Whats that *old* saying...*If I knew I was going to live this long...I would have taken better care of myself*...

To little....to late!

I *THOUGHT* I was old at 30....

I was fortuante enough in  my early 30`s to have been able to do hospice work...THOSE people dying showed me so much...Hard to take life for granted...

Of course I can`t do *some* of the things I did when I was younger...I found MORE of that out last fall helping a man cut a damaged tree down -L- I told him get outta the way before you hurt yourself and tore cartlidge in my shoulder and had to have surgery...go figure.

I know I dont take the small *things* for granted anymore....what I thought I so wanted in my 20`s...I found I did not want in my 30`s...what I thought I so wanted in my 30`s....in my 40`s it had changed....after 50? Who cares!

To age with grace and dignity is all I....want and need when it comes to...

*Getting Old*

Thx...

We could use it.  All you kids bitching about 40.  I'm approaching 70.

Got a new artifical knee, so no kneeling and damn hard just standing up from a low bench,

Got two shoulder surgeries on rotator so no suspension

got a smashed triceps and torn tendon. Right arm and am right handed.

Got an enlarged heart chamber, hi BP and meds make me sick when I go sub state and ger the endorphines going.

But still trying.

Hell, I'm 38 today.  My Things asked me if that was old.  I laughed and said, "Are you kidding?  Mommy's just getting started!"

*it's all in the mindset, hehehe...*

I enjoy getting older, despite any joking about it I might do.

I feel sexier.

apologies to the OP...i do not mean to make a joker out of this thread...

Off you go, Holly...............................

MY apologies to the OP, Holly has always been my problem child........<sighing>
Now, back to the original topic, getting old does suck, but as the joke goes, "It beats the alternative"!!  I can do alot of things now, that I couldn't  when I was younger. I'm in MUCH better shape now than ever before, I exercise 4-5 x's a week, boxing, kickboxing, step, weights etc and I feel GREAT!  Now, on the flip side, my knees are killing me most of the time and I creak like Grandma Moses must have!  I once kidded my daughter about having a 3rd child, she was making me age faster than Mother Nature ever could! (this was last year and the baby has since been born) She in turn replied, "You're going to get older anyway, why not with grandkids"?
It's a mixed blessing for me.....................I'm enjoying my life so much now but I'm also making sure that I stay in my daughter/son in law's good graces so that I can have a room with them as opposed to a nursing home!

Sometimes I think we put too much value on living long.   Checking out early while a person is still a person and not a useless hulk seems to be a much better option.

There may be something to be said for "it's better to burn out, than it is to rust" (with apologies to Neil Young), but I'm determined to stay long enough to be a burden to my kids!  Oh yes, I spent their inheritance too!

there was an awesome song by Baz Lurman(?) called "Sunscreen". One line was "be kind to your knees..you'll miss them when they're gone"

i turned 55 this past March.  i found a couple of gray hairs about 6 months ago.  i call them "ultra-blond"

other than it being more difficult to lose weight and finding i don't like roller-coasters as much as i used to, i've had a difficult time remembering i'm 55.  Now, the good news is, i'm menopausal so i don't have to deal with the monthlies and i can't tell you how overjoyed that makes me!  Really the only bad part about being 55 is listening to people 10-20 years younger kvetch about how old they are!

When I was 21 I thought I was an adult that knew everything, 30 was a freaking old adult, 40 was just over the hill ready to die, 50 was dead, and 60 why are you still here around.  So here I am at three decades, and feeling exactly the same as when I was 20, except with more self confidence, more experience to do more in my life, jaded by some experiences, and still feeling I have my whole life ahead of me.  Funny how a decade goes by faster than I expected.. I guess a decade to a 20 year old is half a life time, to a 30 year old is 30% of a lifetime, 40 year old is 25% of a lifetime, etc  hence the seemingly faster a year flies by I suppose.

Not sure what the next decades will bring, but nice to hear people at all ages who are alive and kicking and not succumbing to the stereotypes...at least in attitude.  I think doing looking, feeling, doing well for your age is all you can ask...granted lots of variations in different life experiences may speed up or slow down different developments in our lives.  But living life to the fullest as best you can for the here and now for your age is best.  It will prevent looking back and regretting, or looking back and envying those at past stages of your life.  Also looking your best for you and for your age is a good aim, rather than comparing yourselves with those at different times of their lives.  And if you look better than those, way younger than you then you go girl/guy!

Nobody quite says it like Dr. Suess

I cannot see
I cannot pee
I cannot chew
I cannot screw
Oh my god, what can I do
My memory shrinks
My hearing stinks
No Sense of smell
I look like hell
My mood is bad-can you tell ?
My body's drooping
Have trouble pooping
The Golden Years
have come at last
The Golden Years
can kiss my ass.
