Think there's a bit of gynephobia on there  ?

Does it have to be your baby or does any one's crying baby do it?

Since I no longer have to deal with my cycle, I don't have to put up with such silliness and prejudice.

Most definitely! It's the neanderthal mentality that thinks women should be isolated when they're on their period.

hey now, it says that in the Bible, so I know its true :P

((Couldnt resist))

Not being a Bible scholar myself ....where's this located? (Inquiring minds wanna know)

Let me check

Here it is :D

Leviticus 15:19 - 30:

19 " 'When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening.

20 " 'Anything she lies on during her period will be unclean, and anything she sits on will be unclean. 21 Whoever touches her bed must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 22 Whoever touches anything she sits on must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 23 Whether it is the bed or anything she was sitting on, when anyone touches it, he will be unclean till evening.

24 " 'If a man lies with her and her monthly flow touches him, he will be unclean for seven days; any bed he lies on will be unclean.

25 " 'When a woman has a discharge of blood for many days at a time other than her monthly period or has a discharge that continues beyond her period, she will be unclean as long as she has the discharge, just as in the days of her period. 26 Any bed she lies on while her discharge continues will be unclean, as is her bed during her monthly period, and anything she sits on will be unclean, as during her period. 27 Whoever touches them will be unclean; he must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening.

28 " 'When she is cleansed from her discharge, she must count off seven days, and after that she will be ceremonially clean. 29 On the eighth day she must take two doves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 30 The priest is to sacrifice one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. In this way he will make atonement for her before the LORD for the uncleanness of her discharge.

I think that this is some sort of variation on the concept of "Original Sin" My point, though I am loathe to admit that I have one is that a few centuries ago this was SOP for a woman on her period, obviously these rules changed, and rightly so.

We are dealing now with a similar concept, that somehow the act of feeding a child is unclean

OF course my views are biased in that I believe that the only good use of clothing is if it is cold out or you run out of sunscreen

Correct me if I'm wrong but any baby crying will set off the milk faucets.

Okay, I am late to this game, but in what way is menstrual blood like breast milk?  And who among us has had stain issues with blood once we got past the teen years?

Ladies, feed your kids in a dignified manner.  Babies need to EAT when they are hungry.  I wish that there was some nice clean place for you to do it, but mainly... I guess you'll have to hang out in your cars when you are not at home.   Personally, I am not offended by the sight of a baby chowing down, but truly, it is not necessary to strip to the waist to feed, so what's the problem?

imho what it boils down to is discretion on the part of the mom. Any woman who says she cannot cover up properly is either ill prepared or doesn't want to do so.

Nursing moms should dress for the inevitable...

some other fun bible quotes on the subject

Genesis 31:35

35 Rachel said to her father, "Don't be angry, my lord, that I cannot stand up in your presence; I'm having my period." So he searched but could not find the household gods.

---------

Isaiah 30:22

22 Then you will defile your idols overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold; you will throw them away like a menstrual cloth and say to them, "Away with you!"

----------

Ezekiel 36:17

17 "Son of man, when the people of Israel were living in their own land, they defiled it by their conduct and their actions. Their conduct was like a woman's monthly uncleanness in my sight.

And here we have a voice of reason. The key word - dignified. Don't dress like a hoochie and just flop it out. Act like you have some class rather than like the UM gives you a class-less license.

I don't know why, but that one made me laugh. Probably for the same reason as when my english teacher in high school said she wanted a little dog she could name "Spot" so she could stand at the back door and say "Out, damned Spot, out I say!" (Macbeth reference)
