just let her know that you're there for her

GoddessImaginos -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/1/2010 8:08:24 PM)

Sometimes there's nothing much to say or do besides just walking up and putting your arms around someone - but Steven's suggestion goes nicely with that.
All of a sudden, I want to go hug My kids. Go figure..

dcnovice -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/1/2010 8:11:59 PM)

Aylee, you've asked an impossible question, my dear. There's nothing you can say that won't sound like a platitude or worse. I'd probably say (after expressing my sympathy and offering to help), "This is the point at which I should have something wise and wonderful to say. But I don't, because there are no words can begin to touch what you're feeling right now."

dcnovice -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/1/2010 8:20:04 PM)

Another thought. Depending on the relationship and the logistics, you may not want to wait for your friend to ask for help. You may want to think about just heading over there, perhaps with some food.

KMsAngel -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/1/2010 8:28:17 PM)

myu thoughts too dc.

if she's geographically close, offer to go and help order tickets to get there, organise the nitty gritty. take care of her animals if she has to go over? make phone calls to people as needs be. call her boss and explain the situation so she doesn't have to go through it a million times.

it's those things that are so very helpful. just your presence can be a comfort and show you love them

Thanks.  The consulate is helping, although Nancy is losing a great deal of sleep.

If I am gone for some days, I hope that you all will understand.

Tell Bear that I love him.

Oh gawds you guys.  I just got the worst news ever.

A friend has lost her daughter in Africa in a driving accident.   She lost her son about 15 years before.  I do not even know what to say.  This sucks big time.  What do you say?
oh my.....it is beyond comprehension.

Aylee...there is nothing you can say to ease her pain. Let her hear the sadness in your voice and see the tears in your eyes. Let her know that she is not alone in her grief.
Reality has not hit yet. Her mind is probably in "efficiency" mode to allow her to get through the funeral. The worst is yet to come for her, and i thank God she has you for support.

ANGELEYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How are you doing, Sweetie? Things here are ok. It is amazing what you can do with one hand when you try. The fun part of all this is getting the LO to help Mom figure out how to do things. I give him a situation ("Mommy needs to fill this pot with water and put it on the stove") and listen to his try to think of the easiest way to get it done with only one hand. His answers can go from very serious to absolutely hilarious...he sees no valid reason for Mom to put a pot of water on the stove to make pasta for dinner when there is ice cream in the freezer. good mrning folkses. I am one verrrrry tired woman.. I have been at work for about 13.5 hrs, with at least 2 more to go...

KMsAngel -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/2/2010 4:33:43 AM)

the boy knows what he wants!

i agree, though, ice cream makes a suitable dinner. if you have peanut butter ice cream, there's your healthy side. throw some frozen berries or a bit of 100% fruit jam, and voila!

i like that child (but not enough to fly him over and babysit him) [;)]

KMsAngel -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/2/2010 4:35:00 AM)

PB&J ice cream covers the basic food groups...the PB is protein, the jelly is a serving of fruit, and the ice cream is a dairy serving with calcium!

You're not fooling me one minute, Greedy.  I know that women don't like men that shoot too soon.
