slaveboyforyou -> What's your favorite accent? (11/24/2007 10:09:28 PM)

I just thought of this thread, when I read a response to one of my posts.  Someone used some creative spelling when responding in the assumption that all of us from the South sound like Rhett Butler.  It made me smile, because I love to hear people from other areas of the world talk.  I have to say that my favorite accent is when I spent some time in southwest Louisiana.  I love to hear true coonasses talk (coonasses are what we call Cajuns in the South by the way).  Hollywood never gets their accent right, they always give them the New Orleans accent in movies.  They sound like they are singing when they talk almost.  I noticed the same thing among Appalachian folk.  My dad was from West Virgina, and there is a musical tone to the way they talk.  Yoopers would run a close second.  People from the upper peninsula of Michigan just have this voice that draws you in.

Austrailian.  I've got a coworker I could listen to all day long no matter what he's talking about.

I love the Irish accent.
Particularly from Derry.
My grandmother had that Derry accent.
"Hi-yaaaa" means "how are you."
I hate my accent.
The "Bahston accent."

Well, since my slave is from Memphis, it's got to be a southern accent.

MissMagnolia -> RE: What's your favorite accent? (11/24/2007 11:06:28 PM)

I'm partial to a Russian accent. Fuck knows why.

Kana -> RE: What's your favorite accent? (11/24/2007 11:07:41 PM)

Estring, I appreciate that.  But I have to tell you that there is no such thing as a "southern accent"  My mother grew up in Georgia, and my dad grew up in West Virginia.  They are both southern, but they speak very differently.  I grew up in Arkansas, and I my accent sounds different too.  I have traveled all over this great continent of ours, and it is funny how different we are.  I love it.  I think television has diminished those differences quite a bit, but we still have them.

I like the Boston accent too, Popeye.  I dated a gal from up there, and I loved to listen to her.  She had the red hair and everything.  I don't think a lot of Americans read much about history.  My ancestors were Scots-Irish, which is Ulster Scots or Protestant Irish.  We've been here since the 1600's.  It was funny having those conversations with her.  She told me that her parents would shit if they knew that.

astarri -> RE: What's your favorite accent? (11/24/2007 11:32:28 PM)

LOL, there's 50,000 women like that in Boston.
Yeah, my last name is a "Scottish Planter" name, I looked it up.
They went to N. Ireland to get away from the Jacovite wars about 400 years ago..
My grandmother's maiden name was "Doherty" and there's a shitload of them in N.I. and Donegal.
It's nothing to hear an Irish accent in Boston. They're everywhere there in schools, to work, musicians.

Oh wow... I'm an "accents in general" person... Well, the one qualifier is that they can't be from teh states.  I just turn to goo. And the good kind of goo, if you know what I mean.

I just talked to a gal from Cajun country, and she said she has a boyfriend from Pine Bluff.  That's down in the Delta (for those of us in Arkansas), and they have a different accent from us hill folk.  We call them flatlanders.  That's what I am talking about.  I love the differences in English dialect.  I have never thought of it as ignorant or uneducated.  I love to hear our differences.  I heard a recording of  the Gullah language in the barrier islands off of the Carolinas, and that made me want to visit.  I love all the differences we have.  It makes the world such an exciting place to live in.

I can't pick a favourite between Russian and Irish accents.  Of course, I simply adore Russian women;  they have these beautiful almond-shaped eyes...ok, so maybe that's affecting my judgement, but I still love that accent.  I love pretty much any accent, but the best would be any woman who simply speaks a foreign language to me.  It's one of those "I didn't understand a single word of that, but please, keep talking." sort of things. *smiles*

Lordandmaster -> RE: What's your favorite accent? (11/25/2007 1:13:03 AM)

I love all kinds of crazy accents.  Any kind of Celtic accent is nice: Irish, Scottish, and Welsh can be very pretty too.  I could listen to those accents all day long.  Caribbean too.  I'm not a big fan of most major European accents (English, eh, French, eh, German, eh, not my thing), but Italian can be sexy, and I like some Slavic accents.  (I find Czech prettier than Russian, for all those people who have mentioned Russian accents.)  Greek is also nice.  Oh, and Hungarian can be captivating.  Brazilian is really sexy!

I'm not really a big fan of most Asian accents, but some Southeast Asian accents, like Burmese, can be pretty.

Aceton -> RE: What's your favorite accent? (11/25/2007 1:27:32 AM)

Anything Eastern European is just ridiculosly hot...

Sunao -> RE: What's your favorite accent? (11/25/2007 1:35:54 AM)

I once knew both these girls one from Kansai and the other from the Osaka region both spoke excellent english but you could tell that they weren't native because of there accent but I'd have to say I adore Australion. I really don't know why given that I'm really partial to japanese people.

beachbum96761 -> RE: What's your favorite accent? (11/25/2007 2:31:50 AM)

Austrailian accents and slang are great. Pissed for drunk. A root for intercourse, but New Zealand accents are my favorite. Best accent i've ever been called a bastard in. hehe
