Okay so Maybe that was not he best title, and i will probably get flamed for this but i hope not as I am trying to ask a valid question.
What religion are you and how has it affected your BDSM lifestyle?

For instance, I am not practicing any religion at the moment but was raised Epsicopalion (a christian denomination very similar {in the US} to Catholisism, but more open to adopting the views of others). However my beliefs currently lie more torwards celtic Druidism. Both the Christianity and the druidism have the aspect of the triple devine as god or all power, god incarnate, and god in self or the holy spirit. As Heinline would say "thow art god."
This is probably my real reason that i am attracted to The lifestyle. As a full empowered aspect of the devine esence I feel that anything that feels good between me and any of the other gods sharing this expression of existance is good to go. The only things I feel that are off limits are those things that I feel shame or guilt over. (After all the old testement indicates that god knew the sin because of the shame.)

And that is how my experiences with religion led to my intrest in BDSM and the scenes that I am into. Now it's your turn. Flamers please set your weapons to simmer instead of broil.

Sensuality and Religion

A sacred take on BDSM

BDSM AND Religion

BDSM and traditional relationships

There are a couple of really good religion debate threads if you care to do a search that I didnt link here.

If you are interested in the idea of Jesus and celtic mix then have a look at The Jesus Mysteries by
Timothey Freke and Peter Gandy

I am a disciple of God who does not feel shame or guilt or fear or loathing. I do however understand the truth of Gods love and acceptance. I am also aware of freewill and the choices I make affecting life as a whole. My belief is not why I am interested in BDSM. What and who I am was Gods creation, so in that sense, then yes it could be said that BDSM is part of who I am. I feel they follow the same principles, yet are completely seperate for some.

Devote Catholic...with many disagreements with the Church's stance on certain issues. So far i cannot see any reason why my faith or conscience would interfere in any way with my relationship with my One.

I'm a Christian, my Sir is a Catholic. We both take our faith very seriously and we don't feel being D/s gets in the way of that at all.

Pagan, Wiccan (37 years HP), Shaman, Cabalist/Hermeticist (Lodge Master) & Sorcerer. I grew up in a home which worsdhiped the pre Christian Gods of Ireland. My spirit is that of the Great Bear. The Goddess is my ultimate lover.

Born Catholic, decided to be Atheist.
I read The Bible and Kuran and lot of other literature on religions, but none is appealing to me - I am too arrogant and egocentric lonewolf to be religious.

Same here, but I usually say, "recovering Catholic!"

More power to those that have faith, if it works for them, but I don't want to hear about, have it preached to me, or hear how religion and BDSM are some how interlinked. If I hear one more story about the woman's place, in the bible, I'm beating that person with that big story book.

Atheist. No effect. Last relationship was with someone who was very spiritual. She was/is a Wiccan and a pagan.

I was raised Presbyterian, I'm married to a Seventh Day Adventist, and found that I disagreed with almost all of the 'organized' religions.

Wait a minute ............ (putting on my flameproof suit and picking up a blast shield) ..............

I feel that all of the organized religions, especially in this country, are way too worried about getting money and spending it to convince others to be like them. The Catholic Church is the richest corporation in the world. In Chicago, where I grew up, there was a huge and very wealthy Catholic Church. Only 8 blocks away was a small Catholic Church in a very poor neighborhood. The rich church would do nothing to help the smaller one. Even though they had huge amounts of available cash (bank account in the millions), they wouldn't give that other church a few hundred dollars to do repairs or be able to afford heat in the winter. Neither would the Vatican help them and they had(ve) plenty of money too. When I learned this (in 1959), it was a major turning point in my outlook on organized religion. I have visited churches from almost every faith in the last ten years and find a lot of the same kind of attitudes predominate them. I call it "The Pay to Pray" group and I don't have much use for them. I also disagree with the attitude that God is controlling everything we do or that God is going to punish us forever for not doing what the church says. And then there are the churches (most of them in fact) that say you can't get to Heaven unless you are a good Catholic (or Lutheran, or Episcopalian, or write in any specific religion). Only their way is the right way and all others are going to burn in Hell. I'm sorry but I just don't believe that.

I am also a bit of a history buff and I believe that organized religion is the major cause of every war that has ever been fought. And for what? Population control? The good of the church? The betterment of the people? I don't think so.........

So to answer your question (and get me off that soapbox again), no, religion doesn't really effect me and my BDSM side at all.

Being a devote Catholic does not make me blind to the Church's falings. It is an institution run by men, 2,000 years from the time of Christ. i am certain many clergy have been consigned to hell for their evil ways, and i am certain the Church is wrong about certain issues today. It is also possible to attend Mass at the same parish church for 10 years without meeting your fellow parishioners; we have no sense of enfolding someone into a church community like the evangelicals seem to do effortlessly.

i'm Catholic because it's my place in the world, spiritually; and the Church's failings are part of what i must accept and pray over. But basically it's just where i feel closest to God.

i feel my Dom will be a Man of Great Character and Honor, and nothing that passes between us will be a sin.

I feel that all of the organized religions......

In general I am very tolerant person and I truly believe in "live and let live".
But I simply hate the agressive ways Catholics tried to convince and convert me into believing. Not only once.

I remember last time I went to church some 17 years ago - it was my late Grandparents 50th wedding anniversary and I was pregnant with my second daughter 8 months. My Mother dear convinced me into coming to mass for "family sake".
Well, instead of glorifying their marriage - being together for 50 years is quite an achivement - it was me and my sinful marriage and sinful ways I bring sinful unbaptised children to this world that was babbled about for some half an hour.
So I stood up and said loudly "Priest, you can talk anything you want in your home, you would certainly have to watch your mouth in mine - but I dont have to sit here and listen to your bulls***". And I walked out of the church.

So, OscarHargraves, I must say I very much agree with you.

I've never came accross a rule saying "Thou Shalt Not Spank Thy Wife"

Both Musilim and Christian beliefs point towards loving and disciplining your spouse. The interpitation of the Kuran says that the use of a stick is ok as long as it's no wider or thicker than your pinky finger.

BDSM and discipline has been very focused on safty verses harm and abuse. For the most part, many couples who participate in BDSM and other disciplinary lifestyles are following the Bibles guidlines for relationships. There are your poly couples and your non married ones as well but the BDSM part itself does not go against any teachings in the Bible. The needs for discipline, love, respect, and servitude are taught in the bible and in most BDSM lifestyles that couples choose to part take in.
