First I grew up in the south.  When I was a kid I liked the Confederate flag.  It meant pride in where you from.  The term "the south shall rise again" meant that we wouldn't stay on the bottom in education or economics nothing to do with war or being better than anyone.  I don't recall having any racist thoughts regarding the flag or anything.  I did run into some real assholes who were huge redneck racists who said all sorts of things but there were generally thought of as uneducated by everyone that I knew.

Over the years, too many "hate" groups have used southern symbols and slogan to promote their hate-filled agendas.  It made me become leery of places and people that proudly show the Confederate flag.  I don't think I would put that flag up anymore because of the groups that associated that meaning with it.  I don't blame people that are offended by the flag, I blame the people that made the flag offensive.  I also feel the same way about some groups that are tarnishing Christian symbols by their hate filled attitudes.

i know wikipedia isnt known for being totally accurate-but this page seemed to be complete and showed many versions of what i consider to be the confederate flag.   the designs changed somewhat but almost all incorporated the x with the stars, which is the part seeming to piss so many off.  there is no pic on the op article that i could see....so my question is....would any version of this flag, with the x and stars, be acceptable to you?

Okay I have a really dumb question ... and I have read parts of this thread.... but I want to know if I am reading the quote right .. that the part of this whole thing ( besides the fact they are gonna put up a conf. flag ) is that it has an X with stars in it .... why does that piss anyone off.... its an X for god's sake ... and there are stars in it ???? I guess I don't understand ......  could someone please answer that for me .... I am having a brain fart :)
