In this thread we have references to Martha Stewart and perfectionism, so I'll parrot her answer:

If it matters to you, wouldn't you want to make sure it's done right?

Yet got me thinking to all the stuff I wrote and there's very very few I rewrote. Mostly it gets revised as I write the original, but eh...that's how my process works with me! Yet trying to force myself is a simple waste of time.

edited to add: I think Donna has read one or two from my blogs?

scifi1133 -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/1/2007 7:27:38 PM)

i agree with bear...out of anything ive ever written i tend to leave it alone when im donr....to much tweaking ruins it imo......

Lemme see...

The last writing project I had was doing a gonzo food journalism blog that quite frankly sucked so much ass through a straw that there are no donkeys in Terre Haute any longer... That was aborted in July.

I've lost pretty much all interest in fiction. I still keep my hand in NaNoWriMo yearly, but that's more out of principle than ambition.

The last poem I had published was something not very good in "The Flying Island" - a "local" poetry mag. I think Clinton was in office then...

The last one I attempted - 3:12 am this morning. Interrupted at 3:13 by someone snuggling up to me with Her snotty nose.

I *DO* still have outlines and proposals for my ambitious cookbook project living on my HD and in my card file - my goal was to write full and legitimate pitches for cookbooks, one a month.

But I know my poetry enough to let others say it for me with much better results...

If you're published, you're a step ahead of me...and I've written over 300 poems, 73 songs, a score of short stories, and several novels. [;)]  The only reason there's so much of it all is because my thinky-box won't shut down.  Ever.

Sometimes it helps to remind myself that while I judge myself harshly when it comes to writing [anything], the words certainly don't judge me.  If you can look at your work and see a bit of your heart and mind in it, you've already succeeded.

I would venture to say, enjoy what you can, and try not to be too derisive to the things that don't live up to your standards.  Humans are imperfect, but the English language is a bloody mess!

beargonewild -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/1/2007 7:28:12 PM)

Heys scifi. How are you tonight?  Hugs and gropes, just because I can  *grin*

earthycouple -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/1/2007 7:28:45 PM)

I used to write a fair amount...when I was about 16...the best outlet I had for frustrations...I had other outlets but they sucked.  Today....I'm too busy writing papers for class and reading Dora the Explorer to give my private thoughts a venue beyond CM journals....which I take some pride in...I try to think about them before I write them.

earthycouple -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/1/2007 7:29:49 PM)

bear...yep *S*

scifi1133 -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/1/2007 7:30:01 PM)

hiya bear hows it going tonight
*gropes back because i can* <weg>

beargonewild -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/1/2007 7:31:24 PM)

It's when a concept or a specific thought is nagging my brain is when I'll sit down and write. Needless to say, there have been many dry spells in between, other times it's a mad fury writing one after another  LOL.

Lumus -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/1/2007 7:32:23 PM)

Maybe we should create a poetry thread then. [:'(]

Definitely something other than the haiku madness iammachine started with me. [;)]

I'm curious to see what other people here write; and as a writer I don't know that I'll ever get proper criticism without whoring the work out.

*thinks* . o O (Then again, I tried that a few days ago with "Shiver"...only one person responded and oddly enough, it was in this thread and not to the story itself...)

e01n -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/1/2007 7:33:11 PM)

Writing: I skipped over the parts about "ballad" as well in Lumus' question...

Not the newest I've written, but the only Spade+Archer album which had writing credit only for "Melissa Archer"...
