Please don't presume that all people who breed, especially the toy breeds are doing it for profit. The smaller the dog the more possibility that there can and will be problems during delivery, that a cesarean (not cheap) may have to be performed, that complications such as an embolism may occur and that special care needs to be taken during the pregnancy meaning vet bills (not cheap). Rarely in the toy breeds do you get more than 4 to a litter and the norm is actually 2. Not a high profit margin there. I don't believe in indescriminant breeding but you will find more offenders whose dogs have no papers, than you will among those who own registered dogs. Proliferation is rampant in "Designer" breeds, what we used to call mutts, and rarely are the parents AKC or other organization registered. Spay and neuter your own pets, I have all of mine including the pure bred Akita who was monochid and therefore not suitable for breeding, but don't condemn those who breed pure breds carefully and responsibly, otherwise all there would be are dogs from Puppy mills (often substandard to breed specifications) or Mutts. If you want to protest and stop indescriminate breeding and do something about it, there are many organizations that could use donations to cover low cost spay and neutering for pets and stray/ferals. poenkitten ( who has bred dogs (Danes) to breed standards and not those underweight whippy danes seen almost everywhere these days, in the past)
