I know at times this is scary and frustrating for you...
Look at how far you have come since september....
On your worst days try not to lose track of that.

angelikaJ,
I tell myself this daily. Thank you for reminding me.

ahh Dear MoGa---My heart goes to you----actually( at least in North Carolina)--the higher rent is for the upper floor---in a two story apartment building as that gets you away from the noise in the ceiling of the floor above---though I will tell you---even that is uncommon----

As for handicap access--- that is not required as it is a private residence, not a public building, so one has the choice to be there or not--although they ARE mandated to take a guide dog--yet you are there at " your own risk" as they say.  Now given thay, ( from My experience with Mom)---many complexes have 1-2 apartments fitted to the handicap or they CAN do the fitting at no extra cost--( its good for their community rating)-- she was  a tad stooped and could not always stand balanced---so she got a nice ground floor with lowered counters, double rails in the master bathroom and a few other handicap ammenities---

btw---you can as for tub rails and they have to supply those free-regardless----

however, no complex is obligated to rent to the handicap of they think their facility could be held liable for something---the more reputable ones ( and reputable does not always mean expensive)---do---I suggest like FangsnFeet---and I am sure yoiu did this--call and ask about handicap accessible for blind--but sadly as well--a dollar is a dollar and I doubt that rent will be lesss-----

I am sorry Dear Lady---

M,
I asked about handrails in the bathtub and they told me I can have it professionally done by a contractor, but whatever is done will be at my own cost.
I can't wait to come and visit you and A! I will not have a guide dog by then, but I will have loads of Mobility training.

Hugs!

I would go through public local government offices to assist you. They have apartment buildings designed specifically for the disabled. If you are now on permannet disability then even more so. I know someone who is a parapalegic who is in an apartment building that includes assistance. I know blind and parapalegic are not the same thing but I would check into local help.

I wonder how your program deals with bad grammar and typos. I am making a bigger effort to watch my p's and q's now! *WINK*

Oh lusciouslips, it is hysterical sometimes. Ask Lady Hathor lol it has messed her words up the most. I am left baffled as to what she had said, I have to repeat it and it's so unlike her to say some of the things that JAWS said she said lol

Termyn8tor! I should rap your knuckles you silly boy---blind accessible programs for the computer have been around for 20 years now--in fact I was the first one in the country to hire the blind to be telemarketers when I was on contract with IBM and we used large screens and  program enlargement for the legally blind and voice activation for the blind---we workeds for two years and were very successful--its only that I adore you that makes the knuckle rap light--smiles

Yes MoGa--you are coming here, though it takes little mobility to get the martini galss from the hand to the mouth---seriously, Tooties and I are very good at the clock--smiles--and I know you know what that is---so I just want your sister to put you on the plane and we are good to go, I so want to see you---and so do the horses---and the bevy of boys.

Well the Mistress and I chat everyday and when She is down, I take it on Myself to maker Her laugh----heh--jaws is My conduit---you see, he speaks in a monotone-- ( though it has 6 voices,  but the sexy chick doesn't work for us--lol)--so when I am ornery, I make JAWS say things like a boy would---remember it is speaking back to her--and then we get the giggles so much, the typing gets bad and well---ahem SO one night I said, well it reads whats typed---so if I meant so say:

" I passed my cooking test" and I had typos, well it can come out: I assed my cocking test!

LMAO, so we get silly--and I am the head Domina jester---lol but it is fun and yet it is a godsend as it keeps the connection--yet it isnt cheap either---

I had brain surgery a year ago (aneurysm). It is then that my problems began. When I came out of surgery, I saw faces but they were "monster" faces. Very oblong and deformed. It scared the shit out of me. Very frightening. It took about 3 months for that to stop. Then I started seeing a hazy purple when I went outside. When I came back in, it would take a good two minutes for me to see. It was all black. I went through 4 months of that. My doctor kept saying that I was losing my eyesight. He said between my visit in August and my visit in Sept. I had lost 85% of my sight.
It was discovered that I had a tumor in my pituitary gland, which leads to the optic nerve. I went to the hospital for surgery again, but they found no tumor. Strange, but true. What they did find, was evidence of "Mini" strokes. That coupled with the 33 years of smoking (I quit 4 years ago) and I have very small veins, they discovered that the blood flow to the optic nerve had been shut off for short periods of time. It caused enough damage for me to lose my sight. It took a matter of 3 months for me to lose it all together. Thank you for asking lusciouslips. I don't mind talking about it now. In fact I was in such denial that I joked about it all the time. I guess I am no longer joking.

its standard practice to charge a bit more for ground level only becase people that is all people who may rent it will have it a bit more convenient than those who have to climb a set of stairs.

it is not directed against you.  now if he wanted to charge you 700 bucks then I would agreee with you.

I am also “handicapped”, {born missing my left fore arm}…  Life is life; you take it as it comes…

I am forced to drive and automatic transmission cars because of my disability…  Stick shift cars are much less expensive…  By law, I am not allowed to drive stick shift…  Oh well, life will go on…

There isn’t anything that I can not do, unless I do not want to… I have been a server {waitress} 21 years…  I love a challenge…

I know it is not your fault that you went blind, nor is it anyone else’s fault… when I need a glove; I still have to buy two…  The only thing that I do get a discount on is when I get my nails done… {lol, lol}

Not to be a smart ass, but when dining out, white on right... in other words, white sugar, salt… All restaurant are supposed to do that, but not everyone does, they also carry brail menus, {again, they are supposed to}…

I am sorry you lost your sight and it must suck for you right now... However, pick your battles…

Dear MoGa,

I cannot even begin to understand the difficulties you face, the moxie you show in ensuring the disability you suffer with does not incapacitate you is inspiring.

When I rented an apartment in Austin ground floor apartments were more expensive (also according to location on each campus) as opposed to the apartments on upper floors. It's also the same in the UK where ground floor flats offer easier access to carparks, etc... so the building proprietors charge far more than they would for upstairs flats as there's always a little more inconvenience expected. We also have something here called Warden Assisted Accommodation, which is meant for the elderly (you're not heading there anytime soon, I know!), less able-bodied among us and those who are visually impaired. Is there something of an equivalent in the US? The ONLY reason I mention this is that such accommodation is subsidised, but perhaps some financial assistance would be available to you in any case regardless of abode. What I did find very disheartening about your OP is that one moment the Manager was all for leasing a property on the ground floor, until she became aware of your walking aid coupled with the enquiring about differences in leasing prices.

As for my friend, we began corresponding after contacting one another via B.com, however, we lost touch and while I have made attempts to contact him all have remained fruitless. I hope he's still gripping life by the balls and refusing to allow anything to deter him, and I wish the same for you too.

Even worse, MoGa. I'm not sure why this is, but I have encountered a lot of people who wear glasses (all the time, not just for reading) and they have diminished hearing upon removing their spectacles... how in the hell does that happen?!? lol
