Having spent the last 3 days sharing my body with this particularly sadistic flu bug I'd like to know what makes you feel better when you're feeling under the weather. I'm not talking meds (nothing would stay down anyway), but more...comfort measures. Anything make you feel better or more comfortable while you're riding out the storm?

If I'm feverish nothing but sleep works for me.

If I can stand it, I'll have the tv/or radio on for background noise or if I can sit up and the light doesn't hurt my eyes, a good book, wrapped up in the most comfortable blanket I can find.

Something to knock me out until I am better. My bed, a dark bedroom, and unconciousness.

Erin, I am sorry you are not feeling well. I just got over a virus from hell.

That's what I'm finally able to do today. Up til now there has just been no comfortable position and not a thing I could put in my mouth that would stay down. Not even the ice chips I tried. The only thing I have found comforting is soaking in the tub...which I have done at least 20 times in the last three days.

Oh how I have wished for unconciousness!!! If I could have gotten meds to stay down I would have done exactly that. Poor Sir has been such a Godsend too. He has gone to great lengths to try to make me feel better...and I haven't exactly been the nicest person to be around the last few days. As soon as I'm feeling more myself that man deserves lots of extra gobbles...lol.

Aww Erin I'm sorry you (and LeeAnn, too!) have both been having  a rough time of it.

I had the throat infection from hell in December.  Tea, a blanket, my big chair and my TV were my friends, and on particularly bad days, Vicadin to put me out of my misery.

I hope you're feeling better soon!

I have yet to get a doctor to prescribe me Vicadin. There is a standup comic that does a bit about a mixture of Vicadin and a Bahama Mama that left me crying laughing the first time I heard it. And.....curious in a very naughty way.

I do realize that a person has to actually have a problem and GO TO a doctor to get the prescription. Which is probably why I will not satisfy my naughty curiousity for a very long time, if ever.

I normally love coffee, but when I'm sick, all I want is tea with honey.  I know that doesn't help you much, Erin, in your current state....  Sometimes ginger ale will stay down when nothing else will?

Hope you feel better soon!

OMG you are so right. I LOVE my morning coffee...but not right now. I made a pot for Sir this morning and thought I'd try a cup. One sip and I realized it was a really bad idea. I have managed to keep down a couple of cups of tea today though and I have been sipping some ginger ale. Mom's tried and true remedies. Thanks!

Moms always know best

Glad you're keeping some liquids down....you don't want to get dehydrated.

Ginger ale. Ginger is a well known anti nausea treatment.
Once you're feeling better - Jewish Penicillin! Aka homemade chicken soup with matzo balls.
My teen had this last week, couldn't eat, low grade fever, dizziness. Ginger ale and chicken soup and the occasional cracker was it for four days. Didn't sleep well and was just miserable and exhausted. A week later and his appetite has just come back to normal the last couple of days.

Because I tend to become very dehydrated  I keep anti nausea suppositories on hand  to ensure I will be able  maintain fluid consumption which was recommended by a doctor

Erin,
Have you eaten any peanut products lately?  I think a lot of people that think they had a bout of the flu may have had salmonella poisoning.  Here's the list of products recalled so far:
http://www.fda.gov/opacom/7alerts.html

I hope you feel better soon.

Good morning!
Oh, I do so hope you feel better. It is true, unconsciousness is best in a deep, dark, room. And most people forget the one thng that I always do when I am sick and I mean like sick as in "Please just let me die" sick.....Turn off the ringer on the phone!!! Nothing more irritating than hearing the phone ring and ring and ring until the voicemail kicks in. Good luck!
Love,
Zechriel

Nothing truly helps...I hope your feeling much better soon.

There is a new virus going round and it is going around at my
place of employment. I was sick with it last week and it
took me a week until I really started to feel better.

for me..cotton comfort clothes and blankets. The cotton fabric keeps the cold sweats from being unbearable. A soft cotton sweatsuit, an old soft bathrobe, and a cotton comforter. Hot tea if you can keep it down. And the knowledge that this will be over in a day or two.

A lot of times commercial chicken noodle soup will stay down when nothing else does, because of the high salt content. Salt also inhibits the gag reflex, which helps you get past the first trial of swallowing it!   I'll sip at it all day - tiny sips, re-nuking when necessary.  Hope you're feeling better soon - if you have what everyone else does, it's relatively quick.  BUT, if your throat starts hurting after everything else starts to feel better ... go to the doc and get checked for Strep.  It's epidemic right now.

In addition to the other fluids listed here I get some Gatorade or other sports drink to help with the dehydration.  Also some jello and pudding packs in various flavors are easy to digest.
