RocketDoc -> "Old Ways" (10/24/2008 3:13:47 PM)

Hello to all!

I am new to collarme and hope that this is the apporpriate place for me to ask questions and learn as I develop as a Master.

One of the slave profiles I read today talks about looking for a Master who understands the "Old Ways".

I am curious, what is she referring to?

Thanks

RocketDoc

[sm=welcome.gif]Let me say this as soon as possible.  You may see some ugliness ahead.  It's election season, and apparently, not everyone's friendly enough to just answer the question minus some snark.  Good luck with your thread.

~meek and quiet sub, who NEVER has an urge to snark or get wise assed with anyone....ever!!!!![sm=liar.gif]

Probably referes to The Old Guard or The Leathermen.

CruelDesires -> RE: "Old Ways" (10/24/2008 3:50:08 PM)

Send her a C-mail and ask her?

C-D

SimplyMichael -> RE: "Old Ways" (10/24/2008 4:13:49 PM)

It means she is lost in a fantasy world.

The only way to find out is to ask her.  Though it's likely (not a certainty, mind you) that the "old ways" she has in mind never existed.

I'd recommend asking her Rocket. Then if you get back something specific, perhaps ask John (Rover) about it. He is definitely one of our resident experts on all things "Old Guardy" and "Leathermany". Although honestly, I doubt his credentials. How can anyone that hip be old enough to know about Old Guard?

AquaticSub -> RE: "Old Ways" (10/24/2008 5:24:25 PM)

I'd have to agree with the others - ask her. It could mean any number of things.

sailorfrank -> RE: "Old Ways" (10/24/2008 5:27:25 PM)

    Well of course the "Old ways" dont exist for the new BDSM?   But there are those that recall them,  as well as the proper steps to full training and that included proper behavior as well as manners.

Of course in Todays BDSM there isnt anything left of manners or discipline.  As it all just seems to be for the sex now?[8D]

sorry.. I just found it amusing that this was apparently your 69th post.....lol

leadership527 -> RE: "Old Ways" (10/24/2008 5:36:26 PM)

Hey hey now... not fair. I'm the resident vanilla guy so it can't be all about sex for me. I'm in it for the little black leather stars my girl puts on my forehead every time I've been especially domly.

You do have to admit that BDSM does add a certain zest and excitement to sex that you can't find elsewhere!  [:D]

  Perhaps, she's a 70 year old gay man that dresses in large amounts of leather?

"Old Guard" (if it even existed) was a gay male society.

Myster -> RE: "Old Ways" (10/24/2008 7:04:11 PM)

From what I've heard of "Old Guard" it came out of a memoir called the "Leatherman's Handbook" by Larry Townsend. A gay leather man was reminising about how good the "old times" were after all of his friends had passed during the height of the AIDS epidemic. The book did emphsize very scrict protocols and expectaions of behaviors on both sides of the whip. As far as what she wants no one can answer that question besides her. My best guess is that she wants that "high protocol" lifestyle. This is a whole other topic if you wish to post the question, but I will tell you right now it's very very diffucult to do. That and your neighbors might raise an eyebrow when they see your sub on all fours in the grocery store. LOL

Cheers,
Kevin

You clearly haven't READ the Leatherman's Handbook.  Considering they did golden showers in the back corner of bars and "cruised" for sex partners, it wasn't the holy roman empire some nitwits want to make it out to be.  It was horny perverted gay men, the same guys who brought you glory holes and bath houses for gods sakes.  I don't say that to make fun of them but simply to cast a less "rosey" light on a time that has been overly romanticised by people who want to puff up their all too empty chests about "the old ways"

KatyLied -> RE: "Old Ways" (10/24/2008 7:22:46 PM)

I've still not been able to get over young, hetero males calling themselves "Old Guard" Masters.  Pahlease.

This post reminds me of little old blue haired ladies bitching about the "youth" and their "new fangled ways of doing things... they have no manners, impolite little bastards that grope each other in public..." or as Cartman would say "those damn pot smoking hippies"

Myster -> RE: "Old Ways" (10/24/2008 7:29:57 PM)

@SimplyMichael

I'll admit I have not, and I wasn't trying to over-romantise it. I was simply trying to give the OP a refrence on where to go for the source if he so chooses. From what I've heard what came as an end result of the Old Guard was very very sad.

Cheers,
Kevin

It's just like with every other time period that had it's "Golden Age" and there will be people who will romanticize a particular event. There's some who wish for the 50's style of living where the man was the boss and the wife took care of the kids and house and didn't work outside the home. We have the aging hippies who go on and on about how great the sixties were with the free love, flower power  and the whole "tune in, turn on and tune out" mindset. I chalk it up to human nature that we long for the past yet we forget that each era had it's bad side and it actually wasn't as great as we recall!
