lusciouslips19 -> Do Men understand Women? (2/8/2008 11:21:22 AM)

So I said in another post that men dont understand women. I am not saying men dont feel or love and adore women. That is not what i am saying. The statement plain and simple is Men dont understand women(their emotions, way of thinking etc)

Arent there shreds of truth in general statements and arent stereotypes based on shreds of truth? After all, thats what comedy is formed on.

So I am asking you here, the Masters.....
Do you think men understand women?

I'm just going to the source for the opinions.

What, "understand" as in "know what it's like to be one? Of course not. I think of women the way BF Skinner thought of pigeons: behaviouristically. Action A usually produces result B. That's all the "understanding" I can hope for and it gets the job done.

Is this a trick question? Lean a little closer.

[:D] Lol. No. Its not. I made this statement and was told I was wrong, wrong wrong. I have been told by many that men cant begin to fathom whats on womens minds or why they act the way they do. Instead of arguing with another women berating me for sweeping generalization, I thought it would be best to find out from men whether I was (generally) wrong or not. I thought I needed to go to the source.

I don't think women understand women.

toservez -> RE: Do Men understand Women? (2/8/2008 11:49:42 AM)

I think men and women have a general understanding of each other when thought about in isolation but both have a terribly big problem of taking the two sexes and merging an understanding when they are interacting together.

The problem I see is too many people refuse to accept the differences at face value and whether intentionally or subconsciously refuse to change their own ways and expectations in these differences.

Understand woman, no way in hell.  There are a few pluses to being a gay male and one of them is not having to understand woman.  But then again there are times when I don't understand my boys eaither.

most days i do not even understand myself, why should a man be able to get what i myself cannot? [8|]

LaTigresse -> RE: Do Men understand Women? (2/8/2008 11:59:46 AM)

Some men understand some women. Some women understand some men.
Some men do not understand any women and some women do not understand any men.
Some women understand men better than women, and some men understand women better than men.
Some women are so fucking nuts they don't even understand themselves, and some men are clueless to where their clean socks and underwear are let alone understanding anything with a brain.
Some men are uber metaphysical and understand the meaning of life, some women don't care about anything that does not involve their little crumbcrunchers and their minivan. Some women understand metaphysics.

Are you seeing a theme here?

really good point. Its like me not allowing my son to play with toy guns so everything I gave him got turned into one, including his finger. Or when i gave him a barbie doll because he asked for one when seeing a commercial but when I gave it to him he looked panicked and he only played with it once. He took her clothes off![:D] Boys are boys and girls are girls. Oh unless of course they are girls inside of themselves or boys inside. Some say thats a function of the hormonal cocktail going haywire during fetal growth.

You should not that is my point if I was trying to make a point. But both genders in a relationship often want the other to change who they are to fit the other in a specific moment while often knowing in the big picture just how unnatural that is for the other but not seeming to care about that difference.

It is the women wanting to vent and talk out a problem at work expecting her man not to have a one sentence solution as his contribution to the topic even though she knows that is what he is really thinking and he says it knowing she probably does not want to hear it.

This was just an example and not about favoring one gender in this debate. ;)

Melvin Udall had it right: "I think of a man and then remove all reason and accountability".
Heh.

littleone35 -> RE: Do Men understand Women? (2/8/2008 12:54:59 PM)

Being a woman i understand women pretty well ( must come from having 3 sisters).  I don't think (no disrespect intended) that any men have a chance of understanding women any more than women have a chance of understanding men.  There is a reason the book Men are from mars women are from venus  was on the bestseller list for so long.

bingo.  I don't think people understand people and NO ONE can begin to fathom what's on another person's mind on most occasions.  I'm female and I've had more men have a better understanding of me than women in general.  It is a stereotype as are all these posts about men vs. women, women being bitches, men being asses and so on and so on and so on.  People understand people because they take the time to attempt to do so and the other person aids in that attempt and communicates, period, it's really not gender specific.  Too often "I don't understand women" is a cop out to work at that communication.  To assume that women understand women or have some higher bond because they share gender is just laughable to me.
