This is true, Monkey but following that line of logic, we all have pee holes so why not urinate in public too.

Pfft people do.  Men more.  I'd rather see breastfeeding any day than some guy standing by his car at the side of the road just because he can't wait until the service station.

But then, comparing urinating to breast feeding is pretty moot.

the.dark.

Never said they didn't pee in public but I disagree that the comparison is "moot". It was stated that because a woman has breasts she should breastfeed in public. I was just going w/that logic.

If you would eat in a toilet, I guess I can understand if you wouldn't have an issue with people breastfeeding in one.  Me?  I wouldn't eat in the toilet - not even suck on chewing gum.  Would you eat?

Actually, as bad as it sounds, I have. But I was a youngin' and didn't want my food to get cold. But then I was the one in my family who angled mirrors and left the door open so I could watch TV while in there, too.

Ahh the silliness of youth.

I was in a Target and asked where I could breast feed my baby. They sent me into the bathroom with a chair. Thats the U.S. for ya!

You're comparing apples and oranges, a baby being hungry and being fed in public and feeding a baby is normal  and it's what breasts are for,, is not even the same thing nor close enough to relate to we have pee holes and they're naturally so why not urinate in public too.

You're not contaminating any one elses space by feeding your baby from a tit covered up with a privacy blanket There's also groups and laws in place in certain countries that support the right to breast feed. You are however contaminating public spaces by pissing on anything you feel like, and there is not and I doubt there ever will be laws protecting the right to do so.

Peeing, like pooping or sneezing isn't hygienic.  It causes disease - or spreads it.
Breast feeding is totally different.
Both might be natural, but to compare the two is pushing it a bit.  The results are vastly seperate.

It's only a nipple after all.  We are faced with uglier hairdoes every day.

You were expecting perhaps a lounge? It's a store, not a nursery.

29 years ago I breastfed my daughter in our home, in restaurants, or where have you. I never breastfed to make another uncomfortable, since it was very easy to wear clothing that would cover any sign of me breastfeeding. My hungry daughter could have cared less where she was fed. Yes I even have sat in McDonalds and breastfed way back when. I find it insulting to a woman who wants to breastfeed to be told not too, but those same men would pay to enter a strip joint.

I think this is all a symptom of a much larger issue. As we as a society go on and on about what is "our right" to do we no longer think about what we should do. Women went from calf-length, modest dresses to skirts that don't even cover their pubes in less than 50 years. And why? Because they have a "right" to look like a skank. Sure, they can look how they want, but when I stare at some chick ass that's hanging out, I'm the bad guy....right.

It didn't stop with clothing, either. Any display was 'fine' because it was a person's 'right.' To hell with anything remotely resembling common decency. That's long dead. Well, it's long dead until you're one of the afore-mentioned skanks who thinks a man should remain 'decent' when faced with a woman whose bits are hanging out.

I think "decency" becomes relevant when a woman's breasts are considered items for sexual gratification only and/or the owner of said breasts is considered to be responsible for the reaction and behaviours of those who do.  It doesn't make sense to me.

Ahh but the OP's posted story specifically mentioned the UM kept pushing the blanket off.

Actually, urine is sterile. You're not contaminating anything unless you have an STD that is transmitted through bodily fluids.

Loki it's  a beautiful thing you propose to be for your wife, if you ever have a baby with her, And being married certainly does help, and we'd hopefully be married and stable before a baby entered our life, but Daddy would still have to work full time every day day in and day out, sept 2 days a week, which days off are NOT a guarantee  in hisl  line of work, in the past they've had him working 7 days a week. starting almost at the crack of dawn* ok that parts an exaggeration, he goes into work at 8, sometimes at 6 an* He would not be able to do what you propose.

And the world is going to hell in a hand basket yes.

were I ever to start a family, my submissive wife would be treated like a fucking queen if she were carrying or had given birth to my UM. She'd probably get annoyed by the attention, honestly. I'd be her protector, her waiter, her chaufer. Yes me, the uber-dominant, male-chauvanist asshole would be a fucking puppy dog.

Now many have said women don't have a choice. Maybe not. But that's society's doing. Women USED TO be married first. And their husbands could and SHOULD act the way I would if I were an expectant father. But when more and more assholes who shouldn't have been fathers to begin with started running from their responsibilities, things like breastfeeding in public became more and more of a necessity.

Like I said, it's all a symptom of a bigger problem. Unfortunately, I can't solve the problem. At least not for anyone who's not me or my loved ones.

No one said they were responsible for the reaction. But in the law there is a phrase called "reasonable expectation." I'm no expert, mind you, but the gist of the phrase means something like if you knew there would be a reasonable expection of, x, y, z then you are partly responsible.

Such as, if I picked up a gun and toyed with it without checking it first, it's a reasonable expectation that it's loaded and so if the gun goes off and hits someone, I should have known, whether I checked it or not.

In the case of breasts, women throughout time have known men only think one thing when they look at their chest. This isn't news. So, although nothing a man does is a woman's fault as it pertains to the subject matter, per se....she has a reasonable expectation to think she might be starred at or ogled. It's like that one comedian said "I'm sorry darlin' I was confused by the low cut top and the neon sign pointing at your tits, do I stare, do I not stare? Help me out here."

Loki
Don't get caught using the whole 'urine is sterile' myth.  It is whilst inside you.  If you have germs in your tract or the minute it hits air or skin or ground, it's not anymore.

There was a time when tender private things like this were done at home. A time when no one expected to see a nursing mother because her husband or family treated her like a queen and got anything she desired brought right to her bed side.

Is that the time when women went down the coal mines to push wagons and hack at the rock? These women frequently took their tops off and worked bare-breasted, the heat was such.

You have a really romanticised view of motherhood and of sex-relations. Those women you speak of that stayed at home 'like queens' were few and far between. Just like today.

If you don't like it... just look away. But in this world where naked women's bodies are used every day to sell absolutely anything in the most gratuitous of manners, you will understand that your attitude with regards breastfeeding  comes  across as bizarrely puritanistic.

on the few occasions where i had to nurse in public it was done very discreetly. i have no desire to expose myself. There are nursing shirts that make discretion a given. and blankets help too.

Nursing a child is the most natural thing there is.

I was expecting to be treated with some dignity. The cafeteria or an office would have been much better than the bathroom.

Well, in the line of work I'm entering, by the time I'd even consider reproduction a viable option, I'll have a position that lets me work pretty much when and where I want. The guy I idolize who spoke in my networking class works from work, works from home.....works at 8 am or 8 pm...basically whenever the hell he wants, so long as it gets done. And he makes mad money. Of course he pointed to his twin daughters to indicate where the mad money goes and why he's not 'rich.'

As one who's worked in a retail environment before, I can say those areas are usually employee-only areas. So what you were expecting is some kind of special dispensation just because you felt you deserved it.

Oh I've seen it done both ways, tastefully and not. I've seen the woman in the sweatshirt who just tucks the lil fella underneath and you'd never know. And I've seen the hoochie in the low-cut top who just whips it out. One I'm fine with, one disgusts me.....go figure.

In the puritan-esque history of this country, I strongly doubt this.
