ORIGINAL: DesFIP Plus the fact that none of the locals know how to drive in winter weather. The Man used to live in New Mexico and tells a story about a half hour traffic jam that was caused by a ten foot patch of ice at the intersection. Nobody knew how to cross it. When I was about 7 months pregnant, we were living in Austin Tx. It snowed there, about 8", and the locals had no clue! I was stopped at a light on maybe a 5 degree incline, about the 5th vehicle in line, and finally gave up, pulled over and started telling these idiots how to drive in *koff* snow *koff*. The road was just lightly, and I mean LIGHTLY iced over because of the traffic, and these people just sat there spinning their wheels. First, I told them to downshift...the common reply was "but I'm driving an automatic!" Um.....what do folks think the 1 and 2 are?????? So once I explained that to them, I directed them onto a cement divider that still had snow on it, got them moving, and then finally went on my way. 7 months pregnant and in my dress green Army uniform......but I needed to get to drill! Of course, the rest of the unit was 3 hours late.....something about not being able to drive in the snow! :) Lordy, lordy, lordy! I lived farther away from the unit than anyone else did! Of course, I grew up, and learned to drive in, Upstate NY, right in the middle of the Lake Effect belt.......8" of snow ain't nuttin, baby!
