There are wonderful varieties from many countries, but are you referring to the chocolate itself, or prepared chocolates?  I think Belgium rates pretty high, some French varieties, some Italian ones.

And white chocolate is not chocolate, as we know, it's just cocoa butter with no cacao.  Save it for the suntan cream.

Okay, after the wine part.......I have to weigh the two. Best red wine and dark chocolate. Both are a requirement to keeping my positive frame of mind.

Dutch, but I'm biased.

There's a "chocolate museum" near Rotterdam called "de bonte koe" which is the best chocolate I have ever tasted in my life, even when compared to high quality Belgium chocolate (as opposed to the tourist stuff). All freshly hand made and you can look into the kitchen while they make it. They also have chocolate making workshops.
Delicious.

White chocolate, yum yum yum, dont save it for sun tan , send  it to me...... I'll share it with LA (lindt do a wonderful white chocolate truffle that is almost orgasmic)
pretty please wiv a cherry on top.
Suchard is my favourite dark chocolate, but hard to get hold of here, so I stick to white or milk chocolate
But Im not gonna spend oooodles of money on *couture* chocolate, altho I am intrigued by some of the other kinds people have mentioned.
Im wondering when Samboct will chime in, he REALLLLLY likes good chocolate.
Lucy

Tu parle francaise?

The best chocolate IMHO is Valrhona....it's amazing.   I will eat the 56%, but save the higher cacao content for things like mousse.

For "everyday", I use Trader Joe's Pounder Plus bars, which is made by Callebaut (Belgian).  I just used it to make dark chocolate cupcakes, that will end up: dipped in dark chocolate ganache, topped with a swirl of heavy cream whipped with white chocolate ganache, topped with a dark chocolate dipped strawberry, then finished with a light drizzle of milk chocolate.

Evil I am ;-)

Well, hate to bust everybody's bubble, but by far the most insanely delicious candy is from Australia...

New Zealand is a close second.

I used to live in the Netherlands.  I know Belgium chocolate.

I used to live with a flight attendant who flew to Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Asia, etc.

Australian chocolate wins.  Hands down.

I have kind of a reptuation for making over the top exotic cupcakes, so every once in a while I have to pull out something new.

The other kind I made are gingerbread with a mango buttercream (thanks Bobby Flay)

Kookaburra is one company I found doing a web search.   I have ordered a lot of Australian things online, although I am not a big chocoholic

http://www.candystore.com.au
http://www.fyna.com.au

Not sure how much it costs to order it, as I have not ordered it shipped to me in the States, but good luck in your search.

I have traveled allot for business and since i'm a chocolate addict i have tried it all over the world.

Australian chocolate isn't bad but nothing beats the stuff they have in some shops here in Belgium.
Now i don't mean the big brands or the commercialised artisanal tourist chocolate but the stuff you find in some of the small independent chocolatiers here and there.

They make an art out of chocolate making and it is just  a piece of heaven on the tongue.
