It's no skin off my nose. I don't see it as condescending at all. But everyone else can feel free to be offended, if you like.

Subbies is about as condescending as lowercasing the D in dom. Its just yet another term. I dont use it unless I am talking about someone I do not take seriously but not because it is condecending. It is just a silly sounding name, and I cant take someone seriously if they call themselves subbie, just like I cant take someone seriously who refers to themselves as any other cutesy sounding name. But thats just me.

Well the word subbie to me sounds like a junior high school word, but I figure that was just me. I don't use it in my everyday life, and would not insult a friend by calling them that. Actually if I did, they probably look at me and say, "Ocean, did you lose your mind?" :)

My blank: 'giggle-inducing'

XD

Gigglesgigglesgiggles for me when I see people using it.

And when I use it, I'm usually trying to be cutesy XD

Out of all the things some of us consent to being called its kind of silly that we are discussing if being called a subbie is condescending.Like anything else it would depend on who used it and the motive behind the word.

I personally don’t find it at all condescending. I’ve been known to use it, when I’m being cutesy. Then again I have a habit of adding, “ie” or “y” to the end of my good friends names to show affection towards them. I also like words that end in “ie” or “y.” It all leads to me using subbie in a friendly and playful manner with guys that submit to me.

I couldn't find the vote button, but I wanted to vote in favor of "subbie", although I know there are many people who don't like the term at all.  In the future, I'll try not to use it except in reference to myself, just in case.

Always makes me wonder--if we are sub-B's, where do sub-A's go?

The term "subbie" doesn't bother me. It kinda sounds endearing. The only possible conotation for "subbie" here would be someone who is submissive to another. Maybe slang in form, but certainly not meant to be derogitory, imho. But then, it doesn't bother me if someone calls me a "submissive" in place of a "slave", as both would be accurate discriptions.

LOL!  I was kinda wondering - 4 posts in the first page and nothing of substance contributed.

"subbie"  To me it's condescending but it's really more dumb than condescending.  Nothing to get offended by, but the user loses credibility with me.

It doesn't bother me in the least. I'm more interested in the content of what someone is saying than the use of unfortunate terms. I certainly wouldn't be interested in policing what terms or phrases people use.

So no, I don't think *we* could, let alone should.

I don't know about condescending, but it is diminutive (the "ie").  Some could interpret the diminutive as diminishing and THAT as condescending.

What is the politically correct alternative?   Perhaps "dominance challenged"?

I don't find it condecending, just overly familiar.  It's just one of those words I reserve for usage by people that know me and visa versa.  It's like a pet name or something - affectionate.  So for someone to assume to use it when it doesn't fit just isn't cool for me.  It's all in the context.
