Vasectomy won't affect Your sex life, except as mentioned earlier, You may enjoy it more since there will be no more worry about pregnancy, though You'll need to use protection for a period of time after the surgery until tests show no more sperm remain in Your ejaculate.

As for complications, the usual risks apply.....risk of infection, bleeding and swelling.  The swelling can be minimized with ice packs applied to the scrotum.  Also bring an athletic supporter to wear home.  To decrease the risk of excessive bleeding, don't take aspirin, Ibuprofen or other NSAIDs two weeks before or after the procedure.  Follow Your doctor's instructions regarding care of the incision site to prevent infection.

Good luck!

So Asher?  If you get the big V done, does Phin have to get one too?  After all, you collectively make up Phasher...

I'm thinking Phin gets the left nut done, and Asher gets the right nut done.

It's great having microscopes in the workplace, ain't it???   I did the same thing with a couple of guys I dated, just to be sure.

Actually, I was living on Grand Cayman and working as a journalist at the time.  Fortunately, I'd done a few stories on the MRCU (mosquito research and control unit) and Marco Giglioli, the director, reluctantly allowed me to use one of the Unit's microscopes.  (After, I might add, almost falling off his chair when I told him for what I wanted it .--- He did specify that the sample be produced "elsewhere.")

The only other microscopes I knew about on the island were at the "International College of the Cayman Islands" and they were guarded like cruise missiles lest one of them vanish.

cool

my biggest concerns are the risk involved, and the lack of sex (Im 21, almost 22, lets just say my sex drive is in full swing :P)

My spouse was trying to have sex with me the same day as surgery while holding an ice pack on his scrotum.  I just laughed and kept telling him I wasn't risking anything.

Seriously, though, it heals fast and with little pain.  He expressed never feeling any actual pain (note the booty-seeking mentioned above), just a pressure sensation that the cold pack helped.

The only two things we've noticed, and in speaking with others have found are very common, are:

1) his libido got higher starting almost directly after surgery, he was only 26 so it's not saying much but we've heard repeatedly from others older that "it's like he's 18 again!" and years later it stays the same.  No solid medical reason for it to be so, so I've no explanation, but it's something that happens with a fair number.

2) after the "system cleaning" period and then some  more over time the ejaculate gets thinner and more snotlike.  There is less thickness and it's more runny.  Seems like there's more of it, too, or perhaps it's the same amount but spreads out more due to the consistency change.

A friend of mine had His done.  He didn't have much pain at all.  Took Tylenol for the pain.  Did have to go back in with a sample about 6 weeks after to check to make sure it took.  Also had to cum about 30 times between the procedure and the recheck, per His MD's orders.  It also did not effect His sex drive, if anything, it made Him more sexual because He had no worries.
i am pleased to say that i got to help Him abtain His "sample" the day He had to take it back to the MD. yay me

Good morning Asher,
My husband had one done nearly 30 years ago in the military. He went in, had them clipped and went back to work on the ship a week later (they do swell and you might have some bruising around the sac and thighs). And it is reversible so if you change your mind. 22 years after having it done we had it reversed-same military hospital no less!-and even though they told us that chances were-risks-(I was 23 , he was 53)blah blah blah...he again walked out fine if a bit sore. I got pregnant in 96, 98, 2000, 2002, and 2007. So no worries, just insist that if you want it-they DO it..otherwise they will try to talk you out of it due to your young age. Good luck!!
Very truly,
Zechriel

My ex husband had it done, easy peasy no pain for him. I do suggest that you shave carefully beforehand, that was the only problem he had. The nurse was new and inexperienced with shaving balls!!
He had to get tested about 2 weeks after for sperm wiggly count but thats all.

I have to say it made our sex life A LOT more fun! And spontaneous. Uhhuh.

So, I am looking at getting a vasectomy, and I wanted to hear from other people that had the procedure done/medical types that know... what are the risks, what kind of things should I keep in mind? Any advice would be most appreciated

My ex (still my husband then) had the procedure done about 1982.  Following the procedure, some 3 months later, they tested his cum and declared him sterile.

We stopped using birth control and i was pregnant the very next month.

True story.

I had one when I was 25. Simple outpatient procedure. Ask your doctor how he does the procedure. Smart docs cut the tube(s) - you may have one and you may have two, bend them back and then tie them off. Any time you cut something in the human body its tendency is to grow back together. Bending the tubes creates blunt edges that won't do that and result in a much lower failure rate. I have done substantial field testing of mine.

He will be cutting a six foot long tube six inches from its starting point. As others have said, you will need to continue to use birth control until he declares you sterile by examining a semen sample. I believe he told me to come back after 15-20 ejaculations. I surprised him at his office three days later. Just kidding.

I had very little swelling and minimal discomfort. Had it done on a Friday morning. Probably was being a little careless but I was having sex 48 hours later. Complications sometimes occur but they are the exception.

Your hormones enter your body via bloodstream so this procedure has zero effect on your libido... well, it's probably gonna kick it up a notch since this is one less worry. I know that's how it was for me.

Reversing the vasectomy is a crapshoot. Some can be reversed over a decade later and everything still works while others can be reversed after only a year or two and the man will still be sterile. When you have a vasectomy there are antibodies that begin to work on the testes rendering them incapable of producing fertile sperm. The time it takes for this to happen varies widely from one man to the next. The doctor can reverse it and guarantee you a fairly healthy sperm count but he cannot guarantee that they will be fertile sperm.

I think that about covers it. Good luck.

the biggest setback will be if my insurance wont cover it

Back when I had mine done most insurance covered it but that was a long time ago. They'd rather pay the relatively small fee one time for a vasectomy than pay the much larger fees involved in childbirth and beyond.

sweet, I am feeling much more confident about this now

a friend of mine was claiming that it was as painful as breaking a bone... got me thinking back to shattering my kneecap in Basic, so I was a lil worried

it depends on the bone.  collarbone hurt a LOT less than the kneecap or the foot.

my ex got the snip...i was under 21 so i had to sign for it too (he was active duty military).  he "persuaded" me to sign...  he was healing fine with no problems, till our daughter climbed into his lap wearing cowboy boots (she was 2).

other than that amusing incident, he didnt have any issues.

Invest in several bags of frozen peas. They are perfect for keeping the swelling down

I've had broken bones.and I've had a vasectomy. As long as you don't let your friend's doctor do the procedure you'll likely have no worries.

My hubby had this done approx 2 years ago. He had some bruising but was back at work the next day (think he didn't want others to know why he needed time of, lol). Aside from a little discomfort he healed up well, and when we got the neg sperm test back I went off the pill and our sex life is better than it ever was!

I've heard some people hurt for years afterwards. Much easier and better for her to have it done. Her sexual organs are not bouncing around outside the body. Also it is Major surgery to reverse later. Everyone I know that had a vasectomy is now divorced. Could be coincidence....

Do you really trust the advice of a bunch of Dommes who enjoy performing CBT? Given half a chance they'd have your nuts in a vise.

the ex hubby had it done and our sex life was off the charts after he was cleared.  he was sore for a couple days because he had "unusual anatomy" complications, no idea what they were, but it didn't complicate things too much.  my uncle called it a two beer procedure, one in the hand, one between the legs.  we had him do it because the surgery was much more invasive for me to have done and the recovery time was much longer.

My bf got one almost two years ago. He took some vicodin for a couple days and wore a jock with frozen peas in it, he was masturbating by the end of the week and fucking in another. He still has some residual pain- like blue balls but worse. The doc says it's common in younger men because of the high rate of sperm production- it has nowhere to go so it can actually build up, move around in the plumbing and be uncomfy. We're just a little more careful with his balls (not a bad thing) and as long as he's getting off on a regular basis there are generally no problems. I would recommend taking your time afterward. I think my bf had some extra pain and swelling because he went back to work in a week. He should've taken another. I wish more guys would get this! Good luck.

It's more of a major thing for a woman to got through with this than a man! For men it's a day stay and just a local. Then recovery of approx a week, where as for a woman to get a tubaligation she needs to be admitted for at least one night and have a general anesthetic (which in itself can be dangerous) then the chances of it failing are far more than a vastectomy. Something like 1 in 200 for a tubaligation and 1 in 20,000 for a vastectomy (not sure on actual numbers). This is one of the reasons hubby got his tubes tied instead of me.
