I am already OVER the summer and counting down the days until October.  October is my favorite month - it's the start of the Fall, close to my birthday, beginning of hockey season...so many things. Mostly I love to be able to get the boots out and start wearing them regularly, and I'm so excited to see patent leather appears to still be very "IN" .....

Believe it or not, I hate to buy clothes and I generally disilke shopping unless it's for boots, purses, or alternative/fetish/club clothing.  Buying work clothes makes me grumpy and buying casual clothes also doesn't excite me much.  So I'm looking to hear what fashion tips other kinky-oriented ladies have, without being TOO over the top...

And I confess, I am having a huge mid-life crisis of sorts...almost being 40 years old.  I don't want to dress inappropriately for my age, but I can't help but feel attracted to outfits that I know are for girls in their 20s.  I guess I need to get over it :)  I sure don't feel 40.  How do you dress "age appropriately" if you are kinky, alternative, love tight and black, shiny things?

Actually, I have found legirons over those fur lined UGG boots to be sexy...

I work in a Women's Center where it is casual. Outside of work, I do enjoy wearing black, tight, zip boots either inside or outside the pants, or with skirts or dresses.

Almost any black, shiny boot can be worn with a "conservative" skirt. A "conservative" skirt can fall anywhere from mid-calf to not quite mid-thigh.

My humble suggestion is to experiment with combinations of shiny, black boots with skirts (charcol, pinstripe or skirt of conservative fabric) of varying lengths and "ass-hugginess."

This is what the hotties at my church do. Vuf!

Idiot... Call me.  I've got three new pairs of boots just waiting to be 'broken in'.

oh... sorry... I digress again.

My every day clothes are so dull they aren't worth mentioning.  If anyone here were to see me walking around the block they wouldn't even look twice.

That being said, give me ANY excuse to dress up a little and I'll jump on it with all my odd Domme flair.  The shoes make the outfit!  Whether I'm on my way to a St. Patties day party in a green toga and red pumps or a "Here Come the Mummies" concert in a black and silver 'ragged' dress and patten leather pumps with studded ankle straps.

For fall... I do have a lovely new pair of "Star Trek" boots.  Rather plain, only a slight platform and 3 inch heals.  I wore those to opening night of The Dark Knight with my blue spandex mini.  I have another new pair with 4 inch heals, pointy toes and 'laces' discretely decorating the ankle and top of the shin.  Very pretty!  Haven't come up with a good outfit to wear with them yet.  But then, I often start with a good pair of shoes/boots and work my way up.

I love my boots with skirts. I like wearing my brown swede boots with a pink tweed pleated skirt. I like wearing them with white knee highs showing at the top. The boys love it. I like my black stilletto boots with any skirt. They make me feel very sexy.

"Just do it!" I'm 44 and love the boots. Gotta be platform and at least 4". The worst way to age, it seems to me, is to dress like you're aging.

Besides you rock.

Fashionista rant incoming!

Your first rule of fashion should be -- no miniskirts after 35.  Doesn't matter how good your legs are, it's just inappropriate after that point.  Be careful when mixing black and red as well, since the wrong combination can make you look way too tarty for your own good.

If you're looking for a dress or a nice blouse my advice is to pick it up, hanger and all, and see if it's got good seaming (bonus points for princess seams) or a waistline.  If it looks like a rectangle, PUT IT BACK.  Being 40 does not mean you have to dress like you shop at Frump and Dowdy, Inc.  When going for blazers or light jackets for the fall, make sure it has structure to it.  Darts in the back will do wonders to really pull your waistline in and give you a svelte, sexy look.    You'd be surprised at what you can get away with that's still age-appropriate and yet really shows off your figure... and really doesn't look too much different than what a well-dressed 20-year-old would wear.

A nice pair of sophisticated boots (knee-high for shorter skirts or ankle boots for dressy slacks) are an absolute staple of a professional yet edgy wardrobe.  Pointed toes and stiletto heels will ensure that the boots are definitely sexy, but not too clunky or unprofessional.  Personally I hate anything with a big chunky heel, they remind me of Frankenstein boots.  I believe it's Dior that's really pushing the patent leather this year with their boots and clutch purses, but I'm pretty sure I noticed a few other designers with similar ideas for style too.

I'm sure these look much, much better "on"  but I'm going to dislocate my jaw trying to get my mouth around those heels.

I think the boots / skirt / suit look is classic or "strict" (vuf!) or both. I am a HUGE fan. I'll just bet if one crosses one's legs and bounces a booted foot you can identify the slobbering subbies by their bobbing heads. .

It's a fairly well-established rule in high fashion... and if Trinny and Susannah agree with it, that's all the confirmation I need to follow.  I actually have a shrine to them set up in my dressing area and pray to them daily to guide me so that I don't walk out of the house looking like total trash

That, and you have to look at it from my perspective.  I'm a shameless skirt-chaser and I have a thing for a woman with nice legs, so if she's facing away from me and I see something I like I'm all "Oooooh..." until she turns around and I cannot count how many times it's ended up being like some 60 year old grandma wearing it.  I call that false advertising, I do.

Well crap. I've already been told I can't have long hair anymore either. So I should get the short, permed hair thing, like saloned once a week and start buying polyester pants and Candies?

Kill me now.

Psh, long hair is fine as long as it's kept in a style, i.e. layered or something of that nature.  Hair has less to do with your age than it does with your facial structure and shape.  They do recommend lightening up your hair color a shade or two, though, to make your skin and your eyes really pop and give you a more youthful glow.

Screw polyester pants, go with a to-the-knee-length skirt and some cute pumps (kitten heels are way more comfortable for walking around in, I find) with a blouse that accentuates your waistline.  And avoid too many sparkles on your clothes, really it doesn't look that great on teenagers, either... and of course there's that thing about making sure your eyeshadow isn't glittery because the sparkles have a tendency to fall into creases and darken the shadows on your upper lid, making you look more haggard.  A-line flatters damn near everyone, pencil skirts are fantastic for hourglass figures and give a timeless, classy look.

My hair is lightening all by itself. The white ones provide the "pop." I should maybe cover them, but I feel like I've earned everyone. I've got a lot of hair so they just...gleam sometimes.

I'm comfortable in heels and I like my legs. I'd rather wear heels for comfort than anything else. I'm not stopping with the shorts/minis until my legs have cellulite or veins. No! I don't do sparkles and the only make up I wear is powder, eyeliner and mascara. I like fitted clothes. I'm not gonna frump ever if I don't have to. Where is this rule book?

I failed Fashion 101. The prof took one look at my biker boots, jeans and t-shirt and threw me out of class. <sob>
