ToFindYou07 -> i have... (a medical question) (11/18/2008 12:13:56 AM)

i have a yeast infection...

and i feel like i'm dying.

i'm so uncomfortable, and i smell weird, and i can hardly sleep.

i have the yeast infection at home treatment like my doctor suggested, but it's killing me in the mean time.  i can't sleep at night, it kills me to apply the ointment to the outside like i need to, and to urinate is like... the fires of hell have set my vagina on fire.   as a result, i'm sure i'm not drinking enough liquids, in order to make going to the bathroom less frequent.  yet, it seems like i pee more than i ever have, anyway...

what can i do to make my yeast infection easier to cope with?

I heard that filling (non-used but with the tampon removed) tampon applicators with yogurt and freezing them helps. You put the applicator in the position it would be to push in the tampon so that when it's frozen you can push the frozen yogurt up inside. Supposedly it's both good for the infection and helps the burning.

i already have my little treatment stuff that i have to do that with... i'm just talking about more external things, to get comfortable... to be able to sleep... to be able to pee without nearly screaming in terrible pain...

those kinds of things...

Contact your doctor again and ask for Diflucan, its a 1 dose pill that usually will clear an infection in 2-3 days.  As to the over the counter stuff, if it has benzocaine in it, it should help the burning, unless of course you have a sensitivity to it, in which case it can make it that much worse.
But Diflucan is the fastest treatment I am aware of, and most effective.  If its persistent and not clearing at all, I would still suggest contacting her/him again as it may be more than yeast.

what do i do in the mean time while i'm waiting for it to go away?

do you really just have to bite your tongue and wait for it to go away?

hi

sounds like you have a very bad yeast infection and will probably need more than one treatment of the over the counter stuff.  call your Dr back and ask for diflucan as rosegandin suggested.

other than that, the creme you have in the pack, and yogurt, which doesnt need to be frozen and can be spread topically as well to help with the itching,  only time can help.  i never leave any Dr's office with a prescription for antibiotics without one for diflucan too.

good luck to you

That's what I meant as well. The frozen yogurt is supposed to be soothing as well as helpful in the healing process.

Tazzygirl, good link to some good information!! Thank You! I see that what I was going  to suggest, a vinegar douche is listed in that link. It stops the itching right away.

The violet ointment it suggests is what we used to put in kids mouths for thrush, which is another form of yeast infections.  it works well.

Take your medicine and go watch a movie...try to take your mind off it.

Plain yogurt, scoop some up with your fingers and smear it all over your pink bits. You may need to wear panties with a pad, or lay on a towel on your back with your knees up. The yogurt cools the hot, soothes the itch and helps rebalance things. I have also used one of those (just woke up and having trouble describing this) meat injectors without the needle, fill the syringe with yogurt and apply it inside. Be warned, it WILL be a bit messy but it really does help.

Monistat makes 'cooling wipes' but they've never seemed to do much for me.

RainydayNE -> RE: i have... (a medical question) (11/18/2008 4:25:54 AM)

i've never tried it frozen but regular yogurt definitely works. it's cheap, works fast, and helps get rid of discomfort. i tend to get them with hormone fluctuations along the cycle or when taking/stopping medications
they suck big time =p
just don't taste it before you put it on =p it's too weird haha
curiosity sickened the cat =p

teensub -> RE: i have... (a medical question) (11/18/2008 4:48:32 AM)

You should drink more, as it will dilute your pee, so it shouldnt sting so much.

RainydayNE -> RE: i have... (a medical question) (11/18/2008 6:08:55 AM)

yagh to clarify, i mean dont taste THE YOGURT before you put it on =p
could potentially be taken the wrong way =p hahaha

so, i managed to get SOME sleep... though i woke up at 6am.  i went back to bed shortly there after, and managed a few more hours, but it's awfully tough when you're so uncomfortable.

the only solution i've found is to pee in the shower... that way the water rinses away all of it before it has a chance to burn too much...

i can't even fathom yogurt anywhere on my body, or even in my kitchen... it has that weird bitter taste that, to me, is very unpleasant.  but at this point, i'm going to do whatever i have to, to get this stupid thing to go away.

i've been trying to send my boyfriend to the store for me, but he's being uncooperative.  it's because he's not the one with the yeast infection.  when he had a cold, and then i had a cold right after, he came over to bring me all sorts of stuff to get over it.

it's just really uncomfortable to walk around, and such, with a fire in my pink parts... then i get too focused and all i can think about is getting home to get back in bed...

i don't know HOW i did hours of walking around the zoo on Saturday.

so, apparently yogurt is the answer, no matter how unpleasant i might think it to be.  [:'(]

any other advice?

IAMChristine -> RE: i have... (a medical question) (11/18/2008 1:47:39 PM)

yogurt is more unpleasant than what you're going through?  [8|]

maybe i just need more coffee.

DavanKael -> RE: i have... (a medical question) (11/18/2008 1:54:49 PM)

I'm hoping a doctor diagnosed this thing or, if not, go immediately to the doctor and make sure that's what it is.  The most common vaginal infection is bacterial vaginosis, not a yeast infection, though the 2 can sometimes manifest similarly though they are treated differently.
Additionally, sometimes, some treatments irritate the yeast and aren't the best compound with which to treat.  For example (doing this off the top of my head and not a doctor here), some otc remedies have miconazole while others have ticonazole, and if one is causing the burning, try one with a different compound.
Several people mentioned diflucan.  Your doctor, if he or she is at all merciful, should give you a couple of doses in case one isn't enough.  That should work pretty quickly.
Acidophilus (The stuff in the yogurt) can be taken orally in pill form and some people think it helps.
Good luck,
  Davan

Sinimint -> RE: i have... (a medical question) (11/18/2008 4:10:38 PM)

Also, try a soothing shallow bath with a half cup of apple cider vinegar - this will really help.  Apple cider vinegar has a neutralizing effect on the vagina - it sounds as though it will sting, but it wont.  I also drink 5ml in a glass of water each morning.

As the yeast infection grows with sugar and more yeast, you should stop eating bread that has yeast - for a few weeks, eat less sugar and take acidophilus tablets.  Garlic oil tablets are also good for this.

Just remember, the more breads, or pizza base etc that you eat, the more the yeast infection will multiply.  The same goes for sugary foods, as the yeast multiplies with this also.  Believe me, I had this problem for years, until I tried the yeast free diet.  Now I have no problems at all.

Good luck.....
