Nope. Sorry, I'm not a roller blade nor a mud wrestling slam bam knock heads together kind of  Ma'am!

But that was good for a laugh.  Made me re-think the OP's title and got a great visual.

Why yes, yes indeed you are!  And a quite delightfully lovely pervert, at that!


And as for my preferences on the subject (Dominatrix vs Mistress, not pervert),

I am a retired Professional Dominatrix-- means that I used to perform services of domination, humiliation, etc. for a fee.  I have been a Mistress to subs in the past, currently am not.  When I receive emails starting out "Dear Mistress".... I try to gently explain that I am not *their* Mistress and they may refer to me as Ma'am or MamaD. 

But then, in the vanilla world, many times a mistress is considered "the other woman" to a married man......... maybe the two intertwine more than I realized ;)

Status: offline 		Personally, I use Mistress when indicating a specific Dominatrix (Dom, Domme, Domina, et al.), as in "That is Mistress Pearl, one of the Dominatrices I work with sometimes". For me, "Mistress" is a prefix, like you would use "Dr.", along with "Goddess", "Miss", "Madame" or whichever title that particular female prefers. Dominatrix and the related terms are more like adjectives, I suppose.

But as you can tell from the thread, everyone has their own take on the terms.

Status: offline 		Here in My experience of Aussie life, Dominatrix is a term more often applied to those who Dominate for a fee. And yes, it tends to conjure up leatherclad women who live in boots with whips perpetually grafted to their hands! I initially used Mistress as My nickname but then decided to reserve it for those subs I am closely interacting with, those for whom I have BECOME their Mistress. Others can call Me Ma'am (or Maam as Collarme's bot didn't seem to like the apostrophe when I created My profile here!). I would describe Myself as a Domme ... and definitely pronounce it Dom not Dommay (that sounds awful even though I like French as a language!). But yes, there are no hard and fast rules and this can be frustrating to new subs ... easiest thing to do is ASK and then be sure to do as She suggests! For eg, I make it clear that I don't like "Miss" and Master hates "Sir" ... so a sub who continues to use those terms is being deliberately offensive and doesn't last long, after the first initial slip-ups have been corrected and forgiven.

Which is not to say the image is unsustainable in the course of a session (who doesn't like to dress up a bit on occasion?), but I'm constantly amazed at the number of people who don't realize the amount of energy and planning that goes into pulling it off. I'd guess that is one of the (many) reasons people will hire the services of a professional: they get the meal, but don't have to do the dishes, figuratively speaking.

It's one thing to deal with a person who is at their peak and looking their carefully done best, in a controlled setting, and quite another to spend your time at the feet of a real, breathing human who will have good days and bad ones, variable interest in play, be tired from work, have to keep the kids shielded from part of her life to avoid the CPS, gets ill, gets sad, has PMS, and is sensitive to negative feedback.

Of course, one could always try to hire pro domme twins to work shifts... hmm...

Strictly speaking, it is what Latin would be if there were a women's rights movement in Rome.

There are some instances where -tor and -trix occur in complementary distribution, but for the most part, the two are not idiomatically interchangeable. A Roman would look funny at you if you were to use the word "magistrix," for instance, simply because a magister would never be a woman. Similarly, "crucitor" would have been quite valid, but going from -tor to -trix in that case would have caused jaws to drop to the floor.

It's kind of like patroness is a recent thing, compared to patron.
