CalifChick -> RE: I hate it when........ (6/11/2008 11:47:24 AM)

Christine, I've basically given them up permanently.  I feel awful when I eat carbs, so the temporary pleasure and moaning that happens when I eat garlic bread, for instance, just isn't worth it.  And 80 pounds gone since July 1 last year ain't shabby either.

I do get some carbs in vegetables, and some "low carb" foods, so it's not exactly zero carbs, just really, really low numbers.

Cali

I wuv pie.  *sigh* ... I hate it that I wuv pie but I gave up carbs so no pie for me.  Wahhhhhhh!!!!!!  [sm=river.gif]

Cali

Now Cali...it is very dangerous to give up ALL carbs. The best carb reduction is to give up all white sugars. Fruit is an acceptable carb. Pies have fruit. You cannot SEE any white sugar in the pie...can you? Course you can't.
Onto the crust....when you put your fork into the pie a lil bit of crust may get intermingled with the acceptable friut. This is not your fault. Carbs consumed that are not your fault are negated.

Dig in...

christine1 -> RE: I hate it when........ (6/11/2008 11:51:36 AM)

wow Cali,  that is something!  [sm=applause.gif]    [sm=weightlift.gif]    [sm=bowdown.gif]

(can i cmail you?)

oh...instead of pie, i'll just bring a new kinky toy for you, i think those are carb free!

CalifChick -> RE: I hate it when........ (6/11/2008 11:52:02 AM)

Fruit makes my blood sugars zoom high then plummet so low that I shake and sweat and feel awful.  No fruit for me.

Cali

sirsholly -> RE: I hate it when........ (6/11/2008 11:58:09 AM)

wondering...in all seriousness...
Rain and Cali, were you diagnosed with diabetes while you were pregnant?
The same hypoglycemic crap happens to me but is much worse since i had diabetes wien i was expecting.

I was told diabetes was likely eventually...

Lord...she's hauling them to Maryland...

But diabetes due to pregnancy only happens...or should I say USUALLY happens when you give birth to a large baby and if you did give birth to a larger than average baby, they're supposed to test you after the birth.

LadyRainfire -> RE: I hate it when........ (6/11/2008 12:00:49 PM)

Yes, I have juice. Had a glass already. Had some banana bread mini-muffins as well. Now to deal with the after-effects. And wait for Lumus to get home to go to the store with me..... Sigh.... So much for our early dinner.

(I've been so frickin' good that this hasn't happened in months. Why now?)

he was a premie cause i turned to full eclampsia ...and he weighed almost 8 pounds. The diabetes took it's sweet time going away (almost a year) but the chances of developing it later in life are fairly high (as per the endo)

Do you have a glucometer to check your sugar level?
If not, go to the local FD/have it checked for free.

the aftermath of stress?

Dunno...but i would establish with a PCP as soon as you can, as well as with an endo if it happens again.

[&o] Diabetes is not a question of "if" for me but "when"....  I've been borderline for years and years and there is such a shitload of history of it in my families. That's why I'm so careful, so that I don't go over that border and end up on insulin. I have a meter and tested myself. It was low, so low that I'm kinda wondering what it was before I ate. And why didn't I pass out?

Yes, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, holly. However, it's not just a large baby thing. My first son was 8 lbs 12 ozs without a single problem yet my second son (monster #3) where I was diagnosed with it was only 7 lbs 11 ozs. And no, I didn't take insulin, much, during that pregnancy. I was planning on a homebirth and was working with my midwife....
