Well, Phoenix, I could use a little more boring in my life right about now!

Yeah, I can relate to that...a friend of mine has twins and her life is a sleeping tablet despite her twins compared to mine (most of the time)...for reasons unknown to me she refuses persistantly to swap with me [8|]

Anyhow, mine is getting calmer at present, so I don't want to complain...

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/23/2011 10:07:05 PM)

Weel, I found a pair of sandals to wear to work......wrapped my toe all up, and off I went.  I need to soak it to clean it out, but I'm scared to.  If the clot comes out, I'm afraid it'll start bleeding again, and I can't stand the thought of that.....I'm already queasy.  There's absolutely no pain...til I stub that dang thing......I honestly owuld have thought that by now, it's be unbearable.  I think it's still numb.

Well, I gotta do it....wish me luck!

tiggerspoohbear -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/24/2011 8:25:32 PM)

Good luck Soul.  I haven't had the nail on my right big toe since I was 17.  I kept getting ingrown toenails and the doc finally got smart, after pulling it 5 times, and took out the root too.  It'll take a few months at least for the nail to re-grow.  Make sure to use gauze pads that are non-stick.  I had a hella time getting regular gauze off.  I had to soak my foot in the tub in hot water and pull out a strand at a time.  I learned that lesson rather quickly.

Hope you feel better soon.  I know how much it hurts at first, but the pain will go away.  I promise.

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/24/2011 8:54:38 PM)

I hope the nail grows back, Pooh.....I'm not looking at it too closely...I did soak it last night in warm water and alcohol.....wasn't a lot but man, I felt it!  And it "woke" the toe up....it wasn't hurting at all before I did it, but now it hurts.  There's a huge part of skin that was ripped back like a flap, but it stayed put.  I didn't gray out until I had to wrap the toe back up again.  I'm afraid to leave it uncovered because the surface is still wet and gooey......gross!  And I've been using paper towels to cover it......it doesn't absorb the antibiotic goop I've kept on it, and it doesn't stick.  Even the non stick pads stuck.....I don't use regular gauze anyway, so I'm good there.

I guess open toed shoes for the wedding next month are out.   No going barefoot either, so I'm going to have to find a really comfy pair of shoes....I hate shoes, and the first thing I do at home AND work is kick off my shoes.  I'm lucky I had the sandals....I dumped out a lot of my shoes when I moved to ge t rid of the clutter.  I missed them somehow....fate, maybe?

tiggerspoohbear -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/25/2011 6:23:57 AM)

As long as it's partially healed Soul, you should be able to wear open toe shoes for that wedding.  I don't even think about not having the nail anymore, but it freaks people out some.  I wear nothing but sandals and flip flops (no, not the plastic ones) from the time it's warm enough until it's getting a little cool.  I just can't paint my toenails cuz I know that would just look silly.  I can live without doing that, it's been 31 yrs now so it's not biggie for me.

I think at the time I used to soak mine in hot water and epsom salts.  I'd fill up the tub partway and put my foot in.  I've been trying to get them to yank my left toenail for years so I'd at least have a matching set, but it's a no go.

OW!  OW! OWIE!!!!!!   Root beer bubbles thru the nose are just as painful as pepsi bubbles!!!!!  You made me skeer my kittehs!

tiggerspoohbear -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/25/2011 8:14:03 AM)

Nah, it's not that bad because they do day surgery for it and anasthetic is involved.  And the happy drugs help too! [;)]

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/25/2011 8:18:23 AM)

Still......*shudder*......I probably should go to the docs, but so far, it's clean and there aren't any problems with it....I'm just afraid that if they look at it, they'll want to put stitches in it.  I'll pass out for sure then!  The skin will heal, and scarring doens't bother me, it's my big toe for heaven's sake...who looks there?

tiggerspoohbear -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/25/2011 8:29:32 AM)

Having carpal tunnel surgery was much worse.  They only freeze you and I had both hands done a year apart.  On those days, I wish I'd been deaf.  [:'(]

DesFIP -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/25/2011 9:10:18 AM)

It's probably too late for stitches so if it isn't getting infected, don't waste your money.

calamitysandra -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/25/2011 10:05:03 AM)

If the nailbed is damaged badly enough for major scarring you should go for the doctors visit, fear or not. Those scars might be a major pain (literally) down the road, when the nail is growing back.

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/25/2011 10:35:20 AM)

The gash is on the top of the toe, so it's not too near the nailbed, Sandra.  UGH!  What a mess.....I never do things halfway!  [8D]

Yeah, that carpal tunnel surgery is a bear.....my sister had it, they did her hands one at a time, but back to back.  It's supposed to be easier now than what it used to be, not so invasive, but I'm taking care of my wrists now to avoid that.  I also have tennis elbow from reaching and stuff on teh consoles, but for right now, the job I have, while it's a ton of typing, is giving me a bit of a break.  No reaching or stretching, so my elbows aren't sore.  If I get lucky and get the job that I've applied for, they have wonderful ergonomic workstations that are to die for!  Hydraulic desks, good keyboards and other equipment, computerized phone systems.......it's enuf to make your nips hard!  (Yeah, yeah.....but I have to get my satisfaction somehow these days!)

You've passed the window of opportunity for stitches.  I believe it's 12hrs once injury has occured.

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/25/2011 10:46:10 AM)

I figured as much...I'm just such a chicken!  I'm keeping an eye on it.....first sign of trouble, it's off to the docs I go, trust me.  My sis would kill me if she knew I haven't gone yet, but what she doesn't know won't hurt me!

I just can't believe I ran over my own toe, for Heaven's sake....my toe?????  It's not like I didn't know the foot was there, but I guess the stars were lined up right...I yanked, foot stayed put and voila.....big time OWCHIEEEEEEE!!!!!  Altho, everytime I move I do some stoopid thing.....when I moved from AZ to here, I fell out of the truck....not once, but TWICE!  Just stepped right off the back......duh!  Other times, I've done things like walked into the hitch, stood up too soon and banged my head....I'm normally not such a klutz, but me and moving just seem to be like Holly and cooking...a sure recipe for disaster!

LUBS to the Hollparts!

and even if not it would also depend on the doc/nurse him/herself if s/he would stitch or not....when I was about 12 I had a fall when I run to our group house (each summer we have a youth camp for 2 weeks, lovely in the middle of nowhere, where we sleep on the floor in the loft) and seems my fall was perfect not to miss a piece of glass, which slit my elbow flesh for quite a length...I tried to just go to the bathroom to wash it off but couldn't as it was closed for cleaning...so I knocked at that kitchen staff to use their sink and then never managed to get out of there until they organised a check at the doc [8|] as one of them was a nurse [8|]

Thankfully my GP at that time was out of reach (it was about 10pm but that GP often does work until midnight and even later) as he stitches everything....and I mean everything....so once my group leader got back to that house (she just had spend all day at the hospital with a classmate from my group) she could just go off again to the hospital with me...and thankfully they didn't stitch me and just used certain plasters to press the wound together again and gave me a tetanus injection...a day or two later she dropped me off to my GP and gosh you could see the disappointment on his face that it didn't get stitched...whereas I was just glad it wasnt stitched [:)]

But glad to hear you are able to get a check up soul, as I am not aware in that aspect of toes [:o]

Just keep an eye on it and all should be well in about two weeks. [sm=flowers.gif]

Believe me, there is a reason (or two, or three...) I know.

ShaharThorne -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/25/2011 5:22:35 PM)

Hey there everyone.  I have been a wee worn out so I stayed close to the bed.

Mom brought a pizza home and I only eat a half of a slice.

I think my body is ready to submit to a liquid diet before I have to visit the surgeon in a few days.

I wish the office can call me in a few days so we can get the details ironed out.

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (5/25/2011 7:01:02 PM)

Good luck with the procedure, Shar.  A woman I worked with in IL had it done, and it was amazing...she lost over 100 lbs in the 6 weeks before she came back to work.  She was actually walking without limping, and she said her knees and hips felt brand new.  She probably topped out at 450 or so.  It was either have the surgery or die.....her doc just laid it out on the line for her.  She figured for the sake of her two boys that it would be worth the risks.
