Not all of the details are in yet... Just saw a quick news break about another shooting in Knoxville, TN; 1 killed 8 injured.

I am almost speechless, when it comes to these tragedies.  I am a very strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, and yet I have no solution to incidents like this.  I will hold my judgement until more details are made available, I just wanted to express my absolute disgust for folks that do shit like this.

Praying for those involved,
Thadius

Praying didn't seem to have done them much good to begin with...

What are churches, synagogues, temples and other places of worship to do?  Is it now necessary to have metal detectors and armed security guards at the doors?  Horrible, absolutely horrible...

I just don't get this at all.  I doubt the real reason will ever be found out.

I just hope this is not used by anyone, to once again "make sure something like this never happens again"

The sad fact is that this is one of the prices we pay for our rights.  I don't think there is anyway to stop this, when someone decides to do this, there is very little anyone can do to stop them.

This kind of shit seems to occur every couple of months or so. It sucks, but it's an obvious consequence of a liberal gun policy. *Shrug*. I'm getting jaded, not out of being cruel, but out of the lack of action over what, to me, would be an obvious start to a solution to this problem: at least, regulate and monitor gun ownership a little bit more.

Not to get off track, but do you honestly believe that even if we were able to remove all legally owned guns from the world, that gun violence would end?

Do the United States have a high level of gun violence? Is it a violent society? I think the answer is 'yes'. Now, if there is a real political will to change that, it needs to start somewhere, doesn't it?

Why else would you have posted this thread, if it wasn't to discuss this particular subject?

Maybe not everyone sees this as a gun issue.
The guns are not going away, anyone 'bad' who wants to find a gun for purposes like that will no matter what sort of laws there are. They don't care about breaking laws. The people that care about breaking the laws are not the ones that need stopped.

You didn't answer my question though.  Would the removal of all legally owned firearms from the world, put an end to gun violence?

To be fair, some of these idiots would go back to using bombs and other things to carry out whatever twisted agenda they have.

A UU church? A stranger attack? I have a horrible feeling that I know why this happened. Those who believe in the supernatural should pray that I'm wrong.

I don't think it's the guns... you get someone in a poor mental state, they'll find some way to induce damage. They could run down parishoners as they come out of the church with a car, they could lob in an explosive, they could drop some bleach into amonia, and lock the doors...

The problem is really more the society we've created. We deify violence in our popular entertainment, and we foster paranoia in the populace. I know a lot of you guys detest Michael Moore, but I've always found the point of "Bowling for Columbine" to be pretty accurate: The US preaches to itself that violence it the answer. From the down and dirty street fight, all the way up to the White House's "bomb now, ask questions later" policies.

Whomever is responsible for this just plain has spiders in their head.

Of course not. However... Would making it more difficult to obtain a gun help reduce the level of gun violence? Don't diss it till you've tried it. What's YOUR solution, Thadius?

It is actually one of the productions of his I agreed with most of his points on.  I would even say that more spending for mental health care, prevention (early detection) as well as treatment might help a bit.  The truth is there is nothing that can be done to stop somebody that snaps and has a bug up their ass.

That movie "In the line of fire" made a great point... if somebody is willing to sacrifice their own life, there is nobody that is safe.

That's the same theory as, I shouldn't say I don't like to suck dick, until I have tried sucking a dick.  I suppose that is where my issues come up, I can't think of a solution to these problems, at least none that don't require stripping away most of the constitution, and I am definitely not going to suggest anything that extreme.

As far as I know a male with a shotgun. Unitarians are very liberal church, not Christian but spiritual. Maybe it will turn out to be a personal matter.

England banned guns in 1997 they have had more shootings than ever before. They are also experiencing a wave of murders by knife. Maybe they should ban knives also.

Mainstream media gives the anti-gun side all the time.

Thadius;

I agree with you.  Look at Chicago, it has strictist handgun laws in the country.  Yet this year the gun violence is the highest it has ever been. The Gov and Daley are fighting on how to solve it so nothing happens.

Gun laws just restrict honest people from owning guns.  I don't think criminals waste their time filling out the paperwork required to purchase a gun here in Illinois, nor do they wait the required 3 days for the FBI check to make sure they not a felon

More laws will not solve this problem.

Yeah, and  America has the most liberal gun laws in the world, and we "have had more shootings than ever before. "

How does that work?

"Mainstream media gives the anti-gun side all the time."

Exactly what does that mean?You`re keeping track,...w/ a timer?lol

Apparently, the ass wipe targeted the UU church because of it`s liberal beliefs.

It wasn`t personal.It was political.
