GT!!!

Mom is leaving Tampa today. she should be back here about 10pm.

Should I hide the breathing machine since I was thick headed and refused to do even one treatment for my pneumonia. I think she will use a switch on me.

When she gets home, I let her take over the computer.

GreedyTop -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/8/2010 7:29:02 AM)

dammit, girl.. I'd use a switch on you too!!

ShaharThorne -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/8/2010 7:36:01 AM)

I hated these machines when I was a baby (actually remember tearing up an oxygen tent when I was 1yo) and nothing has changed.

Besides, I have not coughed unless my throat and mouth are dry.

AYLEE!!!

See, I gots the computer for a minute and no one is here! Because you hardworking folks are prolly working and doing useful stuff, not like MEEEEEE who is wasting time chittering on the interwebs. Because the rest of the day is SUCKED DRY at a wake. FOOEY. And I cannot bring my knitting. And they do not have TV's in funeral homes, so no watching of the golf, even! Yeah, that sounds crass. But, I get to spend tomorrow evening at the wake, and Monday is the funeral, and there is a freakin LIMIT when it comes to these things. (I acknowledge my evil, thx.)

SO hope youse are all happy, and doing exciting things! I am looking forward to next weeeeekend!

Morning, gang.....how's everyone this fine morning?

I am okay, the other half is sleeping, and Butterhead is running a fever.  I do believe that the Death Star is once again on hold.

quote:

Aylee, yeah, I knew you were joking....unfortunately, I wasn't!  My ex was a terrbile mechanical fixer-upper......I wouldn't let him near anything that was broken!  I learned alot about fixin' things when he was around!  OY!

Oh, I was only joking about him breaking things on purpose.  He really doesn't fix things.  Years ago I had a catalog to some "Sun Blah blah" company that did all sorts of pins, bumper stickers, and t-shirts.  One had a man's face with the wording, "Don't assume I fix things."  I have often wished that I had gotten him one.  However this was before I even moved to Kansas.

Last year we had to put a new blade on the mower.  He had the blade but he just could not get the nut removed with my Gerber pliers.  When he cam in and told me, I followed him outside, looked at it, and told him, "Well, I would use a socket."  Totally blank look.  So I went and got a socket and ratchet and removed it for him.

But I think that what happens in life is that people with more experience with tools and such get short and pissy when someone does not know what they are talking about right away.  And so they loose confidence and are likely to make even more mistakes out of nervousness.  But getting pissy solves nothing when a person (the other half) doesn't know what I mean when I say, "Get me the quarter-inch drive ratchet."  It works better to answer the what with, "Get me the small twisty handle that fits on these."  But many people, some of my ex's included, are very unwilling to do that.

For example, it was only after starting the job I have now that I figured out how to use wire ties.  I knew how they worked, but I thought that I had been doing it wrong.  And so instead of taking two seconds to tell me that yes they do require a little extra pressure to start them, they were always snatched from me.  And ya know, that really does not help anything.

Aylee -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/8/2010 10:57:19 AM)

Hey there Lady H!

Oh oooodles of fun here.  LOL  Unfortunatly it looks like I am NOT going to be able to make it next weekend to the party, and I was SO looking forward to some time off.  Ah well.  I will figure something out and I will meet everyone someday!

Take it easy and get plenty of rest.  Try not to crack too many jokes during the funeral.  [:)]

I remember Dad teaching me things that a woman is not to know...plumbing, changing tires, working in a gas station, replacing a transmission, construction...I can do all of these things with no problem.

show me a sewing machine so I can use it for clothing repairs...I would get out of Dodge faster then sin.

I am still wondering WTH I got thru home ec classes.

Oh..and add to the list: 20+ years of dealing with computers, even doing repairs and making one.

minor typo fix...

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/9/2010 4:27:23 AM)

{sigh}  Aylee I know just how you feel......I was denied the time off for the big shindig next week.....I htought I'd gotten it, but we've had some personnel issues, and considering I'm not supposed to be officially counted yet, I'm being officially counted!  It totally SUX!!!!!

And my dad taught me how to do basic stuff on cars....the first "driving lesson" I had consisted of him taking off the tire and me putting it back on.....I've not once called to have someone change my tire for me....wait....there was once...I had a Ford Ranger, it was parked at the curb w/he driver's side front wheel un-lugged, and I couldn't get the truck jacked up high enuf cuz the curb sloped downhill.  As I was standing thre cursing the idiots at Ford who put bigger than factory issue tires on my truck, it dawned on me that I was leasing said truck, and it came with a service plan.  So, I dialed, he came, changed the tire, and I was back in business!  But hey.....I jacked it up and got the nuts off all by myself!

As for the rest of my mechanical skills, they've just come to me over time...I'm basically one of those who can take something apart and figure out how it runs, and then put it back together again.  Thank goodness for the Interwebz......that's how I did my own work on my scooter!

fluffypet61 -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/9/2010 5:44:25 AM)

Good Morning, Holly!

Good Evening, sunshine!

Good Morning, soul!

It's a little chilly here this morning, but i'm still going to walk downstairs and across the parking lot to the newspaper box to get a Sunday paper.

Then maybe take a nap.

DesFIP -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/9/2010 6:16:35 AM)

Aylee, found the tee for you. http://www.davidandgoliathtees.com/product/DETAIL/5966 But he might get a wee bit upset at it.

If I have a manual, I can attempt to repair things. But without step by step directions I haven't a clue. Because diagnosing the problem requires a knowledge of how things are built. And honestly even with step by step directions, I find many things require physical strength that I lack. Understanding how to change a tire doesn't make me able to loosen the nuts.
