Personally I would sing made up lyrics to the music.

Tough spot to be in actually and I guess the reality depends on the size and dynamics of the workplace. Some places, making waves ends up making it hell to work there. Other places making waves makes a difference.
It would drive me nuts unless it were fun gospel which I love.

Maybe go directly to the source and explain that the music choice interferes with working? It is too distracting because your teeth are getting ground down to nubbins?

i would tell the supervisor that you find his imposing his religious views onto you to be offensive. If that doesn't work send him a memo with a cc to his supervisor.

It doesn't bother me unless it is too loud.  Besides, it gives a perfect way to bring up any discrepancies between their behavior and their beliefs; ie "I'm sure as a good Christian (or whatever religion) that you would agree that we need to treat our customers the way we would want to be treated", or any other behavior you feel might be lacking in them.

I personally would suffer in silence unless it's too distracting to work around.  If it's too obnoxious for you to deal with, I'd say it's best to approach your supervisor quietly and let him/her know that the music bothers you.

If he/she starts to get huffy about it, you can calmly remind him/her that playing Christian music creates a hostile work environment for non-Christians and would be considered harassment.  That statement should, hopefully, forestall any prosthletyzing or attempts to "save" you.

If your initial contact with the supervisor doesn't go well, put your complaint in writing and send a copy up the next step in the chain of command.

Anne,

I had not even thought of it that way but it does create a hostile work envirnment she knows I do not share her beliefs we have had several discussions on it (she tried to forced the children to say grace once and have me lead it).

Depends on the music. If it was Fauré's Requiem I'd cry with joy.

Music is definately something that has to remain neutral for all parties.

My boss once played some absolutely, MOON AWFUL country music that I'd never heard of, and to combat him, I put on Dragonforce.

I told him his music was distracting, and he told me my music was distracting. From there we chose a radio station (that I just hate anyways) and found common ground.

Then, the people in my back area started playing LOUD Christian music, and I went into their office and slammed their door shut. They turned it down.

dance!   there's the moonwalk, running man, chicken dance, and breakdancing, tango, samba or rumba.  end each dance with "peace out - the WORD"  and cross your arms over your chest while making peace signs.

I would put on Christian music just to watch someone do those dances.

In the work place the only appropriate thing to do is ask they turn it off because you find it offensive and then if they refuse file formal complaints. However if you complain you have to follow through and if you supervisor is liked get ready for backlash because these kinds of things can get ugly and possible change rules that would stop ALL music in the building.

Trust me on this I don't like Rap and I complained and they did away with all music devises and I was the Douche Bag of the company and Hated by everyone. Today I learn to drown it out cause it really isn't worth it. What is right and wrong have no place when it comes to a Paycheck and I think the Paycheck is more important than my right to Not have to listen to something.

Think before you act but ultimatly remember that no matter what all your decisions will come with consequences that you will have to accept.

use the baseball bat under my desk and smash whatever it is thats playing the music.  if i get fired for doing that i can say he was verbally abusing me with religious music and sue for millions.  the rest of the employees will back me up with the same complaints.

it depends. they do this a lot on the buses (busses?) on campus. and it's not just music-- it's talk shows where they sometimes directly insult my religion (i'm pagan and they have a lot of christian talkshows on that directly attack paganism). sometimes i say something sometimes i suffer. i grew up christian so i like some christian music-- i love religious christmas music for example. if it went on all the time i would say something.

Is it blaring?
It really wouldn't bother me unless it was too loud for me to concentrate.
I didn't answer your poll because there wasn't an option for just ignore it. Suffer in silence didn't really explain my thoughts on the matter.

If it was loud, I'd ask them to turn it down, or do it myself.....if that didn't work...well, there's always my Meatloaf Bat out of/Back into Hell series......

Seriously tho, if this is an issue, then start out by first discussing it with your supervisor.  Yes, even tho it is Christian music, it does create a hostile workplace (technically) once you ask her to temper it.  Be prepared to follow it up the chain of command should she decide that her position makes her immune to your complaint.  If she wants to hear it so much, suggest she wear an earpiece or headphones, or she put it in her office and close the door, that way, no one has to hear the music but her.  I'm not sure what you do for a living, I'm guessing something to do with child care, as you've mentioned the kids, but what I would find far more offensive than her music is the mention you make about her pushing her beliefs on the kids and others.  Now THAT she has no business doing!

Good luck, I know this is a touchy issue.  I am sooooo glad that I work alone!

Imnsho some things arent worth arguing over
this is one of those things

now, if its loud enough to stop me from being able to concentrate enough to do my job, then I would talk to the person about it

but freedom of expression is there for all forms of expression, especially what you dont want to hear

Absolutely nothing. Everyone has the right to listen to whatever they want. People need to stop being so nitpicky. Life is too short.
