I have a friend that everything she ate just went right through her. She nearly died before they diagnosed celiac sprue (sp?), a wheat allergy. Try eliminating wheat (which means MOST prepared foods) and see what happens.

you don't have to live this way!
Don't listen to any advice except seeing your doctor and/or a gastroenterologist and a registered dietitian who sees their patients.  There ARE prescription drugs, [bile sequestrants] supplements and diets to help.

The problem is, many of us have seen doctors... in my case... hundreds of them.  For one reason or another, they don't always catch things or care.  They have tried to figure out my problems in digestion and such for well over thrity years and seriously for the last twenty.  Still I am left with over the counter medication to treat symptoms and no answers.  If it is a strange or rare disease... that is what I will have.  Even newer medications will mess me up, so that is a trial and error thing that most often makes me worse rather than better and I am afraid to try them after a while.  I have only once had a doctor figure something out and I did the work and found the rest.  It may be the same with this and hearing what people say here, helps me put two and two together and find more to research.  It is always best to go to the doctor's, but when they are stuck, it is good to work on your own behalf and do the research.

Check into celiac disease. Researchers are finding out that it is very underdiagnosed. It can have many effects on the digestive tract, joints, muscles, and other body systems. It has also been linked to anxiety and depression. Lactose intolerance and celiac together can debilitate someone - and the doctors usually don't have a clue.

I had my gall bladder removed about 6 years ago, and have had similar issues before and after, although they improved dramatically after the surgery.  I had a lot of acid reflex before, and only have sporadic incidences since, and no longer take medication for that.  I'm still very careful about what I eat and drink, and avoid things like too much spicy food, dairy, etc. I also have IBS which is affected by these things as well, although that seems to be more stress-induced in my case.

Doesn't Celiac Disease come with low iron?  I am  searching my faulty data bank here..lol  I don't have anxiety or depression at all.  We thought I might be lactose intolerant, but milk makes me feel much better.

Since I had my gall bladder removed about 2 years ago I have been suffering with just about anything I eat (dairy products, spicy food, caffeine- related products)..It seems as soon as I eat any of these products I have to rush to the bathroom and I LIVE on pepto for upset stomach, diarrhea or heart burn which I never had a day in my life..is this common? Should avoiding these foods help? Thanks.

i had mine out almost 6 years ago...and still have these issues....i have seen numerous doctors and the gastro tells me its IBS with diarrhea, nothing he can do...my GYN says he has seen this before and it can go on for years....*shrug* the only way i have controlled it is by eating smaller amounts regularly...i have very few issues if i snack in the mornings...crackers and such over the course of several hours....i am worse if i eat salads and fruits....and i live on imodium for the really bad days...

good luck and feel free to msg me if you want to talk or have questions!

While the body can function normally without a gallbladder, this accessory organ of digestion is important to the proper digestion of fats. The function of the gall bladder is to concentrate and storing bile . Bile is needed to digest foods.
The cystic duct drains the gallbladder , and the common bile duct is the main duct draining into the duodenum. Together, these ducts form part of the biliary system .
The biliary system creates, transports, stores, and releases bile into the duodenum to help in digestion .
The biliary system includes the gallbladder, bile ducts inside the liver , and bile ducts outside the liver.
So in other words, you need a gallbladder to have food digested properly, but its not necessary.
What the liver cannot help with in the absence of a gallbladder, is left to the duodenum, small and large intestine to absorb before it exists the body.
Too much of a good or bad thing is just that.

My advice would be to see a nutritionist who can help with extra needed enzymes (taken orally) to properly digest food.  Continuing to take immodium and pepto and other such stuff is just a big band-aid.  (It would be quite like taking exlax your entire life to have a movement and never allowing your body to do its own thing.)

The described symptoms can be a side effect and others are quite right, it is not always discussed between primary care physician and patient.  It seems the better alternative of gall stones and continued severe abdominal pain related to digestion of spicy or fatty foods is removing the gall bladder by which ever route is used.

Have you considered lactose intolerance? Do you have milk in your coffee? Also it's amazing what foods contain milk and milk extract: some dark chocolates; some beers particularly lagers; some sausages and even some crisps.

That said, I've never had my prostate problems, nor am I a qualified nutritionist or doctor. Personally I would see a doctor if I was in your position.

I was apparently born without a gallbladder since they never could find it on ultrasound.  Therefore, all of my bile dumps straight into the small intestine....which means that anything fatty gets dumped right into the toilet....since bile emulsifies fat and speeds up digestion.  I tried taking a fiber supplement but kept getting constipated because I don't drink enough water.  I try to avoid foods that are greasy or rich and take 2 Imodium per week on average, usually when dining out because I'm not really avoiding greasy food then (ha ha).  Also, if I haven't been eating regularly (which I tend not to do) and then eat something, it doesn't stay in very long.  I've noticed that milk will do it to me but not cheese.  I can eat spicy food without any problem.  Of course, I could have IBS also....but I figure why spend money on a specialist and prescription drugs when over-the-counter pills seem to be doing the trick?
