I love that movie. in fact, a pic from that movie (of a fetish nun being subjected to genital electrotourture) has been my desktop background for years (since before the movie actually came out come to think about it). Untill just recently it was a real pain to find though.

Bull Durham features hottie baseball rookie Tim Robbins tied to the bed while Susan Sarandon asks him "Ever heard of Walt Whitman?"

"Who does he play for?"

Sarandon continues to read poetry to him all night, much to his dismay.

Later in the movie she has him wearing garters to improve his pitching.

"One Night at McCool's". Matt Dillon's cousin played by Paul Reiser in leather harness, leash and collar in the ending scenes. Earlier he gets whipped by the female lead - who's name I can't remember right off.

Swept Away

The movie everyone said was horrible...directed by Guy Ritchie, Starring Madonna. You have to have an eye for domination to fully appreciate it. I loved it and wanted to cry at the end. No wonder vanillas hated it. :)

Just finished watching Nine and 1/2 weeks. Great scene with some ice and blindfolds, but I hated the ending. And there were several instinces when you think he was going to spank her, cane her etc. but doesn't *sigh* Overall though I really liked it! Thanks for the list everyone! There's definitely going to be some movie watching at my place for a while.

PS: Secretary is f***in' awesome!

[:)]Okay, i have two examples of BDSM becoming more mainstream, although their not from movies, so hope that's alright.

First, does anyOone watch the "Surreal Life" on VH1? It's a show where they put has been celebs in a house to live together, kind of like a celebrity version of "The Real World". Anyhow, in the season they are currently showing, season 3, they are set up with dates on Valentine's for a date night and each couple goes on 3 dates that night. Now, one of the dates they go on, they go to a room in the house that's set up like a Dungeon and Jane from the Go Go's is the Dungeon Mistress for the evening.

The other one is actual from a Playstation 2 game, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. The main character has a gf in the game that is a submissive and he meets her in a sex shop where she is trying on a corset and garter for her new Master.

I didn't see it, but there was an episode of "Family Guy" where Peter and Lois are undressing, talking about how to raise thier children. They then start dressing in leather, Peter puts a hood on, and Lois' last words before she jumps on him are "Safeword is banana."

That cracked me up when I saw it. That show has had a couple of other references, but that so far is the creme d'la creme.

One few people get is kill bill, look at the way Bill and Beatrix interact. Also when he calls Elle Driver in the hospital how he talks to her and she responds.

MsSyren -> RE: BDSM in the vanilla MOVIES * news flash * (4/21/2005 4:48:09 AM)

BDSM is definitely making its way into the main stream... TV programs such as CSI, Desperate Housewives, and other shows are bringing it to the fore. CSI focused more on the psychological needs of some people for BDSM though, not merely portraying it as something dirty and sick.

Seeing the nose "NOT" growing on Shrek had me laughing wickedly to myself as I watched Shrek2 at home on DVD.

Oh and you forgot the movie "Bound".

And on the fiction reading side of things (ack apart from "Gor"..which I refuse to read on principle) you have Kushiel's Dart, Chosen & Avatar which lead you through the life of an anguisette "pain bearer".

Minor correction to the Kushiel's series. Phedre, as an anguisette, isn't just a pain bearer, but a masochist, able to get off just from being hurt. Great books, great main character, I highly recommend them to all fantasy fans.

I'm right there with LDnHisRose. I was always pretending to be Jasmine in that scene of Aladdin. I just saw Sin City, and aside from the big guns that had me juicing anyways, Jessica Alba gets shackled and whipped, yum. That was awesome. Also as an asphyxia lover it was nice seeing Bruce Willis with his hand tied behind him naked hanging from a noose. And the town of prostitutes is full of hot domme chix of every genre. I loved that movie sooooo much. I saw it in theatres twice. I was ready to rape someone afterwards, both times.

Lol....I think ya'll are overestimating the signifigance of Pinocio's thong. Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd have been doing the whole drag thing for decades, the whole men wearing women's underwear has been mainstream in comedies for as long as I can remeber. Bob Hope was doing it in some of his films...usually as a way out of trouble and not as a clothing preference, but still.

The Dodgeball thing wasn't really that signifcant to me either. It was a kind of "edgy" comedy that's popular currently (well what mainstream thinks of as edgy). I was more impressed with The Secretary with James Spader and Maggie Gylenhall (i can never spell that last name right). It wasn't entirely mainstream but it was pretty close.

By mainstream i mean that my local theater would play it as a matinee....I live in the deep South. Very straight-laced in what they will and won't play at the local theater matinee.

Boxing Helena

also the movie Real Men with Jim Belushi and John Ritter (a comedy) has a funny scene with a dominatrix rated PG-13.

If you see Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Angelina Jolie is quite tasty in her scene as a dominatrix in tight black and fishnets. She gives her slaveboy a little punishment just before killing him. I also enjoyed Lucy Liu as a dominatrix in Payback

europeanmistress -> RE: BDSM in the vanilla MOVIES * news flash * (6/16/2005 1:47:37 PM)

I believe it was the Simpsons who had a BDSM scene, with the whole family involved.

AnnaB -> RE: BDSM in the vanilla MOVIES * news flash * (6/16/2005 8:40:06 PM)

There's a horror movie: Blood Gnome, full of bdsm mainstream, because the monsters ate the blood from the BDSM people into blood sport.
Other old movies: Heartbreakers, a man (Ray Liotta?) being tied up and blindfolded.[:D]

SirPaulofLA -> RE: BDSM in the vanilla MOVIES * news flash * (6/17/2005 2:58:59 PM)

The Secretary wasa a great movie. they don't really fall into a BDSM love affair. He appears to be into that lifestyle. She learns that the lifestyle is for her. It was on basic cable the other night so you may not have to rent it. I saw it on video but I can't recall if any of the scenes were cut out or not for cable tv. His name is James Spader BTW..

Well, I have never forgotten that one...I still think it's pretty hot in the B&D catagory. We have a "movie' night at my Kink org and I've been asking to see that one for YEARS and they think it's too vanilla....

Well, that's not the kind of vanilla I ever got ~pouts~ ;)

Also, for you fans of 60's Bat Man...in one of the full length movies the Riddler is wearing a corset. It's pretty funny once you realize that's what it is.

MrKite -> RE: BDSM in the vanilla MOVIES * news flash * (6/17/2005 7:32:10 PM)

Hollywood has been portraying Bondage and BDSM in a negative light for years. Inm almost any movie these days there is a scene where the villain binds the hero or damsel in distress. If you look carefully at these scenes you will see some fairly good and erotic bondage. (Makes one wonder who’s tying up those stars). Recently I watched an episode of Law and Order in which the murdered victim was found attired in BDSM leathers and left in bondage. Pulp Fiction makes a large scene with a character fully bound in leather and tethered in a secret room of the basement of a couple of rednecks. Southpark the animated series has a number of kinky characters. I even find “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” to be demeaning to the Gay community.

In general Hollywood uses those scenes to depict violence or as a comic gag. A number of fellow posters have even stated that they got a chuckle here or there.

The problem as I see it is that in either case, Hollywood’s portrayal belittles a lifestyle that many of us take seriously. Those portrayals continue the perception that BDSM is either something criminals do or something only to be laughed at. Personally I take offense at this. Not enough to rise up and start a boycott or anything like that but I’d rather not see it used in that manner.

A generation ago African Americans were used in movies the same way. The only time you saw a black character was for comic relief or in relation to a criminal activity. The African American community eventually organized to change that. Tonight as I write this, I’m watching a movie starting Eddie Murphy. Perhaps some day there will be a character or an Actor who plays a role as a serious Dom/me in a leading role.

CSI did a few episodes in which one of the characters was a successful Dominatrix running a house of pleasure for her clients. This character portrayed BDSM as a serious life style and even educated the lead character (Gill Grissom) as to the whys and wherefores of the BDSM’er. A number of years ago the Movie “9 ½ Weeks) hinted at the BDSM lifestyle in its storyline. I still remember the scene in which the lead male character tested a riding crop on his girlfriend’s thighs in the Tack Shop.

It would be nice to see a mainstream film in which the lifestyle is depicted in a serious manner in which the parties involved are loving and happy. Hollywood in general has depicted people into BDSM as criminal or sick. That’s not how I think of myself.

Just my opinion, take it or leave it.
