifast diet. http://www.medifast1.com/webpromo/ She has been on it not cheating at all, for a month and has lost 30 pounds. My Doctor is on it as well, in considerably in better shape and cheats all the time and has only lost 4. It is an expensive plan, roughly averaging 12 dollars a day, which isnt to bad. And I honestly can't tell you if it will stay off once your done. But I know this diet is working for her!

Burn off some more calories by picking your own blackberries!
Im a berry freak too.
All summer long, when my Daddy comes home from work in the afternoon, he knows not to even look in the house...Im out in the field picking berries. Black raspberries are my favorite!

Im on my second day of week two of the South Beach diet. Ive lost 4.5 pounds. The first two weeks are pretty rough (no fruit) but after you've broken the cycle of sugar cravings, it's really just about eating healthy foods and watching the glycemic index of the foods you choose to eat. You might want to check it out.

Halfway through week one Id have given my left kidney for a pretzel, but Im feeling way better now and Im glad Ive stuck to the first phase, even though it pretty much sucks.

I work in a group home with adults with disabilities.  I have a client there that has to lose weight, she is 4'9 and weights about 195 lbs.  I too have to lose weight, so we are doing this together.  Her goal is 50 lbs by next May, mine is 100 lbs by next May.  We have both lost some lbs in the past 3 weeks.  I have lost 15 and she has lost 10.  This is what we have been doing.

First thing in the morning, we both enjoy 20 ozs of water with a shot of lemon juice in it..  Then we each choose a non-sweetened cereal (1/2 cup) and sweeten it with Splenda, 2 packets each  and add 1/2 cup  2% milk.  Rather than fruit juice, we will split a grapefruit or have a small orange or a medium apple each.

Snack -100 calorie pack of crackers, cookies or chips and 8 to 16 ozs water with a squirt of lemon juice.

Lunch - usually a small portion of previous nights dinner.  Last night we had turkey chili, cornbread, fresh veggies with ranch dip,  and I will have 20 ozs water with lemon....usually she has a diet soda.  or she will add great value sf flavored drink mix to her water.

Snack - fat free yogurt and more water with lemon

Dinner - 20 ozs water preceeding dinner.  Tonight we are having a hobo dinner at the park with a group of people in our community and then we will walk the path in the park.  Tonight our Hobo Dinner consists of 5 oz hamburger patty, 1/2 c steamed brocolli/cauliflower/carrots, 1 slice of whole wheat bread, Water to drink...probably flavored with sf drink mix.

Snack - Cut up apples with fat free cream cheese fruit dip.

Since we are both trying to lose so much weight, our main exercise at this time is brisk walking.  She also has a hernia (soon to be reparied) so she has to be careful in her exercises.  Oh, she can also keep up with Richard Simmons and Sweatin to the Oldies (I can't do it)  I ride a stationary bike or do a cardio fit while she does her thing.  We do this for a minimum of 20 mins a day.

I would love to share progress and offer support on the other side.  This is something a LOT of us need.  Perhaps we can start our own support website and share there rather than take up space here.  Or we can share private e-mails and do it there.  Send me a note.

Website being built as we speak.  Probably gonna host it on geocities or something.  All who are interested, let me know on the other side and if you have website building skills, let me know that too....I am but a novice..but I love the challenge.

I am in the process of losing weight also I cut my carbs since I have insulin resistance the Doctor said that it was the best thing to keep my blood sugar stable so I don't feel sick for too much sugar in my blood or not enough. I lost 10 pounds in 2 months and that is great for me since I have tried plenty of times to lose weight and never suceeded. I have learned from the doctor that most fruit has a lot of carbs but also eating fruit is healthy if you don't have blood sugar problems. I was told by my doctor if I can lose weight I won't have problems in the future as long as I stay on top of it. I know that alot of people need help with losing weight and I am surprised by the small changes I made that I have lost as much weight as I had. I have noticed before tho if you cut out sodas and drink like koolaid (if you are like me I don't like to drink water) it helps you lose weight too.

Well here I can help out a bit. Seeing as I have been there done that and have all the diet t-shirts and totes to prove it.

3 basic things you need to start out with. A good multi vitamin, protein and water water water.

If you are not getting enough vitamins in your diet or from supplements your body will get it where it is stored the most...in your muscles. So any workout or excerise program you do is going to take longer to see results. Make sure the vitamin your taking is held together with gelatin...the same thing used to make jello, as it is easier to break down, that way you will get more of what your body needs.

You should be getting at least 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight just to maintain your present weight.  That is easier said than done and sometimes it is impossible to do so. If you are dieting you should never go below 75-100 grams of lean protein a day. Got to remember though that your body can only process about 25 grams of protein an hour so unless you get a time released protein alot of what you intake will go out in waste. Different ways to get protein are from soy and whey powders. Be careful and read the lables, alot have high fat/sugar/carbs...IF your using that one as a mean replacement then usually you will be ok. Example: I drink two muscle milks a day as meal replacements and eat one meal a day plus I have a couple of snacks inbetween. I am getting everything I need from those 'meal replacements'. If you are going to use them as a supplement then I would suggest something along the lines of isopure. Low to no carbs/sugar and low in calories. Granted the taste isn't that great but it does help put protein in your diet. Other sources of protein are fish, lean chicken (white meat no dark) lean steak and beef jerky. Also eggs are a good source, eating them boiled is best. They are dense so they make you feel full longer. Beef jerky is about the same but can satisify you on many fronts...first there is the chewing...this triggers the 'oh boy food is on the way' in the brain also jerky tends to stay in the stomach longer as well as it takes longer to break it down to digest. (Side note here as well, you can use protein bars in your diet as well. Most taste good and can be used as your 'snack'. Just look for carbs and calories, I know that some have over 400 calories and up to 50 grams of carbs per bar.)

Now water...seeing as summer is around the corner you should be getting at least 80 ounces a day...100-120 is even better. Water helps flush your system out and keeps you from becoming dehydrated.

Another thing that will help is limit your intake on 'whites'. Change white bread to a grain bread. Same with pasta...go to a whole grain instead of white. Use brown rice instead of white rice and just get rid of the potatoes. Also cut out corn...it's mostly a starch anyway. Now this is not saying cut it all out forever. Moderation is the key. Have it occasionally and in small portions.

Keep a log of everything you eat...what time you eat, along with what you drink to include water. Also note how you slept the night before, time you went to bed and got up. Your exercise to include any house/yard work and running around. You can also put down how you are feeling that day. (For us ladies it helps to track your cycle as well.) After a couple of weeks look back and see how you did and where you can make adjustments.

As for exercise I would consult your doctor first and have a physical done as well. Any problems can be addressed at that time and taken care of.

A note on diet pills. Most on the market today are thermogenics and contain alot of caffine or stimulates. IF at all possible steer clear of them. If you have high blood pressure stay away from them as well as it can cause problems. If you feel you need to add something then I would suggest something along the lines of CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid). It's basically a fatty acid that helps block the absorption of fats.

Good  luck and I hope that some of what I suggested helps!=]

I am also looking to shed some lbs.     I will be keeping an eye on this thread, and would also be interested in a websight to get support and share experiences.

I know that what seems to work for me the best, is limit portion size, and excerise.   I find that if I "diet", I end up craving something and lose ground, and also after reaching my goal weight, when I go back to regular eating, I gain it all back plus some.

For me, I eat anything I wish, just VERY small portions.    I do try to incorperate fruit into my diet as well, since I don't get enough of that.

Thank you all for posting with your suggestions and information on what you are doing or have done to lose weight.

i've already begun cutting out sweets/sugars. i don't even want cookies cake or candy anymore, though sometimes i'll have a little ice cream if i find i'm looking for anything sweet. i've learned that the Haagen Dazs Amazon Chocolate is very very rich in flavor and because of that when i have any of it at all, i can only stand to take a few spoonfuls at a time. i've had the same pint container of it for a week and have only touched it twice, each time only having a few spoonfuls, to where it's only down about a half inch. It's a nice and cool treat.

i'm thinking i'm going to try this to begin with. i'll cut out pretty much all breads and grains except for one bowl of cereal in the morning. It'll be a cereal such as Quaker Oat Squares or something like that that's high in fiber. For lunches i'm thinking i'll have a salad topped with either diced grilled chicken or with chunk light tuna packed in water. i've come up with a dressing for salad that's out of this world. Safeway has a line of organic items. One of their salad dressings, Tuscan Italian, is really good. i take roma tomatoes, sliced onions (vidalia in the summer, and small sweet yellow or white in the winter), green pepper slices, and fresh basil leaves cut into strips and douse them all with the Tuscan Italian dressing, leaving the mixture to marinate overnight. That's what i dress my salads with. The flavors of the tomatoes, veggies, and dressing mix nicely and the onions and peppers soften and sweeten. Yummy mixture indeed!

i'm not certain about dinners yet, but i know i'm going to have to cut out my biggest craving (pasta), at least for a while. It's the one thing i can eat morning noon and night and not get tired of.

Another change i'm making is the birth control method i've been using. i've been getting the shot. Since i started on the shot, i've gained 50 lbs. i don't know for certain if there's truly a connection for me personally, but it's too much of a coincidence for my cup of tea. i'll go back to Ortho TriCyclen, i think. i didn't have any problems with it.

Anyways...i will definitely post here as i go through the next couple months at least...And hopefully when i go to visit my Master in August, i'll look and feel so much better than i do now. :)

Thank you all again!

A samll group of friends and family and I are all on a diet together. The support is always great.  After the great success of a few other friends, we decided to do the 6 week Body makeover.  Its a pretty simple system.  You eat 5-6 times a day in specific combinations. Portion controlled but the choices are quite diverse.  Its no added salt, fat or sugar, so its suitable to most dietary issues. Though Diabetics need to consult their physicians.  It has you doing cardio 5 days a week and some targeted exercises that are minimal impact meant to tone not bulk up.  And as someone mentioned before... water., water, water.... 100 oz a day is reccomended.  I start feeling sloshy at about 80. but its really not that hard to do.
I've done the whole atkins thing and it worked pretty well.  I lost 30 lbs in about 6 months.  But the only way it was going to work long term is to give up my carbs and I just cant do it.  My sister did medifast and had a lot of trouble with it. And she felt weak a lot of the time. But she did lose the weight.

I have the lowest loss of our bunch right now and I'm at 6 lbs in 2 weeks.  There is the website that explains how it works.  I found the system a lot cheaper on HSN.  You are welcome to email me if you have some other questions. I dont post that often on here so I dont know what the rules are about posting links.  You can look it up on the web, or you can message me and I can give you the link if you like.

Either way I wishh the OP and everyone else who wishes to lose  great success and I too will be watching the thread in the future.

Rose

I have heard from Doctors and other people that the birth control shot will make you gain weight so that could be a factor and changing that and your diet should help you lose the weight.

Santalia ---

Good luck to you! I know all too well how hard it is to lose weight.

My brother just lost 45 pounds doing Weight Watchers, and he looks great.

Some of my friends have found Overeaters Anonymous (a food version of AA) to be a huge help.

All best wishes,

DC

COUNT ME IN!!!!!! I to am trying to loose weight, as it has become a serious health issue with me. I stand at the moment, right at 300lbs. I can barely stand, much less walk. While I have cut back on how much I eat, I am still have trouble putting downs snacks and stuff. Yea...there's a bag of cheetos, a watchamacallit bar and a Dr. Pepper sitting right next to me. :( Ah the pains of good junk.

Anywhoo....I think a support group would be great. I think that might be one thing that held me back for so long....that and the fact of everytime I turned around, I was getting.."You should be ashamed" from my mother...and her damn near as big as me.

I to was using the depo shot. Started it in 90 after the birth of my last little one...ended using it just a little over a year ago. And with it...I gained a lot of weight. Now, I am using the Meranda. Doc says it can and more than likely end my period, but without all the weight gain associated with the depo.

BBBTBW...I have good experience with Geocities, i'd be willing to help ya it. If you want...take a look at geocities.com/hammy_grammy  It's not very big, and still a work in prgress. I did have another site I was gonna give that I did that was quite huge, but for the life of me, can't remember it. :P

Greetings my Jarl
Greetings A/all

Thank You, my Jarl. i love You too and fully believe that i am so very lucky to be Yours. You know it is my desire to serve and please You to the best of my ability, and i hope losing weight will allow me to serve You so much better than i can now.

And thank you to all who have posted since i last responded to this thread. This will be somewhat difficult for me as i've never had the willpower to lose weight and keep working on losing it before. That's why i posted here, so that hopefully i can have a place to go where i can sound out ideas, share successes, vent over failures, and then one day be able to announce that i have reached my goal.

i wish you well.

I looked at your website.  It's cute.  Some pretty basic stuff there.  I also looked at your source codes.  It looks like you used Yahoo Page Builder.  I would say that is good to start with, but does it allow you to make private pages and pages that require a password?  I used geocities a LONG time ago and the pages are probably still up, I will have to go look....but one of the things they didn't have was the ability to make membership pages.

Thanks. :) Wish I could actually understand html as I think it's cool...but it's all greek to me. I believe they do have a way of putting in passwords, as there are adult pages...just gotta figure how. I'll see what I can find.

I can't totaly empathize, but, I do know ways of dropping weight and gainign muscle, they are simple ways and work VERY well. I use them most of the time for normal stuff and living, or when I have a shoot, I just do as many as I can in a short period of time. I also get winded walking for short distances, I am asthmatic and my asthma is slowing getting undercontrol, so hardcore worksouts are still out of bonds for now.

Simpel little things ~
  • take a bit, then put your fork down and your hands in you lap, chew and swallow completly before picking up your fork.spoon again; this gives you stomach the chance to feel 'full' if thats what you are going for and to savor your food.
  • eat until you are staisfied, NOT until you are stuffed. this may take a bit of time to understand you own body clues.
  • for every glass of soda you drink, drink 2 glasses of water; plus drink one large glass of water before every meal
  • use smaller plates and bowls, if you are still hundry after eating, wait 20 minutes before going back for 2nds, or remove the tempatation all together, after plateing up food, then put the rest in the fridge, so its not out and the temptation is out of sight.
  • when you are driving or eatching tv, clinch your butt muscles at the stoplights/comercials.
  • when you are watching a movie, get on the treadmill and walk at a compfortable pace turning the movie, when/if anyone is running on the screen, run with them.
  • do NOT tell yourself I will NOT have 'xyz' once you do that, you crave it more, instead say, "I will have one scoop' or 'one handfull' etc, that way you KNOW your limit and put the rest of the temptation away
  • keep carrot sticks and celery sticks in the fridge where you can grab them, use a little low fat dressing to dip...
  • Park a farther back than normal when shopping, etc.

Ok.. I have a bunch more little things.. but hopefully that willg et you started. Good luck.
