If you're Karl Rove or Dick Cheney, sure  .

Some people believe that religion (the Xstian kind, of course) should play a part in public affairs and government, and influence policy in America. The BBC documentary linked by Owner explains how the neo-con leaders promoted the "noble lie" of religion to manipulate the masses into joining the movement - very similarly, the Jihadists are making the same argument.

Is it possible that government could be considered a religion?

Yes.

All it takes to prove this is to see how many people on this board worship it.

Firm

I'm not a celebrity worshipper  , but your question is irrelevant. Again.

Please don't turn into another rulemylife.

I made the distinction quite clearly in at least one of my earlier posts that there are certainly shades of both.

My question and comments to kittin were whether or not she (and others) do not believe that there is any distinction between good and evil.

Firm

You know, I was really going to stay out of this, but since you insist on dragging me in.

You've spent half this thread claiming Kittin wasn't addressing your question even though she did provide answers.

Meanwhile, you spent half the other thread completely evading my question and the question of several others.

Now, I haven't been on since last night, so I don't know if you ever came up with an answer, but I will check.

Do feel free to join me.

I wouldn't say that, Mike, as long as there are witnesses... from amoungst my peers... (lots of them)

This thread is a laugh riot!  So many hypocritical ideologues lambasting other ideologues for being ideologues!

It’s them!  The others!  They’re the ones to blame!  Not us!

For fuck’s sake.

Evil is having knowledge whilst inflicting ignorance upon others. Evil is also choosing to remain ignorant for personal reasons of emotional comfort and certainty. Inasmuch as the neo-Cons knew the truth, but perverted it to suit their political purpose, I agree that what they did was evil. However, they may redeem themselves one way or another and attempt to redress the balance towards the path of good. In this, evil is transient, just like good.

hmmm ....

Here are some commonly accepted definitions of "evil":

  • morally objectionable behavior

  • morally bad or wrong; "evil purposes"; "an evil influence"; "evil deeds"

  • that which causes harm or destruction or misfortune; "the evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones"- Shakespeare

  • having the nature of vice

  • the quality of being morally wrong in principle or practice; "attempts to explain the origin of evil in the world"

  • It seems to me that "evil" can be defined only in the context of a moral code.  Is this an acceptable concept?

As a side issue, I'm curious ... you and many others seem to use the terms "neo-con" and "conservative" interchangeably.  Is this what you actually believe?  That they are both names for the same thing?

And if not ... what do you see as the differences between the two?

    Firm

Still, I recommend the BBC doc. It's very good. Did you take the time to see it?

Okay I'll bite...why would you feel the need for witnesses.....do you feel something untoward might ensue from such a meeting? I'm curious as to your concern.
