Hi all.

I am stuggling to find a balance and blend with my spiritual beliefs and my bdsm.  I know threads keep popping up dealing with bdsm and christianity, I was just wondering why we don't have a section here on CM.  I'm talking about  for those folks who affiliate strongly with their spiritual beliefs specifically and the complications and/or specific issues that comes with that. similar to the sections dedicated to poly and Gorean.    I have some issues I need help sorting out, but don't feel like it's going to be relevant to everyone and frankly, I'm not interested in getting a general consensus, rather I'd like to speak more directly to those folks who subcribe to a similar belief system.
Sooooo... how do I lobby for a spirituality section or some such?

When you say spiritual beliefs, are you saying based on your religious beliefs?

I'm spiritual and BDSM is a part of my spiritual being but I am not religious and for the most part am not a fan of most organized religion. 

Please clarify.

It is my spiritual beliefs that I am concerned with.  Although, if I were dealing with a religeous belief, my question would be the same.

Mostly because these forums are separated mainly by orientation.  There are oodles of other forums and yahoogroups and websites which feature those particular issues first and foremost.

I think thats a good idea. I would be interested to see the disscussions taking place. But within the context of christianity I often fail to see the REAL problem with BDSM within a marriage.

Its in the bible that a woman should submit to her husband...so ur probably in the clear. And even if ur male likes to switch it also says a man should treasure and applaud his wife...in whcih case his subbing could quite easily just be an outlet for that. There is a line about 'you should not take pleasure in others suffering' but I always like to think that even pain in BDSM, is not real suffering...it is pleasure...I would get no kick out of domming a nilla girl...THAT would be taking pleasure in anothers pain, and be somthing wrong, that im not interested in.

I am a pagan personally so have no contradiction with BDSM and my beliefs. Dylan on the other hand is a Christian following the old Celtic beliefs, he brings up a good point for him. There is over and over again in the Old Testament the old poly families of the patriarchs etc, and in the New Testament a section in the Bible (I dont know the section he does) that states "For a Bishop should only have ONE wife." Obviously indicating that at that time poly relationships abounded.

He also points out that we dont play out side of our House..........ergo we are sexually faitful unto our circle. As for the sexual aspects of play LOL do we really need to go into what is sexually correct or not between spouse/s :0)

As for the rest of our lifes and interactions we both worship in our own ways and respect each others believes. Yes, I will say the dirty word. A moral code based on our "religous believes" of right and wrong is what we live by. I think that you starting this thread is an excellent idea and hopefully some deep discussions will come from it.

While I know this has been brought up time and time again, I'd like to point out that there are many forms of spirituality, some co exist with religion, some don't.  Some have their spirituality within a BDSM relationship and some just have by practicing the BDSM lifestyle.  There are other forms as well (tantric sex etc).

I think so far we have like 3 seperate topics within this one thread, congruence with BDSM and christiantity,  different contexts of spirituality within BDSM and poly households within a spiritual context. I think a spiritual BDSM section would yeild plenty of cool discussions.

Octavia , One of the best things i ever did for my Spiritual side was attend the southwest Leather Confrence.First off it was  very close and went in with a very open mind ,Second there were topics and presentors that very much interested that side of me . Now i wont miss  the event ,the energy is always extreamly positive and the info i gained  a gift .

i have been told i could be a cult leader if i wanted the position, perhaps an even better one since i do not want the position...anyway...i identify as an eclectic christian mystic...i take rituals from all religions, find my center in christianity and do things that would be most closely identified with as a religious mystic...mystic (as defined by my World Religions text book Living Religions by Mary Pat Fisher) - one who has been encourage to develop their own intuitive abilities to perceive spiritual truths directly, beyond the senses, beyond the limits of human reason, beyond blind belief...and it can be found in all religions, theistic and non-theistic, those with monotheistic foundations tend to question the mystics more...

anywhere...where do you find others? everywhere...i am not sure there are forums specifically for blending beliefs in bdsm...but there are forums for blending families where one parent is Jewish and one is Christian for instance...

I think what the OP is actually asking is for advice on where to go for this kind of thing. She's right - we don't have a specific board geared towards this, and it would be a nice addition. I would most certainly back a lobby to get that added on - especially if we can separate it a bit by religion/spiritual beliefs. Christianity is prevalent, but not everyone that asks about this dissonance is talking about that particular faith.

I find that BDSM frequently clashes with my Buddhist nature to avoid harming others, but very much plays towards my Tantric and Zen beliefs. I would also love discussion on that, and there are definitely people posting on these forums whose opinions I would love to hear on such things.

I should correct that - thanks chelle. What I meant there was hurt - inflicting pain. I do enjoy a bit of impact play and spankings, and that definitely doesn't jive with the stereotypical pacifist notions of Buddhism - at least, as I understand it.

Regardless of what I think or what others post, I think you know what is right for you without relying on other people to think for you.  Regardless of what you read, it is up to you to decide.

I definitely appreciate this bit of input. It's a constant state of question for me - whether it really does constitute harm or not. Some days feel one way, some another.

And this is why we need dedicated boards for this. I would love to expound on this.

theres is  nothing wrong with christanity and bdsm it is all through out the bible infact a lot stricter forms of servertude I would say It is very simple put god first and things will rock. A lot of people do not understand that  side of things but in every religieon we are humble before the eyes of god or what ever they beleave. So Nothing says you can not be kinky with the one person your married to  but your right about new orgs popping up I guess people want foundation growth

i'm not sure where to go to find a discussion board for the subject of spirituality and BDSM.  SimplyMichael supplied one link.

All i can say is that learning how to surrender in M/s gave me a better understanding on how to surrender to God as i know Him.

I followed the link, and I don't think they are talking about the same types of issues, but I will dig a bit deeper and see if I can find more people like myself dealing with similar issues.  and, YES a corollation between my learning to surrender to my Lover and God is one of the things I am noticing as well, that I would love to explore further on a thread.

not sure if this is relevant or not, but when i read your last post, octavia, it reminded me of something i wrote in another thread a few weeks ago...here it is...

"i lived my life following my own will for way too long, i now try to live by God's will and i have figured out that i can fuck things up in an instant just let me let myself take back my will...so how does that figure into a power exchange relationship?  I look for a Dominant that aligns his will with God's will so that when i align my will with my Dominants i am aligning my will with God's...and in my order's to "protect the property at all costs" even if that means protecting it from the owner...if my Dominants will deviates from God's i will keep my will aligned with God's until my Dominants will returns to aligned with God's rather than following my Dominants personal will...because my Dominant is human...not God.... "
