It seems as if there is alot of discussion lately of crafts lately, namely crochet and knitting. I am admittedly, a HUGE knitting geek and terribly curious to see what projects people were working on or wanted to work on.
Myself, I am creating a queen sized blanket, the twist is that it is all one piece! I really want to work on this next.

Phewwww, I am so glad this thread really is about knitting and crocheting. That was my first thought, and not some kink like needle play. *blush*

Me, I'm working on a little something for Gwyn, then I'm going to be working on some projects for a little something called the Ravelympics. I'm a huge knitting and yarn addict, also I was just learning to spin when I moved out to Lumus. I really want to continue spinning but we don't quite have the room for it here.

I've always wanted to try my hand at spinning! The possibilities would be endless. I've seen yarn made from some pretty unique fibers like dog hair even. I think there are smaller wheels that fit onto tables.

The lady I took lessons from had quite a variety there and even if some are small enough to store on a table, when working them, they all go on the floor since they're powered by your foot on the treadle. This probably sounds like blasphemy but I actually found spinning more fun than knitting! In the class, we got use different machines so you got a feel for them and which ones you liked and which ones you didn't. Expensive didn't necessarily mean better. One of these days I'll get my wheel and start spinning again, I think it gets in the blood...

I am working on a dress to wear to the Renaissance Festival this year. Knowing me though, it will probably be next year before I finish it!

I am the same way, I started some projects for my sister when she got married. They just celebrated their 6 year anniversary. I have plenty of left- handed mittens and scarves that I haven't bothered to weave the ends in.

I have a baby blanket that I started for my son when I was pregnant with him. It's about 2/3's of the way done. Ummmm, he's 20 now. Maybe I'll finish it for his first child???

That makes me feel better. You can always tell your grandchildren this blanket was *cough, cough* going to be *cough, cough* your dad's when he was little. It is the best kept heirloom!

Well Gwyn's baby blanket is half done, and next I have to alter this cape I made for a friend.  She is superplus sized, and I got the size right, but I didn't realize just how short her arms are, and that the sides kind of drag on the ground.  Dagnabbit.  If she would only wear the six inch platform boots, this would NOT be an issue...

I have this rigid heddle loom that needs to be used.  I have the yarn ready to warp the damn thing so I can make a stole from the Giant Stash of Hell.  The Little Voices keep saying "ETSY, slackass!" and if I don't make things, how can I sell them?

You know the saying "Lead me not into temptation"? Maybe it should be "Lead me not into ETSY or eBay" for some of us....

Srsly, has anyone sold anything on Etsy?  After 20 years of selling jewelry etc, I quit doing shows and fairs, and I do NOT miss it one bit.  I wonder if I have the chops to sell cost-effectively on the internets.  Sure, there are no show fees, but there is still TIME, and I think that craft artists consistently underprice themselves.  Of course, with most of our competition being SE Asian labor, that does make a certain amount of sense, but I am not a 20 yr old with unlimited free time and energy.

I make all sorts of crafts and quite honestly, if I was to charge honestly for my time and labour, not counting the cost of my materials, I doubt if I'd ever sell anything. Or if I kept the price as low as possible, which is what I've done, I barely make costs. I know a number of ladies who do crafts or sewing from home and while one or two might sell something occasionally on Etsy, no one has ever mentioned selling regularly there. The ones I know who sell things regularly either have their own website or are listed on someone else's site. Or just through word of mouth.

Not to say it wouldn't work....   It sounds like it works for some people.

Woot! A crafty thread!
I crochet, mostly stuff meant to be used hard and put away wet (big yarn or multiple strands, and a big frikkin hook). I have a special prezzie that I like to make for friends; a T-shaped blankie that you can wear whilst running to the kitchen to refill your drink/ get a snack, yet still covers all of you when settling back in front of the 'puter. I've made several and gotten rave reviews from the recipients.  My about to be started project is a baby gift for our lovely Gwyn.

I can only knit using a Knifty Knitter, as 2 needles instead of one hook messes with my brain, and not in a good way, lol

I also quilt, or did before the SO "lent" my sewing machine to a friend when I wasn't looking about a year ago. Haven't seen it since. I was taking a break from a jeans and cammies quilt at the time (ok, I started the damned thing 8+ years ago), and the top is still a pile of squares with 2 complete rows.

I like beading as well, particularly using boulder opal pendants as the focus of a piece and building from there (the local bead shop has a big bag of boulder opal on hold in my name, lol). I prefer semi precious or precious stones, although I'm quite fond of crystal beads, pure silver, and gold as spacers, depending on my mood.

I've never sold anything I've made, but lots of my family and friends sport handmade WyldWear, lol.

.
