That is such bad advice Aileen. It has to be at least 3 shots to have an effect!

I have yet to get a doctor to prescribe me Vicadin. There is a standup comic that does a bit about a mixture of Vicadin and a Bahama Mama that left me crying laughing the first time I heard it. And.....curious in a very naughty way.

I do realize that a person has to actually have a problem and GO TO a doctor to get the prescription. Which is probably why I will not satisfy my naughty curiousity for a very long time, if ever.

I only had vicadin for the first time last year when I covered one of my hands in 2nd degree burns.  I had it again after I fell down some stairs and wiped out both ankles (yes, I am accident prone!).  I saved some, so when I'm really sick or in a lot of pain for some reason, I can take one.  I makes me not care and just fall asleep.  When I was in Canada with a tooth ache I got Tylenol with Codeine and it made me really giggly and then the lights went out.

I hope you both are feeling better.  Oh and stay away from dairy products when sick, and from sugar, too, if you can.

I had the virus from hell which knocked me low throughout December and just as I was getting over it my stepfather returned from Brazil with an even worse flu bug which saw our Christmas ruined as my mother spent Christmas eve (with me by her side) at the A & E Department of our local hospital, it has hung around like a barnacle on a whale's backside and I'm only now getting over that one. The doctor at the hospital told me that her advice was to dose up with several brandies daily with plenty of non-alcoholic liquids in between. I'm a tee-totaller so didn't and mine hung around, yet my mother took the doc's advice and hers was over/done with in less than ten days.

Get better soon.

There you go, Holls, you're feeling better already

No wonder in the good old golden days it was used as an anaesthetic   <------- only just found these... I usually keep my windows minimised past their usual format, so it cut the leftside off. Oh the fun I'm going to have!

It's actually Vicodin LaT, and that with a cup of hot tea with brandy is a godsend when you feel like hell.  Ummm, you don't always need to go to a doctor either.  I tended bar for a looooong time and there are lots of "armchair" physicians that used to be some of my favorite customers. Thank god that career is over, but it was fun while it lasted!

actually...this is recommended. The sports drinks have such a blast of potassium that they can be more harmful then helpful.

I am so sorry you are feeling bad.  For me, my blanket and a good book.  I am not very friendly when I am sick..so I prefer to just have silence..although..I want to be checked on...I hope you feel better soon.  My niece that lives with me just got diagnosed with the flu yesterday..I hope lysol really does kill those germs.

For me, tea with a little honey will stay down. I am sick as well, not the flu yet but its a damn nasty cold.
I have been loafing on the couch, with the electric blanket in the bedroom with a book, or the living room with my blanket and the computer and TV. Sudafed is tiny pills so they stay down, and pedilyte pops help too.

Feel better

Try taking a warm bath. I wouldn't suggest alcohol  because it might weaken your immune system.

I just got over a nasty flu a couple of days ago, and so did a friend of mine who loves on the other side of the country. There's definitely something going around!

I did a shot of Yukon Saturday night, and I can usually do 5 or 6, and I couldn't quit shivering, and the goosebumps wouldn't go away.  The next day, I got so sick and spent the whole night in the bathroom.  Today, I'm so weak I can't stand.  And now, I am being yelled at to get to the Dr for them to tell me to drink fluids and get rest... Grr...   But I just want to say to the OP, I feel for ya!  I am feeling the same way!

i find that peppermint oil applied to the temples, lymph node area just below and behind the ears, and the base of my throat are very soothing.  If i can, i will also suck a peppermint, a sweet one like LifeSavers.  It settles my stomach and diminishes the icky sensations.  Those fruit juice bars, particularly pomegranite and cherry, can feel good too.  Apart from that i'm with most of the other people on here.  Leave me alone in a dark bedroom with my blankets and i'll settle into healing.

Edited to add:  Hope you feel better soon.

Ok, so the bug hit me this week, missed 2 days of work because of it. :-(

I snuggled into bed with my electric blanket on low, and sipped on tea w/ honey, and gingerale w/ orange juice.  TV has been on 24hrs., although I have seen the beginning and end of lots of things, but I've been sleeping through the middles. All I've eaten for 2 days is chicken w/ stars soup, and soft-boiled eggs w/ toast.  I'm popping advil, antibiotics and a decongestant.

2 snuggly kitties hanging out with you doesn't hurt either...

I agree ginger ale is about the only thing that works for me sometimes a little gatorade as long as I just sip at it once in a while.  I ended up sick enough to land in the ER for the first time since I was little.  I'm only 19 now but still.  Just try to stay hydrated and hope to God that the bug is a quick one.

Being held, particularly curled up in a special one's lap, to be under covers with my head covered too, to have a cat or several stacked on or around me purring, etc.
I hope that you feel better soon!  :>

what makes me feel better is knowing everything is taken care of (kid, dinner, etc). Only then can i curl up in a cotton blanket (helps with the cold sweats) and sleep.

I normally love coffee, but when I'm sick, all I want is tea with honey.  I know that doesn't help you much, Erin, in your current state....  Sometimes ginger ale will stay down when nothing else will?

Hope you feel better soon!

I agree, having recently gone though keeping things down for a total difference reason, nothing and I mean nothing would stay in my stomach.  My sister got some gingerale which finally toned it done without the expected coming back up.  Better warm and/or even flat if your generating alot of gas. Or just get some ginger tea.

After 4 days of not being able to keep food down, and 3 with little to no fluids I was desperate. I am talking worshiping the porclien goddess every 10-15 minutes.

The reason was not a bug or flu, but my dr changing my antidepressants without stepping down to a total different type, then went out of the country. Saw him the day after he got back, he put me immediately back on them and the night med stopped it, the morning med also.  Overnight it stopped.  OMG I think tho slowly I ate and drank everything in site, that I knew my wore out tummy could handle.

In addition to the other fluids listed here I get some Gatorade or other sports drink to help with the dehydration.  Also some jello and pudding packs in various flavors are easy to digest.

Also along that line for people that dont like flavored drinks, find Smart Water, it tastes just like water but just has the electrolytes added. No flavor, no artifical flavoring, just water.

Canned chicken broth eventually stayed down.

thin potato soup just the potato and the water boiled in it was my moms cure and very very easy on the tummy.
