IrishMist -> RE: We have all answered this question (1/15/2008 8:08:21 AM)

Quite honestly, I can not answer this question. I know what initially attracts me to a man; but, if he manages to touch that place deep in me, the flaws that would normally repel me mean nothing; I accept them for what they are and find a way to accept them in my own life.

So, what would turn me off in most cases; has no bearing on whether or not I would be with him.

i think we are talking about two different things. Laughter and tears for a loved one one that has passed is a wonderful thing.

And sarcasium  to make light of a tense situation is just as good, but to say something thoughtless as that just for the effect to a person who is devastated, demeaning her feelings and her love for the man she lost does not fall under the catecory of funny to me.

Quite frankly, the example you supplied doesn't give enough context to prove that someone unfeelingly made a joke at the expense of a grieving person.

I know a gentleman who likes to use words literally and he would have made the same quip-- not so much to be funny (haa haa) but because he finds irony in the little euphanisms that we tend to use which really are stupid.

Taken, you really cannot control another person's sense of humor, you can laugh or not, you can inject your opinion of appropriatness, but in the end we are all big boys and girls who can act of our own free will.

Further-- you have been at the recieving end of people telling you that your words are wrong-- how does it feel to be the one criticized?  Do you feel that any of those people's paradigms was better then your own?  Do you think that those you critisize feel that you have the authority to change their behaviour?

I wonder why it is so important to you that I agree with your opinion of humor appropriateness?

this slave was/is repelled by Dominants with a submissive personality/orientation/side.

there is nothing more repulsive to this slave than someone submitting to her.

This so perfecty expresses my feelings on the subject.  Very well said!!

What repels me in people over all, however, is meanness.

RCdc -> RE: We have all answered this question (1/15/2008 8:20:59 AM)

Not exactly.
Gang mentality leads to segregation - which usually comes from some kind of bigotry.  I do not see it restricted to abusive behaviour and abusive behaviour might not even be involved.

i said to me it was wrong. That is my opinion. i don't mind being critizied by some of the people on these boards, because i have considered the source.

i'm sorry you did not understand my post. The ones who did responded intellent;y and politely which i thank them for.

givingin -> RE: We have all answered this question (1/15/2008 8:26:22 AM)

I can't stand being talked down to.  I am intelligent, well spoken, and don't need someone to talk to me as if I were otherwise.

I am very much put off by those that think they know me better than I know myself.  They try to finish your thoughts, or tell you how you feel about things.  One guy I talked to thought he was a great empath though he never got anything right.  He would brag about it all of the time to me as he told me how I felt, thought, or how I wanted things.  He was always wrong, but it was too much trouble to keep telling him that.

I am most attracted to someone that is self-assured (read: not cocky), honest, loving, and just makes life more fulfilling and enjoyable by knowing them.

Thanks for explaining it to me. :)

MadRabbit -> RE: We have all answered this question (1/15/2008 8:27:02 AM)

Too complex to give a complete answer, but off the top of my head...

Someone with horrible grammar and writing skills who feels the need to disrupt every decent thread with mindless drama, insults, close-minded judgments, and pointless small talk while attempting to posture themselves as being an extremely friendly and nice person.

I would probably find an individual like that to be incredibly unattractive and not even worth giving serious answers to their own questions they posed for discussion.

Hypothetically speaking, of course....

See now I am doing a complete hijack here now.
I completely get this - totally.  But as an aside - would you want them to change their flaws once you are with/commited to them?
There is a method in my madness in asking this and I might start a thread on my thinking - but I just wanted to ask you as you mentioned the attraction thang.

Absolutly NOT. If a person manages to reach that place inside me, it's not just the good that I am responding to; it's the bad also. They both combine to make up the person as a whole; why would I want to change that? To take away a part of them that I am reaching out for?

Since I was really responding from a female to a male reaction this post in particular made me do a double think. There is a huge difference for me between turn offs in regards to males and those in regards to females. As to things women do that make me take a very long step back would be the things that you mention plus a few more.Women who attempt to go behind the backs of those they perceive as stronger and attempt to suck up, what they attempt to gain I've yet to figure out. The double speak of agreeing to one person and nonverbally communicating the direct opposite to another person. Again for reasons that I cannot discern.I've yet to come across that with men. Thanks MR, you've given me an interesting twist on this. The different reactions I feel towards certain types of behaviour then dividing that into reactions towards men vs women.I just love a good bout of thinking just before my afternoon nap. [:D]

Thanks IM for answering.  I am thinking I am gonna make a post hey... it all stems from a random post on the s-forum which got me thinking 'wow' for the past couple of weeks and I have hesitated posting because I thought it was just all me... meh - but now you posted the above I know it's not! This makes perfect sense to me. Thank you for putting it so eloquently
