ORIGINAL: LadyHibiscus ROFL!! I come back after the ballet to some great laughs! Wolfgrrrrl, I am SO serious........you and my former slave should be roommates, you have so very much in common! Anyway, back to talking about ME. The flipping download did NOT work, I was deeply annoyed. Seriously. {insert ferocious expletive of choice} WindowsME. The ballet was fun, but strange. I have seen Russian stagings of Nutcracker before, but this was not like anything I've ever seen. Very colorful, beautiful set paintings (lots of metallic paint and glitter!), and some superior costumes. There were some downright odd costumes..... Act 2 reminded me more of Sleeping Beauty than Nutcracker. Or maybe Swan Lake, that long part of the wedding scene, where the princesses do their native dances? Good dancing overall, marred by distractions in the background from pantomime animals (!) and the placement of the children. I love that they included local young dancers in the production, and they did a good job --there were some tiny snowflakes that were just precious, maybe 4-5 years old. The choreography was different, too, which was fun, since I didn't know each step before it came. Clara was a fully danced part, there was no Sugarplum. I miss dancing. which company did you see? i used to dance, too, classical vaganova. joffrey and pnb did different nutcrackers.
