My dear, between advanced trance breathing techniques and a couple of bottles of air, you should be able to more than survive travel by drum.

It's an invasion from Oz. Can we on this continent handle it?

3)  If you get pulled over for a driving infraction, always remember, US police very much love coffee.  If you offer to buy them a cup of coffee, they'll usually let you off.  Because ours is still such a male dominated society, and most police are men, having women buy them coffee is often taken as insulting, essentially making them feel effeminate.  The proper way to make this offer is to carefully fold the money and tuck it discreetly underneath your drivers license as you hand it to them.  In most US cities, coffee runs about $100.00.

Don't forget the donuts!

I only wish Miss Mags was still online and joining them. That would be the awesome Aussie Triple Threat.

Wanders, you arriving here is awesome and I would definitely like to catch up with you on one of your stops (or stop) here in Florida.

Hey I like being a lone wanderer damnit!!!!!

Angel, trust me, the barrel will only be uncomfortable for the first few minutes...and then it will be as if you are asleep.... just more ...... permanent.

The Columbus my friend lives in is Columbus, MI ....  whatever/wherever that is.  (I was talking to a friend, asking her to give me an idea of where different places in America are and she made a totally off the wall suggestion.... she thought I should look up a map of the US [8|] ..... I mean honestly why would I want to do that?)

reminds me on my own experience when I was planning a trip to america (planning in 2007 for summer 2008 as I wanted to invite someone for that trip for her 18th birthday)...I planned great ways from washington down to miami (I think that was the way)...until my ex made me aware about that over there in US seems to be not really a train service like here in the civilised world...so that destroyed my idea completely about travelling so much around over there and then at the end...that brat I was willing to invite didnt stick to our agreements we had and...so well...that made me drop that trip completely then...so bear in mind...that trains do not seem to be that common over there....(if I am correctly adviced about that topic...)

We have a great subway system (underground/above ground train) for traveling throughout the city but only a couple of train systems that take you to different parts of the US.

happypervert -> RE: Wanders is coming to America....watch out! (2/16/2009 12:49:27 PM)

From Niagra Falls, go to Montreal -- history with a French flavor to it. Skip Toronto -- my guess is that culturally it's not much different than Australia.

Near LA -- go to Las Vegas. From there you can make day trips to Death Valley, Zion Nat'l Park, or Hoover Dam, and if you go to Hoover Dam you can tell your friends you saw the Grand Canyon where it was filled with water.

In NYC -- go to McSoreley's Pub; eat dinner in Chinatown, then go across Canal Street to Little Italy for dessert.

Those are the highlights. Nothing else to see or do here.

to all different parts of the US or only to some parts of the US??? (sorry just asking as from germany and england I am used to be able to travel from one end of the country to the other end by train...)

sappatoti -> RE: Wanders is coming to America....watch out! (2/16/2009 1:48:32 PM)

The transcontinental passenger rail system (or intercity as it's sometimes called) is deplorable when compared against those systems in Europe and Asia. There are some consistent and reasonably scheduled and on-time routes, like what they have linking Washington DC to Boston, MA (and all points in-between). Other longer routes, though, may not be so consistently scheduled or routed.

Traveling the US by rail can be done though, if one takes the time to master Amtrak's web site or employ the services of a travel agent knowledgeable in Amtrak's service.

This post is, of course, my opinion and interpretation of a train trip I took that arrived at its destination about eighteen hours late.
