Thank you very much!

I did misunderstand to some extent and did think you might have been endorsing arranged marriages. I am on the fence on the issue myself. Should the best interests of the individuals be considered above other family/political interests and the selection was done by competent, successful couples, I think it could actually work out well. Unfortunately, this is not at all how it is practiced.

I agree that, in general, people do not work hard enough to maintain what is actually a pretty good relationship. It seems easier to bail until the real costs on the other side start accumulating. Financial, emotional, and social ramifications of broken intimate relationships really take their toll. Except in the most blatant of circumstances, I tend to urge people to stick it out and work through it. Often, if they will persevere, there is so much good and a new level that emerges from difficult times. In the end, it is a leap of faith either way.

I deal with women daily who have lived the real life horror of abuse and rape. I have seen firsthand what the face of these terrible things looks like. I have lived it as well. I wanted to offer a place of safety and peace as much as I could here on CM for those who have been there, are there, and/or might be there one day. I hope there has been some healing here. If there has, that is all I could ask.

Just in case anyone is interested in looking at the statistics and the level of research and programs available, i have placed a link to a National Conference on Health and Domestic Violence that happened this year:

To all those that have suffered at the hands of another, you are never alone.

Thank you for this! And, no, just look at this thread. We all thought we were alone at one time. Now we know. Now we are free.
