True. But I think she has a not insignificant chance of landing the top job.

Or should we reverse that and say that Obama picking a man that has been a Senator for over 30 years is not really a sign of change?

I'm still undecided about that. I think folks attempting make changes in this little village of mine actually need to have some insiders on board, or they'll get eaten alive, ala the early years of the Clinton Administration.

Is anyone troubled that the Republican nominee chose as his running-mate someone who is under investigation for abuse of power charges.Seems her ex brother-in-law was fired as a State Trooper shortly after a nasty divorce from the Gov's sister.
Is this the sort of move to induce anyone to believe that a McCain administration would conduct itself any different than the Bush administration.Seems abuse of power is not a real issue to this Candidate, after a vetting they go right ahead and put this woman out there as the person to be "a heart beat" away from the Oval Office..
How can they be this arrogant

It's clearly a ploy to get the voters who wanted hilary.

Palin is being pimped to the disillusioned Clinton voters. It's not a very good for her career, because she is being used brazenly by her own party. God knows I love that women are more and more into politics, whatever side of the equation they're from: but she made a strategic mistake accepting this offer.

So a woman accepts a VP offer and that equates to her being "pimped?" I wonder what feminists would think of that.

This is a political campaign and it was a chess move. Just like Biden was a chess move. Obama knew foreign policy was going to kill him. So he picked Biden. McCain is making a play to capture those disenfranchised Clinton voters and Obama played right into the GOP's hands this morning with his obviously uninformed response that insulted women and small-town America.

Remember the GOP only has to play defense. They had enough votes in 2000 and 2004 to win the White House. All they have to do is stop the bleeding. It's much harder to flip a state than it is to defend it. Only 4 states flipped in 2004 and 3 of those flipped to the GOP.
By making this move the GOP changed the dynamic of the race. And it was to their benefit to shake it up. Now there is some uncertainty on how the votes are going to line up and where. It was a strategic move. Obviously. So was the Biden pick. Everything these two candidates do is strategic. Everything they do and say has been carefully thought out in advance. Its a chess game.

I was going to do a write up about this today, undoing the knots that Chicago political ties have tied.

Let's just put it this way, Obama is not the only person on that ticket with ties to Rezko.

They had enough in 2004.

In 2000, they had a little help.

Investigation?

Hmmm

Actually,that`s now a neo-con requirement,at the very least.Like in the mafia,you`re not trusted until you`re dirty.This way,you won`t tend to rat out your mates.

Thadius she might very well welcome the investigation, but do we welcome the investigation. Why should the American public vote for a ticket that might contain ,in the person of the V.P. candidate, someone dogged by abuse of power issues. Is this the mindset McCain should be exhibiting, after 8 years of the heavy-handed Bush administration is McCain not promising us nothing more than same old same old.

I do not welcome the investigation.

It will distract us from the debate we need to have.

I think the wisdom of her pick is still up in the air.

Sanity and Thadius the difference is Obama was selected by the primary process,in other words he was vetted by that prtion of the electorate that is putting him forth as a candidate. They had their chance to find fault with Obama ....and selected him despite these questions
With McCain this is soley his and his teams selection, and a window into what he considers important. Now following as this does after the abuse of power issues at the Justice Dept, in my mind anyway ,is both troubling and telling of the mind-set of arrogance and disdain for the american public.

Like I said in the other thread, this will really shake out during the VP debates. One one side, the young, inexpereinced, near total neophyte... on the other... Joe Biden, 25+ year veteran of politics.

I'm sure we'll learn a lot.

At least Cheany didn't try to nominate himself for the job again. Then again, maybe Dick is planning on using her as a puppet.

Say, isn't it McCain's Birthday today? Happy b-day, John McCain! What is he, It must make him feel good to think, that when his father had reached his age, he'd been dead for four years.

Bipolar, a 25 year veteran of politics?
You know, that's the problem in Washington, there's too many people there with too much "experience."
I'm all in favor of term limits.
The congress or senate should be service to your country not a "career!"
And I have to laugh when  people say "foreign policy experience."
Ninety percent of that is deciding  how big of a check to cut in "foreign aid!"
That stuff needs to end too!

Like Obama and Biden are squeeky clean? Lets be honest here....none of these people on either ticket is 100% clean. They are all politicians. Everyone has skeletons in their closets.

Yes McCain has the Keating scandal in his past. But Biden has plagiarism in his past as well as an album full of dirty and very stupid comments. Obama has connections to some very shady people including one involved in a real estate scam and another involved with a radical left-wing militant group.

They are politicians. This seems to be the norm. So normal that you suspect people who appear to be clean to be hiding something.

I'll tell you what a feminist thinks about it: He's right. She's allowing herself to be used for political purposes in exchange for money and prestige. As far as politics go, that is being pimped. You can say they're just "playing politics" or that it's a calculated "chess game", and you'd be correct, but that doesn't make it anymore legitimate from a moral or ethical standpoint.

I will no longer respect any women who vote republican due to this pick.

In an interview just a month ago, she dissed the job, saying it didn’t seem “productive.”

In fact, she said she didn’t know what the vice president does.

Larry Kudlow of CNBC’s “Kudlow & Co.” asked her about the possibility of becoming McCain's ticket mate.
Palin replied: “As for that VP talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day? I’m used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that VP slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we’re trying to accomplish up here for the rest of the U.S., before I can even start addressing that question.”

Now tell me the truth....did you ask this question when John Kerry was running? I mean isnt truth that that is all Kerry did? He served in Vietnam and made sure we all knew that fact. And married a rich girl.

This is why I look at plans and directions.

And there`s clear choices and different directions here.

Are we going to let the superficial influence those choices?

The cons are rapped up in "qualification",like being in the Senate forever was a qualification.

If time in was a qualification,McCain would win that one hands down.

But that`s the bad thing about McCain, lol, not a good thing.

That`s McCain`s liability,as we will see Obama point out.
