Once upon a time, some folks with good intentions had what seemed like a neat idea.  Then it all went wrong.

Yeah it all started to go wrong when the previous Administration gave a wink and a nod to such unregulated groups to take a hand in border security......just saying sometimes you reap what you sow.

I realize this may be a little over-broad for this subject, but... can someone explain to me again what the point of national borders is?

Two people connected with the Minutemen break the law on their own time....What does that have to do with the mission of the Minutemen??...Not a thing......but some are ready to say "see there, Bush lied, blah blah blah"...but those same people think nothing is wrong with thousands of people working for ACORN, filling out fraudulent voter registration forms in over a dozen states.  These people are not on their own time when they did this either.  I am not here to defend Bush, because truthfully, he disappointed me in some areas.  The border situation has been going on before he was even a governor.  There was no wink and nod, as he was fine with the masses violating the borders at will anyway.  From day one these invaders should have been repelled either by a beefed up border patrol or by our national guard.  Its really almost a no win deal at this point, because the Democrats want them here, in hopes for a legalization in the future, which would swell their voter roles, and Republicans are scared to death to face the issue for fear of alienation of the hispanic vote.  We as a nation do not need one more person coming here that will need a dime in government handouts.  We have enough freeloading citizens here now, and states like California have shown us what creating a freeloading class among the illegals will do for your budget.

I really don't understand any of what you said, as it relates to my question.

I think I can tangentially understand what you're saying here, but I think it'd be a lot clearer if you'd just come out and use the N-word or its equivalents. Unfortunately, it still doesn't answer my question:

What is the point of national borders, or for that matter, of nation-states?

My reply was not so much to your reply, but to the topic of this thread.  Secondly, no N word here, as every race in the country has freeloaders.  The point of a border should mean, this is our country, stay the f*** out.

Can you express what you mean by the word "our"?

I'm still seriously not understanding the fundamental assumption, here.

What does it mean to be a country? What does it mean for there to be a line in the sand that certain people are supposed to be on one side of, and certain other people are supposed to be on the other side of?

We as a Nation have no need for a bunch of armed vigilanties "patrolling" our border acting as a qausi legal arm of law enforcement. If you want to make a point about our porous borders all well and good...but he minutemen are not the answer.
By the way once you plug that border....don't bitch about a 5.00$ tomato or ear of corn...just pony up the money and thank god for the secure borders.Adios amigos....

It's a tax thing.  You could Google it, if you aren't clear.

It's a tax thing is one way to look at it......but of course one must ignore the multitudes working under false SSN's who will never take a dime out of that system. That knife cuts both ways Rich.

I would rather pay $5 for a tomato than see my taxes raised to pay for the schooling, housing, healthcare, jailing of illegals, as well as the feel good programs that would need to be funded if they are legalized and swell the voter roles.  A $5 tomato sounds like a bargain to me.

Till you actually have to pay that 5.00....all produce goes up...all things that are made using produce go up....not a pretty picture Joe....and it doesn't sound like you have thought it all the way through.Easy to make illegals the scapegoats....not so easy to find a workable solution.Certainly nothing you nor the Minutemen have suggested would qualify as workable...or well thought out.

They delineate jurisdictions. The same as the point of state borders, county borders, city borders, district borders.

Not sure what that has to do with some loonie who is too crazy even for a gang of loony vigilantes going off on a robbery spree.

I have thought it through mike.  Illegals cost California $11 billion a year for prisons, housing, health, and education.  Thats half of the state budget shortfall.  Thanks to NAFTA, buying a tomato in an American supermarket is no guarantee that it was made in America.  Alot of our food is imported anyway.  But just like NAFTA freed up the free market to decide where tomatoes can be raised most efficiently, it would do the same to make sure that they never actually cost $5.  I am not making illegals the scapegoats.  The problem is the politicians who do not have the balls to seal the border.  The Minutemen are just a group of people who are fed up with inaction by the government.  Think of them what you wish.
