I have a recent medical textbook kicking around somewhere that states that some women can feel ovulation and refers to it as "Mittelschmerz" or however you spell it. No word to how common or how rare it is, but I do know that this thread is about personal experience.

i have spotted mid cycle since puberty and never knew what it was until i went to university,am sure everyones experiences are different and yet with similarities but we know the difference between our menstruation and what happens in between during our cycle

Greetings, i may spot for a few hours. Usually i can tell the different by my vaginal secretions (i actually used this as a family planning method at one time...it's called the billing method and pretty effective). i also can often tell by a pinch in the area of my ovaries on whatever side happens to be ovulating that month.

Had that in my 30's. Light cramps for a day two weeks before my period. And I was always much more aroused right after ovulation. It made getting pregnant easy though, I knew when was the right time to try.

I'm feelin' it RIGHT NOW . I get slight cramping on my left side, always, I get one pimple on my chin and I get horney as hell for about three days then I run cold on the horniness for about three days then I'm back to normal in time for my period. WTF was Eve thinkin' when she ate that damn apple?!

I can certainly feel it, and always have been able to. At one point I was having such debilitating pain that I had surgery performed to make sure there were no other reasons for the pain, and I am certainly not a baby when it comes to pain, believe me. To whoever said that ''you could'nt tell'' please understand that simply because you do not experience something does not make it untrue, and to state something like that ''as a fact'' only angers others.

Dr. diagnosis of middleschmirtz here since I was 17. The majority of woman ovualte on a rotating basis with their ovaries, most do a left/right/left sort of thing but not everyone. There is nearly nothing about the human body that can be said as it never or always happens.

Hmmm, seems like i'm the only one who doesn't (well didn't, since i'm on the pill now) get super horny while ovulating. Then again, i'm super horny most of the time, so maybe i just didn't notice lol. i was another one of those massive cramping during ovulation kinda gals. Totally ruined my wedding night actually lol. There we are, in bed, gettin ready, and suddenly i'm curled up in a ball, crying cuz i hurt so bad. There's a mood killer right there. lol. i could always tell when and what side i was ovulating on. Also had the extra wetness thing going on, could actually get kinda embarassing, would have to put a towel down if i was gonna have sex around that time, or else i'd have Lake Erie in my bed lol. i'd asked a bunch of gals i knew if they had the same thing, they looked at me like i'd turned green. Nice to know i'm not the only one! lol ~kitty

It happens on one side, since I was about 35..stabbing, stinging, burning, double you over, horrible pain that THANKFULLY is cured with a few Ibuprofen and only lasts for 1 day. But like a few others, I can mark my calendar when it happens and 2 weeks to the day my flow starts. Contrary to others, I do NOT want to get pregnant at that time, just want some intense TLC.

I have argued this with the medical community more than I would care to remember. Thankfully it is over for me for the most part. They say that one cannot get pregnant two different times at the same time. Wrong! Rare... but it can happen. They say you can only ovulate once a month. Wrong! Again, rare but if can happen. When I was taking medical classes, I had severe problems with this and I would swell in an hour to look six months pregnant. I was ninty pounds soaking wet, so it was noticable. I felt like I was miscarrying. I ovulated one to five times in a month, which most said was impossible, but it happened. I later proved it. Most the time I only did it twice a month. I went to the hospital and they told me I was bleeding during ovulation. I said... you mean I am hemorrhaging? They asked how I would know or say something that. I told them I was taking medical classes. He then said... oh a first year med student, you will suffer everything you study. I said... I am studying the male reproductive system next month, will I suffer that too? He kicked me out. For every rule there is an exception.

Yes it's painful and at the same time, while I wouldn't want to have sex at that moment (usually lasts about an hour, heating pad helps), I'm incredibly horney for the few days around when it happens. l

Some simply have not been trained to notice the signs and can notice it once trained. Many women use this as a natural method of birth control ... the ovulation or Billings method. Others use it as a means to enhance the chance to get pregnant if that's what they want to achieve! And no, we were NOT talking about menstruation, the cramps then if experienced, typically last longer than ovulatory pain. Ovulation is the release of the ovum from the ovarian follicle which swells up and bursts quite violently. This can be the source of the pain, which is why it is typically felt more on one side ... and while some women have a dominant ovary, others have ovaries that take it in turns. Ovum release happens under the influence of Luteinizing Hormone, midway through the cycle. The ovum is then wafted into the oviduct (Fallopian tube) and is most likely to be fertilized when it is in the upper third of that tube, ie within about 3 days of ovulation. Which is why women's mucus secretions change as I described earlier and typically the libido increases (though, as some posters rightly pointed out, NOT at the precise moment of ovulation! Especially if this is painful. That would be jumping the gun!). Now I don't know where you were getting your information but I have lectured Human Anatomy and Physiology at University and schools for the better part of 30 years and I believe in staying up to date!
