If there is no record or proof I did something wrong, I don't tell them about it. If I was asked about my social networking online, I wouldn't tell them about everything I do online. Unless you use your full name and/or they really dig around, they aren't likely to find it. I have a very common name, and you can almost always count on people being lazy. Yes, even government employees don't want to spend an entire day on one applicant scouring the internet for social networking profiles.

The answer to this must always be "NO." Further, for an employer to ask for such information is just plain illegal. An prospective employer cannot even ask a prospective employee in a job interview if they are married or if they have children. This is the stuff of discrimination lawsuits.

You can send a letter to the U.S. Department of Records and request that they send you copies of everything they have on file with your full name. It might take them a while to get it back to you, but it's free--well, it's paid for with your tax dollars--and will give you some kind of idea what they have on you. In the 80s- there were no less then 86 databases. A letter or inquiry sent to a govt agency- even trivial- boom. You name is on a list. So is that in the release? When I worked at a plant- I was back up in Personnel. A dude would come in and demand to see his file. We happily pulled out and showed him his pretty and innocuous file. ...we sorta did not tell the worker that there were 2 files on him. 1 to show him, and 1to not show him.

Any corporation would ask similar things? Are you sure about that? I have put in applications for a lot of jobs in the last 10 years and I have never had anyone ask for passwords from my online accounts or clubs. It's none of their business. Oh and one of those jobs was for the City of Livonia and they did not even ask if I go online. Imagine that.

Google for FOIA or Freedom Of Information Act. As far as I know, you can't request a blanket "all records" but have to request it from each individual government agency who may have records on you. Keeping a second secret record, as you suggest, would be illegal under the FOIA (although some agencies have been known to do it anyway). Also, some records are not available through the FOIA, or they may be redacted before being released. The amount of such records that are unavailable has increased dramatically under the Bush regime.

Quite honestly...as long as I do the job I was hired to do...they don't give a flying fuck what kind of websites I visit, or what kind of activities I partake in...unless I am waving a gun at civilians and causing general mayhem [8D] People are so terrified at the thought of someone KNOWING about them...geesh, get over it already...nine times out of ten, that one person you are trying so hard to hide from...already knows more about you than you do.
