MissHarlet, "Who pays to travel"
Your comment, "I have rather oldfashioned ideas of who should pay based on gender roles. However if things have progressed to where I am comfortable enough to have them as a guest in my home,"
I too am old-fashioned in reference to respecting myself and honoring my word, if there is enough intrigue and promise of innovation creativity and challenge, I will travel to meet a woman. In fact, I am not geographically shackled at all and expect there to be cost any time I travel for any reason.

If both people want to meet then they can split the costs I guess, or she pays her own fee;s to get there and he hosts, or vice versa.

Actually, YHMA, it was something you said in the other thread that got me to thinking.  You said, "I think now whom evers idea it was should pay." What if you both want to meet, you chew over the particulars, and you decide that you should go to his location.  Then it's a mutual idea.

Kinda like holding onto an ex's favorite jacket so they will still call you.

what?? you're supposed to give the jackets back???  huh.  *scritches head, thinking about the 3 leather jackets from one guy and the baja jacket she snagged this past weekend from another*

nope, jackets are mine forever.  mine mine mine!!!!

*laughs* It's ok. I still have some of the clothes I "borrowed" from exes. Just too damn comfy to give back!

To paraphrase an earlier comment:

i just have to wonder...where ARE the submissives/slaves with honor and integrity??  *sigh*

I know what integrity means to me and I've met and gotten know plenty of people of integrity here and in similar venues. Hell, once, in a particularly sadistic mood I married one of them.

It occurs to me that those who complain that they only seem to attract flies might benefit from some self examination.

As for honor, the people I've heard about who have thrown that word around have tended in the end to use it as an excuse to put "principles" above people in a uniformly shitheaded and/or cowardly fashion.

I continue to do very well meeting people with integrity, in part by systematically avoiding those who like to talk about honor.

well the greek maggot before you borrowed 4000 to meet his soul mate, from me, that he never paid back.
You are the one who insisted i go to you. I wanted you to come to me. It was your choice to stay home, in your country, forcing me to go to you. In retrospect, it was a good trip (althought my injury sustained there still plagues me) and i thank you for that. perhaps next time i will get to go sight seeing.

By all means i never regret of entertaining my ex Mistress here in my home. W/we both had some great times when Her health allowed it. It just scared me to hell when i saw the state She was when She was in pain. i only wish She gets better. When She was in my care i did the atmost to treat Her in the best way i could.

noah...three of the jackets i spoke of were left to me by LordFallcon when he passed away.

the other one was given to me by mr weekend when he left, because it didnt fit him, and he was amused by how huge on me it was.

i've not ever refused to return something that someone lent to me, or forgot to take home.  i was joking.

In the thread on relocating and travel, there were several ideas on who pays for it. I thought I had a very firm opinion on it, but after reading some of the others, I'm not so sure anymore. Who do you think should pay for travel to meet someone? Who should pay for relocating?

Cali

Wow, I just simply avoid these questions by saying I won't be involved with anyone who would have to travel more than a few hours by car to get to me.

Of course, you see above my rule on that. I have a household, anyone wishing to join it or learn about it first hand comes to me and they can cover their own costs. I'll feed them and give them shelter while they are here once a formal training has started but otherwise the cost is in their hands.

Frankly the idea of anyone more than on the other side of town doesn't really thrill me either.

If someone wants to BE with me they COME to me.

I get two weeks of vacation a year. This year's is pretty much already over half spoken for with my daughter expecting her first child and me hosting another huge family gathering late in the summer.

IF I get the time and the extra dollars, I want to go back to the New Orleans area. First reason, there is a submissive from here, UR2B, that has become a delightful friend and I really want to spend some quality time with her. And secondly, I love the area. It feels weirdly like going home, even though I've only been there once.

The new girl that I am getting to know is from Northern California. I don't think we are at a stage of planning to get together yet. If we do, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

If someone wants to meet Me for the first time, I am more likely to suggest it be at an event of some kind that I was already planning to attend.  Each pays their own way and if nothing else, I enjoy the event.  I don't cover anyone else's expenses but My own.  That way, I'm not out anything should someone chose not to go.  It was the arrangement that I had when I met My current submissive, and it's worked very well in that case.

When it gets to the point where My sub and I will have to travel to see each other, whoever is doing the travelling will pay the expense.  I'm thinking that will even out between each of U/us taking turns.

As for relocation, both of U/us will be doing that at different times, but those costs will be covered by different means.

Neat, this seems like a pretty orginial topic.

I think it tends to be rather situational.  If they're both well off, typically the traveler will pay its own expenses.  If one's well off and the other isn't, the one with more capital may pay.  If they're both a bit strained, it'd probably be best to split it as appropriate, or cancel it until the finicial strain isn't as dire.

I'm used to relationships that are less of dating and more of combining finances, so the above typically works for my situations.  For more dating-like situations, I suppose the travel bill will be up for whoever wants the travel to occur more, factored in with their respective cash flows.

(Wealth plays a big role to me, because someone making six figures and living alone is very unlikely to be burdened by the loss of money as someone in the five-figure range supporting friends/family or someone going to school still.)

I have paid for some of the travel, he pays for most of it. I expect that I will pay my own relocation costs, but when I relocate I am hoping it will be about a half hour away from him because of the school I am hoping to get into. I have no expectation he would pay any of these costs. I do not think it would cost that much for me to move in with him in a year or so after the major move is complete.

For travel - for first and/or inital meetings, costs shared unless otherwise indicated.  Darcy paid for accomodation and arranged it to his liking.  I paid for travel in the beginning.  When not in a commited relationship, then I would always suggest 5050.  But thats me.
Commited to him, I do as Darcy desires.  I do pay for lunch at times, but travel expenses Darcy insists paying.  Relocation is also his wish.  He is very much of the mind that if he cannot support and care for what is his and what is his property, he would not own it.

when i first met my Owner i lived 1800 miles away in a different state, i traveled here constantly and i always paid for the initial trip but, when i arrived He always paid for everything (dinner out, movies, etc) the only thing i paid for myself was my nicotine and caffiene fixes....

i never complained over paying for the trips infact i was always so happy that the depression faze of not being with Him was almost over that i would always jump right on it.....never really thought about it.

I think it just depends on the situation to be honest, and the agreement that the two have between one another.

i think it depends on who well you know each other
first time meeting, pay dutch on everything
after that it should balance out each others lifestyles, who makes more money who is travelling further etc
