I was lucky... the trap that grabbed my leg had smooth jaws. It only left a huge bruise and welt, although it hurt so much when it sprung that I saw stars. My sister, on the other hand, stepped into one that had serrated jaws. Luckily for her, they were well worn to the point of being almost completely rounded. Still, they managed to tear up her skin quite badly when the trap sprung. Neither of our legs were broken, so we were better off than others who managed to step inside those traps. I'm glad they're outlawed. The way people went about leaving them next to backwoods hiking trails, used by those of us who didn't like the routine, beaten path but yet were not so daring as kids to wander off into the woods without the aid of a trail, was a crime in itself. I don't know how many times during my hikes as a kid in upstate NY I came across an animal that had tried to "free itself" from one of those nasty contraptions, only to have died from its injuries. And, it's my pleasure... you're welcome. :)
