ORIGINAL: jlf1961 Uh Aylee, MRE's are more stable, last for years, and more nutritious. MRE's are great if you are a six foot tall, 19 year old GUY. Five-two female, not so much. Too many calories. Not to mention the mold and botulism. I never ate one of those nasty things......my ex's brother had a dog that would eat ANYTHING.....but when he was given the MRE meal, the dog turned his nose up at it and walked away. That clinched it for me! Even the racoons in the woods wouldn't eat the damn things! Our unit got a bad batch once, every one of them were all moldy, and the main course meal packets were all bloated from bacterial poisoning. Fortunately, every CO I had in the Guard and Reserves loved "Pogey Bait", so the Operations Section had REAL food in the field.....we had a small Hibachi griil, sterno cookers and coolers for our soda! I don't know why it was called Pogey Bait, but it means real food, and of course, the requisite junk foods also. I was the section cook, too! We ate goooooooood! [:)]
