Has dropped a notch in my view. I would herald him as one who would not kowtow to the US or who knows, who was deposed by the CIA a while back and THE PEOPLE rose up and reinstated him to his rightful position as the duly elected President. However recently it has been announced that he is not going to renew the license for a broadcasting outlet because they oppose him. Cited reasons are that they minimize everything good he has done, or instigated, and when the coup was happening they didn't broadcast the news, instead they put on a bunch of cartoons etc., from what I've read. This is a bit of a letdown. I would handle it differently. Granted, they did not operate in the public interest, but to shut them down is not right. Media in the US does not operate in the public interest, and haven't for decades. What we are going through in the US should be yelled from every mountaintop. But instead they tell you on the news where you can get a good hairdo. But this brings up another point. With all this corruption going on, not one major media outlet in the US opposes the government, ever. No matter what happens it is all OK, as long as that advertising money comes in. We have a "partnership" between big business, the media and the government, but don't call it a conspiracy. They say it is not, so it is not. Apparently Chavez has been unsuccessful or unwilling to install such a conspiracy in Venezuela (yes, that WOULD be a conspiracy because the US gov says so). And you mean to tell me that this station has been allowed to operate all these years ? How long did it take them to get rid of Don Imus ? Why didn't Chavez just take over that station after the coup, change the call letters to "El Presidente" and be done with it ? Answer : because he is not the dictator they make him out to be. If I were he, I would hire someone to watch that station 24/7 and report to me everything they said about me, and rebut it. As intelligently and precisely as I possibly could. I would endevor to make them look like assholes. Chavez is not stupid, and as President can usurp programming for national announcements, like they do here every time Dubya speaks. They don't like me, fine, I'll do it when they are supposed to be running their most popular shows. Question is, if a TV network or station in the US constantly went against the powers that be, how long do you think they would last ? I would bet not long. This is still disturbing, he has stood against the powers that think they be all over the globe and has been successful thus far. He had enough popular support to throw the CIA out on their ear. The only reason I can figure out for this is that he is relatively fair, and a competent leader. This action will cost him big in public opinion, not only in Venezuela, but around the globe. Or is it that power corrupts, and he is going to become what they call him ? I think it is a very bad move to quell opposition by this method, even though they do it here every day. You don't know how bad it is here until shit happens to you. And when it does the media will be silent. This action by Chavez proves one thing, that they do not have a conspiracy between the Vanezuelan government and the media, if they did, it would never happen. But it is happening now. That is not a good thing. Comment if you want, but I am ending this now. I am in search of some good news, it is Saturday. T
