On most maps of the world that I have seen, Canada is a country in North America.

So referring to US Citizens as "Americans" is a bit pompous, since they (U.S. citizens) are not the only denizens of America, North and South.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

Wha? What's wrong with calling a U.S. Citizen an American? Citizens of Canada are Canadians, Mexico-Mexicans. What is the problem since American sound better then uh...is there any other form?

jm2k4,

I believe that how people see themselves is the only thing that really matters. The difference between a slave and a sub? You will get a different answer from each slave or sub you ask. There is no set criteria that makes a slave a slave...or a submissive a submissive. My girl? She's slave to me, sadistic and toppy as all hell with other women, very strong, very sure of herself, and not a switch. She considers herself slave. I consider her slave. No one else's opinion really matters.

I consider myself a world citizen. I live in America (The United States) and am happy to be here, but I am no better or worse or different than some chick in Uganda cooking a goat. I think that we should all get along, share our resources and listen to our planet.
But I'm also a tree-hugger.

PS-
Whenever a form or questionaire asks me what race I am I always put "other" because there's no little "human" to bubble in.

So are you saying that you would switch places with that Ugandan woman cooking her goat? I bet she would.

I think I understand the sub/slave concept, like a slave is willing to give more control to a master/dom then a sub would right?

Hmmmmmm. (I'm a girly-girl, you know.)
Seriously- I just think that we are all spiritually equal and that no person has more intrinsic value than another. And actually, I think Mz. Uganda and I would be scared to death to trade places. *eg*

No, not necessarily. I know some people who self-identify as submissive, but have much less control in their lives than others who identify as slaves. It's really all a matter of what label you and your partner(s) are more comfortable with for yourselves. If you want to call yousfle a pink chair, then that's ok too. It's your relationship so you can do it however works best for you, including the labels.

People from Canada = Canadian

People from Mexico = Mexican

People from El Salvador = Salvadoran

People from the United States of America = Statesonians, Unitiedians, ofians, or Americans, (pick one)

Personally I could live with united stateserite, but ...

(I'm a Massachusettean when it all gets boiled down.)

It may not be THE definition but it, from what I've seen, and accurate one and maybe others despite they're title give more or less control to a dom depending on the case.

No, it's not accurate, at least not across the board. It's accurate for some people and not for others. That was my point.

Try as you might, you're not going to find a standardized definition that everyone agrees to.

Nice post, Hunter.

I agree with you, except for the contract part. IMO slavery doesn't require a contract.

Because of the supposed connection between contract and slavery, too many people decide they are a slave, or have a slave--simply because there's a contract between them.

On a related note, I've never been able to understand the concept of a "play slave". Or a "TPE weekend".

Welcome to the boards,

January

a while back lots of people asked if we had a contract, we don't i don't see why, i mean if i wouldn't agree with the whole thing i could just leave, contract or not.
when playing, he still sometimes ask if he do certain thinks like sticking needles through my nipples, i don't like needles there at all, so sometimes he asks if he should to make his point that he would not do it if i would really object, but i think he knows full well that i won't say that he should not do that anymore. i may hate the needles and they scare me to death but i like the fact that he can just do it anyways unless i would start the discussion some time when not playing and ask him not to do it agian, which i won't. he gave me many opportunities.
i know he would never ever harm me, so i don't see why i shouldn't let him do what he wants, he won't go really too far

WOW What a simple question yet so hard to answer. I think its all a level of subservience that goes along with it. Maybe an attitude that they take. But a sub is submissive and docile, while a slave is subservient and owned. I guess IMHO a sub is submissive in the bedroom and in lifestyle while a slave is more than submissive he/she is obedient.

If someone asks what I define myself as... I say - me. If I have to put on the label then I am 'submissive'. But I am still obedient to One I submit to.

What it comes down to is 'labels'...

A Label is something (IMO) that helps people either feel involved or helps people define a difference or group, to try and understand it better.

I dislike labels with a loathing, because I feel they are confining and restrictive and dont allow anyone to be themself without judgements.

A supermarket shelf can be full of tins... each label helps define whats inside... tomato soup... baked beans.... chickpeas... but there is still campbells tomato soup and heinz tomato soup... they both have similar ingredients in differing volumes and both may not be to everyones taste... but they are still tomato soup.

The main thing that aperson needs to remember is to be true to themself and to be themself and not just do what others decide.
Everything is a guide. You just have to slowly taste whats out there to see if its to Your flavour.
A fool accepts other peoples ideas for themself. The wise take all the ideas of both the wise and the foolish, then make their own descison.

Here is a funny delineation via Miz Suz and Zanthia. A slave would willingly submit to castration. I assume a female slave would submit to a"clitectomy".

Sounds like my first marriage.

I think a slave is one who would consider that way in the future. (If I love my Mistress and we are committed, etc. why would I stop her? Am I not a slave until 8 years of marriage? [Oh, if she said she wanted that I would not be interested. If she developed that interest, then she is not the person I came to love anymore. If she lied to rope me in to willingly be castrated do I continue loving a liar?])
