Now, we have all been there, in line at the store, either in checkout, customer service, or getting or dropping off a perscription.

And there is always someone in line that just seems hell bent to get on your last nerve.

THIS IS THE THREAD TO PUT VARIOUS WAYS OF DEALING WITH THOSE PEOPLE!

Now, here are my favorite ones, and some of them are loosely based on fact....
1) Look the person straight in the face and say, "I hear voices and they dont like you, and if I dont get my meds REAL soon, I may have to listen to them."
2) Look the person in the eyes and say, "I used to go into a rage dealing with people like you, but the meds have helped a whole lot. Now if this line would just move faster...."
3) The statement "Please tell me you have not contributed to the gene pool, the human race is in enough trouble already." works as well.
4) Have a long, serious conversation with 'Harvey.' If you need a reference, check out the movie of the same name with Jimmy Stewart.
5) Keep turning around and looking past thier left shoulder.

Now, considering that I have been diagnosed with PTSD and Bipolar 2, just about all of the ones are slight stretches of the truth. Of course, with the voices statement, just because they dont see the blue tooth and realize I am on the phone is not MY problem, is it?

This is really distressing!

I actually KNOW what PTSD is and the DIFFERENCE between Bipolar and Bipolar 2!

PTSD isn't rare at all these days; it's diagnosed fairly often. Unfortunately it's often misdiagnosed because you only need to have symptoms for I believe 30 days according to the DSM-IV to be PTSD. Now, it may go away after, but it's my belief that true PTSD should be diagnosed with much longer periods of symptoms, though medication to treat the symptoms should be used before that. It's all a matter of prefference really.

Bipolar II is more serious though. The DSM-IV paints a bad picture of it (p. 392 for those with the book handy), though as simple as describing bipolar I with at least one Hypomanic episode unrelated to medication and/or another disorder and the symptoms "must cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning."

I'm sorry to go on that rant, but I find it fascinating.

All I was trying to do was to start a thread on how to deal with the people that go out of their way to annoy you in stores......

I mean, come on, none of you have ever looked up to the ceiling and said, "God, could you PLEASE drop a club in my hand so I can crown this sucker?"

How bout the lady that keeps ramming you in the back with the shopping cart?

Or, the kid in the game asle playing on some xbox or whatever who is standing in the middle of the floor while you are trying to get past?

Of course, let us not forget the parent of the screaming toddler who is DEMANDING that you get out of the way so she can grab some much needed dinner ware.

I was at the store the other day, and there was this kid on the floor, throwing a fit
I looked at him, and said, in my meanest calm voice "Shut the fuck up"
he looked at me, fear very evident on his face, and shut the fuck up
his ma, instead of thanking me, started yelling at me (ungreateful twunt!), so I said to her, in the same voice "Get out of here or im going to eat you both"

she ran off

it was great

I do appreciate your stance, but let me offer an alternative viewpoint

it was obvious to me, and the person I was with, that the mother had no intention of doing anything about what was her problem, and instead, while her child was screaming and being a nuisance, was looking around helplessly.... personally I believe people like that shouldnt breed, as thier children seem to become societies problem all to often, mind you, some people with horrible parents grow up great, and its possible the kid has a great dad or something, who knows how to act like a parent, but the mum was obviously faking it, and doing so horribly, someone had to step in and take action, for the good of the store

or, to put it more simply... the minute that your problem child affects my happiness, it becomes my problem as well, one I will deal with rather than sit by and do nothing

if ya really stop to think about it, whats really too bad is that she is too intimidated to stand up to her own child
if my daughter was doing something like that, you had better damn well believe I wouldnt be standing there like a slack-jawed moron waiting for a miracle to happen

the one that gets me is when i'm at a restaurant and the kids in the booth behind me on either side think it's cute to stare or pick their noses or whatever and the parents look over and think i should think it's cute because they do. NOT!

Asher.. I love what you did...LOL

What gets me in grocery stores is the people with a fully loaded cart that insist on using the 'express lane' (I blame this partly on the checkers that don't tell them to GTF outta the line)

A lot of checkers can't say that, they just have to smile and ring the idiots up. I have come to the point where if it is an overloaded cart I speak up. "Oh you must not realise that you're in an express lane.." and add a ditzy smile to it lol.
